NEET (UG) in brief

The 2026 information bulletin from the NTA described NEET (UG) as a single afternoon sitting on paper, 2 pm to 5 pm, with 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions to finish in 180 minutes. Biology carried 90 of them, physics and chemistry 45 each, and the paper totalled 720 marks: four for a right answer, minus one for a wrong one. The syllabus, notified by the National Medical Commission, lists ten biology units following the NCERT books, and its physics experimental-skills unit names specific practicals. What does a home tutor add to an Indore coaching week?

Students living in hostels or rented rooms

Bhawarkua is a student district of hostels and rented rooms, and some NEET aspirants live there or nearby without their families. For them, NEET's two rhythms map neatly onto what is practical. Biology recall checks run well online from a hostel desk, two or three times a week. Physics needs a tutor watching written work, which can also be done online with a camera over the notebook or a writing tablet, or in person at a place agreed in advance. Parents arranging this from another city should share the coaching timetable, agree how progress will be reported, and sit in on the demo online.

When should the tutor come?

• Around coaching, not inside it. If classes are in Palasia, put the tutor's slot clearly before or after them.
• Physics on a free day. The long home session goes on a day without coaching, starting before office traffic builds on AB Road and at the Ring Road junctions.
• Biology on coaching evenings. Thirty minutes online after dinner costs nobody a journey.
• Mocks at the weekend. Sit the paper on Saturday from 2 pm to 5 pm, the 2026 exam's hours, and review it with the tutor on Sunday.

Take an illustrative Class 12 student in Saket Nagar, with coaching in Palasia on five afternoons and physics as the weak subject. For home visits, a few details help: in Geeta Bhawan's cooperative societies, register the tutor's name first; in the IDA schemes, add a map pin to the scheme and plot number; in Navlakha's older streets, name a landmark. Keep a table ready with the NCERT book, the coaching module and the last mock.

MP Board students and the language of the paper

Indore students reach NEET from CBSE, CISCE and MP Board schools. The Board of Secondary Education, Madhya Pradesh sets its own textbooks and papers, in Hindi or English medium; check its pattern and dates only on the board's own notices. NEET questions, though, track NCERT wording and figures, so whatever the board, the NCERT biology and chemistry books belong in the week.

• Booklet language. In 2026 candidates could choose English, a bilingual Hindi booklet, or English with a regional language. Decide in Class 11 and practise mocks in that language.
• Bridging terms. A Hindi-medium student moving to English benefits from a tutor who gives each biology term in both languages for the first months.
• Subjects. The 2026 bulletin required physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology, and English in Class 12; keep all four.

Building the attempt plan from mock data

With one mark lost per wrong answer, and ties in 2026 decided first by biology marks and later by the proportion of wrong to right answers, how a student attempts the paper matters nearly as much as what they know. After every mock, the tutor should note three figures for each subject:

1. Wrong answers, to see where guessing drains marks and to set a rule for leaving doubtful questions.
2. Blanks, to tell a knowledge gap from time running out.
3. Minutes spent, to check whether physics is eating into biology's time.

Class 11, Class 12 and a repeat year

The 2026 bulletin set a minimum age of 17 by 31 December of the exam year and no upper limit; confirm the current eligibility rules before planning a repeat year. A repeat year works well when it begins with last year's mock papers on the table: which subject lost the most, and whether the cause was knowledge, speed or careless guessing. The tutor targets that first, while biology revision continues on a steady cycle.

How to judge the demo

• Ask the biology tutor for a quick closed-book check on a chapter just read.
• Bring two stuck physics questions and watch who does the solving.
• Ask about the pattern and negative marking; the answer should be exact.
• Ask how the tutor will fit around the coaching timetable and review coaching tests.
• For MP Board students, ask how the tutor handles Hindi and English terms.
