Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Nagpur's students divide mainly between the Maharashtra State Board and the national boards, and CBSE is one of those national boards. That makes the first step of any match simple: we confirm the board, so a tutor used to SSC textbooks is not sent to a CBSE Class 10 student, or the other way round. The second step is geography. The metro's two lines cross at Sitabuldi and serve some neighbourhoods very well, while others are a two-wheeler ride from the nearest station. This page explains what CBSE asks of students from Class 6 to Class 12, what changed in the 2026-27 curriculum, which subjects parents most often want help with, and how tutors reach each zone. Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths and Aaditya Kashyap on CBSE and ICSE science.
The State Board sets the SSC examination at the end of Class 10 and the HSC at the end of Class 12, from the state textbooks schools follow, and state-board families here also tell us the medium of instruction so the tutor uses the same language as the class. CBSE works from NCERT textbooks, publishes a sample paper and marking scheme for each subject every year, and fills a large share of each secondary paper with questions that ask students to use an idea in a new setting.
| Moving from | Usually carries over | Usually needs work |
|---|---|---|
| State Board to CBSE | Most maths and science content | NCERT wording, case-based questions, step-marking, and new terms if the medium of instruction changes |
| CBSE to State Board | Concepts and problem-solving habits | The state textbooks' order and language, and the board's own past papers |
For anything about the State Board's pattern or timetable, rely only on the board's official notices.
| Stage | What the student faces | Typical tuition |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 6–8 | School exams; computational thinking and AI literacy enter existing subjects from 2026-27 | One or two sessions a week on maths habits, reading and science ideas |
| Class 9 | A school annual exam of 80 marks plus 20 internal; the optional Advanced papers | Two sessions, mostly maths and science |
| Class 10 | Board paper of 80 plus 20 internal per major subject; two board exams in the year | Two or three sessions, with a plan for every subject |
| Class 11 | School exams in stream subjects | A specialist per difficult subject |
| Class 12 | Board papers covering the full Class 12 syllabus, plus practical or internal marks | Specialists, sample papers under time |
Class 9 maths and science. All students now follow one common syllabus and sit one 80-mark paper. Separately, a student may choose an Advanced paper in maths, in science, in both or in neither. Each is 25 marks and one hour long, made up only of higher-order questions, and its marks do not count in the aggregate; scoring half or more earns a mention on the marksheet. The old Basic and Standard maths options are ending, with the 2026-27 Class 10 batch the last to use them.
A third language. Students in the transition batches study a compulsory third language, assessed within the school and without a board paper. Passing it is a condition of the Class 10 certificate.
Two board exams in Class 10. Every student sits the first. A student who passes may enter the second to try to raise marks in at most three subjects from science, maths, social science and the languages; anyone who missed three or more subjects in the first cannot take it. In each major subject, 33% is needed to pass.
Competency questions. About half of each secondary paper is case-based, source-based, integrated, data-based, situational or application questions. They reward reading carefully and applying an idea, which textbook exercises alone do not train.
Physics, chemistry and biology are each split into 70 marks of theory and 30 of practical work; Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, of which a student takes only one, has 80 marks of theory and 20 internal, as do accountancy, economics and business studies. CBSE says its senior papers will carry more questions framed in real situations. Many science students in Nagpur prepare for JEE or NEET at the same time; the board tutor's job is then complete, well-presented answers and practical records, not entrance speed. Our JEE home tutors in Nagpur and NEET home tutors in Nagpur pages cover the entrance side, and the Class 12 physics and Class 12 chemistry pages go into the board papers.
Science students in the senior classes tend to struggle most with physics and maths, and commerce students with accountancy. For reading between sessions, try Class 10 maths preparation and Class 10 science notes.
For maths and science up to Class 10, a tutor at the table is worth arranging: they see every step and every diagram, and catch the presentation errors CBSE marking punishes. In the well-connected central and Wardha Road zones that is usually straightforward. Online classes work well for senior specialists, for short doubt sessions near the board exams, and for families in the north or far south-east who want a particular tutor living across the city. Senior specialists are also the tutors most likely to have a full timetable, so being flexible about the format often gets you the person you actually want. Mixing the two with the same tutor, one session at home and one online, is common and works well. Our home versus online tutor comparison sets out the trade-offs, and the Nagpur tuition guide adds local timing tips.

CBSE's session opens in April, while state-board schools in Maharashtra usually reopen in June, so April to June is a clean start for CBSE students: new books, and time to repair last year's gaps before the term gathers pace. A start in July to September fits around unit tests and first-term exams. From October the work turns to finishing the syllabus before pre-boards, and from the new year to full papers. A winter start still helps, with the focus on papers and technique rather than new teaching. Check every date against official notices.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The class, number of subjects and the tutor's journey to your road move the figure. See the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Nagpur.

NXTutors asks Nagpur parents about CBSE or State Board because the two need different preparation. CBSE papers are built on NCERT books with many application questions and published marking schemes. The State Board's SSC and HSC follow the state textbooks, taught in more than one medium, so a matched tutor saves weeks of adjustment.
Neither CBSE nor the Maharashtra State Board is better for every Nagpur child; it depends on the textbooks, medium and exams your family plans for. CBSE works from NCERT books with case-based questions, while the State Board sets the SSC and HSC from state textbooks. For a fuller comparison, see our CBSE, ICSE, IB or IGCSE guide.
A Nagpur student switching from State Board to CBSE usually carries over most maths and science content. The work is in NCERT wording, case-based questions, step-marking and new terms if the medium of instruction changes. Moving the other way, the state textbooks' order and language and the board's own past papers need attention.
A Nagpur Class 9 child may opt for CBSE's Advanced paper in maths, science, both or neither, alongside the common 80-mark paper from 2026-27. Each Advanced paper is 25 marks and one hour, with higher-order questions only. Its marks do not count in the aggregate, but scoring half or more earns a mention on the marksheet.
Any Nagpur student who passes the first CBSE Class 10 board exam may sit the second to improve marks in up to three subjects. Those subjects come from science, maths, social science and the languages. The first exam is compulsory, anyone who missed three or more subjects in it cannot take the second, and 33% is needed to pass.
Up to Class 10, maths and science send most Nagpur CBSE families looking for a tutor, because each year builds on the last. In the senior classes, science students tend to struggle with physics and maths, and commerce students with accountancy. English help is common for students moving into English-medium classes.
A Nagpur CBSE student up to Class 10 benefits from a home tutor at the table for maths and science, catching the presentation errors CBSE marking punishes. Online fits senior specialists, short doubt sessions near the boards, and families in the north or far south-east. One session at home and one online with the same tutor is common.

Nagpur parents can judge a CBSE tutor in the demo by asking which sample paper and marking scheme they teach from and watching a case-based question. Check that steps, units and diagrams are corrected as well as the answer. Ask how a tutor with mostly SSC students adjusts to NCERT, and how they support practical files and projects.
