Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Gwalior children sit maths papers set by quite different bodies. Many write the MP Board's High School and Higher Secondary papers, many more are on CBSE, some follow ICSE and ISC, and a small number take IB or Cambridge IGCSE. The city adds its own variable: a home in the market lanes of Lashkar, below the fort, is a different visit from a flat near Gwalior Junction or a house on a Thatipur colony road. Tell NXTutors the syllabus, the class and the locality, and we suggest two or three maths tutors who suit all three. You see what each one charges before any meeting, and the first lesson with the tutor you pick is a free demo.
Two named authors stand behind this page. Ajay Vatsyayan writes on IB, IGCSE and ISC maths, and Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 10 maths for CBSE and ICSE. Our first question to any Gwalior family is the same: who marks the final paper? The answer decides the textbook, the layout of a good solution and the kind of practice that turns into marks, so it comes before any talk of tutors.
| Course | Examiner | Shape of the final assessment | Put this question to the tutor |
|---|---|---|---|
| MP Board, Classes 10 and 12 | Board of Secondary Education, Madhya Pradesh | Published by the board each session on mpbse.nic.in | Will you plan from this session's syllabus and marking scheme? |
| CBSE Class 10 | CBSE | Board paper out of 80; the school adds 20 | Should my child take Standard or Basic, and on what evidence? |
| CBSE Class 12 | CBSE | All 38 questions compulsory, 80 marks | When will calculus begin, and how much of each week will it take? |
| ICSE and ISC | CISCE | 80-mark written paper plus 20 marks of internal or project work | Are your notes written for my child's exam year? |
| IB Diploma, Cambridge IGCSE | IB; Cambridge | IB papers and an exploration; IGCSE at Core or Extended tier | Which course, level or tier have you taught most recently? |
The Board of Secondary Education, Madhya Pradesh (MPBSE) has its office at Shivaji Nagar in Bhopal. It conducts the High School Certificate examination after Class 10 and the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination after Class 12, and it now holds a second examination as well as the main one; the time-table for both appears on its website. For every subject from Class 9 to Class 12 the board posts the syllabus, the marking scheme and the project or practical work each session on the academics page of mpbse.nic.in. We do not reproduce an MP Board paper here. A tutor worth hiring will open that page with you and plan from what it says this year.
| Settle this | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The medium of the answers | A child who writes maths in Hindi should be taught and corrected in Hindi, with the textbook's own terms; an English-medium child needs the reverse. |
| The book used for practice | Exercises begin with the textbook the school issued; a guide built for another board trains the wrong layout. |
| This session's marking scheme | The board publishes it each year, so last year's photocopied notes may not match. |
| The plan after Class 10 | If Class 11 science or a later JEE attempt is likely, algebra and geometry need to be secure now, well beyond a pass. |
CBSE has kept the previous session's design. The written paper is worth 80 and the school awards the other 20. Fourteen NCERT chapters feed the 80 marks through seven units, and a Gwalior tutor should be able to tell you, within the first couple of lessons, which of them is leaking marks for your child.
| Unit | Board marks | Quick early test |
|---|---|---|
| Algebra (polynomials, two-variable linear equations, quadratics, progressions) | 20 | Turn two word problems into equations without solving them |
| Geometry (triangles, circles) | 15 | Write one short proof with a reason against each line |
| Trigonometry with heights and distances | 12 | Sketch the figure for a heights question before any ratio is chosen |
| Statistics and probability | 11 | Finish a grouped-data mean and check every column on the way |
| Mensuration | 10 | Find the surface of a combined solid with units carried through |
| Real numbers; coordinate geometry | 6 each | Five quick items done slowly and with zero slips |
On the day, the paper is lettered A to E. Section A holds twenty one-mark items, eighteen multiple-choice and two assertion–reason. Section B asks five questions worth two marks, C has six worth three, D has four long answers worth five, and E closes with three case-study questions worth four. No calculator is allowed, and π counts as 22/7 unless the question sets another value.
From 2026 a Class 10 student writes one compulsory main exam and may then take an optional second sitting to raise the score in as many as three subjects, maths among them. CBSE has not yet announced the 2027 dates, so follow cbse.gov.in rather than rumours. Our Class 10 maths preparation guide walks through the chapters, the board-year planner spreads the work over the months, and the Class 10 maths tutor page shows how we match for that year.
The two levels cover identical chapters for identical marks. About 54% of the Standard paper rests on remembering and understanding, against about 75% in Basic, so Standard far more often asks for an idea applied to an unseen problem. If maths in Class 11 could be on the cards, Standard keeps it open. The choice is locked at registration, so check the school's deadline and ask the tutor at the demo which level suits your child.
Class 11 lays the base for calculus, and a gap left there surfaces in the board year. The Class 12 maths tutor page sets out how we plan that year. In CBSE Class 12 every one of the 38 questions must be attempted for 80 marks, and calculus supplies 35 of them, so it earns the main slice of every week from the opening month. JEE Main rewards a different skill. In the 2026 pattern, Paper 1 set 75 questions for 300 marks; maths took 25 of them, 20 multiple-choice and 5 with a numerical answer, and each scored four for a correct response and lost one for a wrong one. NTA confirms the pattern every year on jeemain.nta.nic.in, so read the current bulletin before fixing a plan.
If your child already attends a coaching batch, the home hour should do what the batch cannot. One session can clear the sheet problems left unsolved; another can be a full board-style answer, timed and then marked line by line. Useful reading: the calculus and algebra guide for Class 12 and our topic-wise JEE maths plan.
Teachers for these four courses are scarcer in Gwalior than CBSE or MP Board teachers, so name the course in your first message; an online specialist can fill the gap.
Tutors in Gwalior mostly travel by two-wheeler or auto. The six localities below come from the old market side, the newer centre and the wide-road east. Every locality is listed on our Gwalior home tuition page.
Lashkar grew up south of the fort around Maharaj Bada, the square ringed by Sarafa Bazaar and Topi Bazaar, and many families live behind or above shops. Kampoo, also spelt Kampu, sits close by with houses, flats and small plots side by side. Parking is tight in both, so tell the tutor where a two-wheeler can stand and name a chowk or market gate to meet at. Evening shoppers fill the roads around the square, so a slot soon after school is the steadier choice.
City Centre is Gwalior's newer office and shopping hub, with flats in multistorey buildings, and Gwalior Junction and the inter-state bus stand are close at hand. Alkapuri, next door and joined to the rest of the city by New Collectorate Road, is mostly ready-to-move apartments. Expect a sign-in at the gate on the first visit: send the tutor's name to security and share the tower and flat number. Office traffic thickens on the main roads towards evening.
Thatipur is often called Gwalior's new town for its wide roads, and a main road splits it into two parts, with Morar at one end and Balwant Nagar at the other. The area is large, so give the colony name and a landmark, not just the word Thatipur. Darpan Colony, inside Thatipur, is mostly independent houses, so the tutor comes straight to the door. Plan around the evening crowd on the main road.
Keep your child's last marked test on the table and ask the tutor to teach this week's school chapter.
| Moment in the demo | A good sign | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| The opening | The tutor reads the marked work and asks your child to explain one wrong answer | A prepared lecture starts before the notebook is opened |
| A mistake appears | The tutor says whether it is a slip, a misread question or a missing idea | Every error gets the same remedy: do more sums |
| The working | Steps are set out the way your child's examiner, MP Board, CBSE, CISCE or IB, expects | Short cuts that would lose method marks |
| The middle | Your child solves a question alone while the tutor watches | Your child only copies from the tutor's page |
| The close | You hear what the next sessions cover and what homework will be marked | No plan beyond "we will see next time" |
If the fit is wrong, say so and we arrange a demo with the next tutor on your shortlist; changing tutor later is free as well. The demo class checklist for parents adds more questions.
At a shared table a tutor sees a dropped sign the instant it is written, which matters most for younger children and for geometry proofs. Online lessons earn their place when the right specialist lives on another side of the city, for IB or ISC courses with few local teachers, or on days when coaching finishes late. Some families settle on one home visit and one online lesson each week. Our home or online tutor article sets out the trade-offs.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor fixes their own rate. The course and class, the tutor's record with that course, the journey to your part of Gwalior at the hour you want and the number of lessons a week all shape it, and each fee is on your shortlist before the demo. The Gwalior home tuition fees article lists the questions worth asking about cost.
Five details do the job: the class; the course by its full name (MP Board, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE); your locality with a landmark; the days and hours you can offer; and a budget. We come back with two or three matched maths tutors and their fees, and you choose one for the free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (see how we check tutors). If no suitable tutor can reach your part of Gwalior at that hour, we suggest an online or mixed plan. NXTutors works from Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India; the national maths home tutor page shows how we match elsewhere.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor names a personal rate, and the whole shortlist with fees is in front of you before the demo.
Yes. We look for tutors who teach from the textbook your child's school issued, in Hindi or English as your child writes, and who plan from the syllabus and marking scheme MPBSE posts each session on mpbse.nic.in. We do not describe the MP Board paper itself, so check that official page.
Algebra, which carries 20 of the 80 board marks. Geometry follows with 15, trigonometry with 12, statistics and probability with 11 and mensuration with 10, while real numbers and coordinate geometry carry 6 each. The 2026-27 paper keeps last session's design, so recent CBSE sample papers suit timed practice.
Choose Standard if maths in Class 11 is a real possibility. Both levels test the same chapters for 80 marks, but roughly three-quarters of Basic rests on remembering and understanding, against roughly half of Standard, which asks for much more application. The school fixes the choice at registration, so ask about its deadline.
It can be, provided the tutor does a different job from the batch. A good home tutor clears the coaching problems left unsolved and keeps the Class 12 board paper on track, where calculus supplies 35 of the 80 marks and every long answer must show complete written working.
For the 2027 and 2028 exams CISCE sets one 80-mark paper of seven compulsory units, so the old choice between Sections B and C has gone. Calculus is worth 35 marks. Two projects add 20, each marked on format, content, findings and viva, so older revision books need careful checking.
Usually, by two-wheeler or auto. Parking around Maharaj Bada and in the inner lanes is limited, so tell the tutor where to leave a vehicle and name a chowk or market gate as the meeting point. The evening shopping crowd slows those roads, so a slot soon after school works better.
Specialists for IB, IGCSE and ISC are fewer than CBSE or MP Board teachers, so mention the course in your first message. If nobody suitable lives within reach of your locality, we suggest an online specialist, sometimes alongside a local tutor who checks the written practice during the week.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
