Tutoring in Gwalior: what to know
Gwalior falls into five zones on NXTutors, and each asks something different of a tutor. Lashkar, south of the fort, is a market district around Maharaj Bada where families often live above or behind shops and parking is tight. The City Centre side, with Alkapuri, Govindpuri and Mahalgaon, mixes apartment buildings with houses near Gwalior Junction. To the east, Thatipur's wide roads lead on to Morar and Gole Ka Mandir, mostly family houses. The north-east, around DD Nagar, Aditya Puram and Shatabdipuram, is plotted colonies on the way to the airport, and the old city of Hazira, Tansen Nagar, Birla Nagar and Vinay Nagar sits at the fort hill's eastern foot.
Most Gwalior tutors get about on a two-wheeler or by auto; the railway stations serve mainly as landmarks: Gwalior Junction on Racecourse Road for the centre and the east, Birlanagar Junction for the old city and the DD Nagar side. Racecourse Road, New Collectorate Road, Airport Road, Bhind Road and Morena Road carry the traffic that shapes a teaching week, and Lashkar's bazaar roads fill up in the evening. A tutor who keeps lessons inside one or two adjoining zones, and fixes the first visit of the day close to the end of school, spends less of the week on the road and more of it teaching.
Requests from Gwalior parents can name the MP Board, CBSE, ICSE or ISC; IB Diploma and IGCSE learners are usually reached online. MP Board syllabus, marking schemes and notices should always be checked on mpbse.nic.in. For every request, NXTutors builds a shortlist of two or three tutors in a fixed order, starting with anyone living close by, then tutors who already make that trip, then the zone, the wider city and online. The parent sees your fee before a free first demo and may later change tutor at no cost to them. Fees are yours to set. Joining is free, and the optional paid plans on /pricing add visibility, AI tools and more credits; none is a fee to apply for a tuition.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
1
Sign up with a one-time code
Sign in with a one-time code to your phone or email, then list what you teach: subjects, classes, boards such as the MP Board, CBSE or ICSE, and the Gwalior localities within your reach.
-
2
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Next, upload a government photo ID for review by our team, which must happen before any Verified badge shows. The check confirms identity alone; it is neither a police check nor a background check.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
Your profile shows families your boards and subjects, the areas you cover, from Lashkar to DD Nagar, and the fee you have set, so they can judge the fit before booking anything.
-
4
A family nearby sends a request
Say a parent in Alkapuri or Thatipur asks for a tutor. NXTutors puts forward two or three names, ordered by distance: people living closest, those already travelling there, the zone, the city, then online.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
Your fee is visible to the family before they book, the opening lesson costs them nothing, and a parent is asked to be home for that demo, giving you a look at the student and the route.

Teach at home, online or both
After that, teach at homes in your chosen localities, online for students across Madhya Pradesh and India, or both, for example a weekend visit in Morar with online classes during the week.
Boards you can teach in Gwalior
Gwalior families most often name the MP Board, CBSE, ICSE or ISC, and a smaller number want IB or IGCSE help, which tends to happen online. The state board, MPBSE, has its office at Shivaji Nagar in Bhopal; it conducts the HSC examination at Class 10 and the HSSC examination at Class 12, and each session it releases the syllabus and marking scheme for Classes 9 to 12. Take MP Board patterns and notices from mpbse.nic.in, CBSE papers and schemes from cbseacademic.nic.in, and ICSE or ISC rules from cisce.org.
MPBSE
Class 10 (High School Certificate); Class 12 (Higher Secondary School Certificate)
MPBSE holds both a main and a second examination for Classes 10 and 12, and posts time-tables and results on mpbse.nic.in. Its academics page carries the syllabus, marking scheme and project or practical work for every subject from Class 9 to 12. It has also notified an English Basic or English Standard choice, from Class 9 in 2026-27 and Class 10 in 2027-28.
Gwalior's CBSE students need a tutor who stays close to the NCERT textbook and uses the sample papers and marking schemes posted on cbseacademic.nic.in. Neat, complete working earns marks, so check homework the way an examiner would. If you teach on the City Centre side, expect apartment gates on a first visit and plan your arrival time.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
ICSE and ISC papers ask for long, structured answers across a broad syllabus, with English literature texts that need steady reading. Students gain from a tutor who sets timed written work each week and plans revision well before the exams. Use cisce.org for the current regulations, syllabuses and specimen papers before you plan a term.
IB
Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)
A Gwalior tutor with IB experience will usually teach Diploma students online, since lessons can reach them in any city. Internal assessment forms part of the final grade; you can guide a student through an Internal Assessment or the Extended Essay, but the work must stay the student's own. Subject guides and assessment rules are published on ibo.org.
For IGCSE, find out first whether the school follows Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and which tier the student is entered for. Lessons built on past papers, the official mark schemes and the meaning of each command word work well, and a good part of this work runs smoothly online for students in Gwalior or other cities.
