Science home tutor in Jamshedpur, Classes 6 to 10: steady habits in the middle years, sharp answers in the board year

School science changes shape quickly after Class 5. What begins as observation and activities becomes, by Class 10, three subjects with their own vocabulary, numericals, equations and diagrams. In Jamshedpur, children meet that change through NCERT books on CBSE, school-selected texts on ICSE, or the books prescribed by the Jharkhand Academic Council. A good science tutor teaches from whichever of these your child has, turns up at the same time every week, and trains the answer-writing that board examiners reward. NXTutors shortlists two or three such tutors, shows each fee in advance, and makes the first class a free demo.

What is new in science each year, and what should be practised at home?

Aaditya Kashyap wrote the CBSE and ICSE sections of this page. The table shows how the tutor's work should change as your child climbs from Class 6 to Class 10.

Science from Class 6 to Class 10 in Jamshedpur homes: what is new each year and what to practise with a tutor
ClassWhat is newPractise at home
6 and 7NCERT's activity-led Curiosity books on CBSE; a school-chosen text on ICSEExplaining each activity in one sentence with a neat labelled sketch
8Physics, chemistry and biology start to separate; first numericalsWriting the unit after every number, every time
9A heavier book: motion and graphs, matter, the cellClosing each gap before the next chapter begins
10The board paper and its marking schemeTimed sections under exam conditions

Until Class 10, a single tutor for all three sciences is usually the better arrangement: one person can tell whether a failed numerical is an arithmetic problem or a science problem. See the national science home tutor page, and the Class 6 science tutor and Class 7 science tutor pages for the early years.

Science on the Jharkhand board

JAC conducts the Matric (Class 10) examination for Jharkhand and decides its own science syllabus and marking, revising both from time to time. We do not set out the JAC paper on this page; take the current scheme from the council's official website. In a tutor, look for three things: explanations in the language your child writes in, homework from the prescribed book and the council's model papers, and the same care over diagrams and balanced equations that any board expects.

How is the CBSE Class 10 science paper structured?

The 2026-27 sample paper has 39 questions in a three-hour, 80-mark paper. Each type needs its own drill:

CBSE Class 10 science 2026-27: question types, how many of each, marks, and the method to train
TypeHow manyMarks eachMethod to train
Multiple-choice and assertion–reason201Quick, exact recall; read both statements in assertion–reason items
Short answer62Two separate points, no padding
Short answer73Three points, or a small diagram plus two points
Case- or source-based34Read the passage or data first, then answer part by part
Long answer35A diagram or equation and four or five ordered points

CBSE publishes sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic ahead of the exam; they are the most trustworthy practice there is.

Which units and skills carry the 80 board marks?

Biology accounts for 30 of the 80, chemistry and physics for 25 each. Chemical Substances (equations, acids and bases, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds) and World of Living (life processes, control and coordination, reproduction, heredity) are worth 25 apiece. Effects of Current is worth 13, Natural Phenomena (light, the eye and colour) 12, and Our Environment 5, which is easy to secure if revised rather than skipped. Half the paper checks knowledge and understanding, 30% application, and 20% analysis and evaluation. The school adds 20 internal marks, 5 each for periodic tests, multiple assessment, the portfolio and practical-based subject enrichment.

Our CBSE Class 10 science notes take each chapter in turn, and the Class 10 science tutor page shows how we plan a board year.

What sits outside the board paper, and how many chances are there?

For 2026-27, three topics are assessed by the school rather than on the board paper: the electric motor, electromagnetic induction and the generator; evolution; and the arrangement of elements in the periodic table. Teach them properly, since they carry internal marks and come back in Class 11, but do not spend board-revision weeks on them. The curriculum also lists 14 experiments that board questions draw on, so keep the practical file up to date.

All Class 10 students sit a compulsory main exam; eligible students can then take an optional second exam to raise their score in up to three subjects, science included. The 2027 dates are awaited on cbse.gov.in, so plan as though the main exam is the one that counts. The board-year planner helps with the calendar.

Is Class 9 science on a new book?

Yes. CBSE's 2026-27 Class 9 course follows NCERT's Exploration. The annual exam is still 80 marks plus 20 internal, divided among four units: Matter, its nature and behaviour (27), World of living (25), Motion, force, work and sound (23) and Earth as a system (5). Notes and guides handed down for the older book will not match. Our Class 9 science tutor page has more.

What should an ICSE family ask a science tutor?

ICSE Class 10 science is three papers, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each set by CISCE with its own internal assessment. Schools choose their own textbooks, so ask whether the tutor will work from your child's books and from CISCE specimen papers. Precise definitions and complete numericals decide ICSE marks. Some families need help in only one of the three, typically from Class 9. ICSE science tutors are scarcer, so start looking early; online lessons widen the choice.

How does your locality shape the after-school science slot?

Science lessons for Classes 6 to 10 usually fit between school and dinner, so a short and predictable trip matters most. Five localities show the range. Browse tutors by locality on our Jamshedpur page.

The old core and the far bank

Sakchi is one of the city's oldest neighbourhoods, with the oldest market and the busy Golchakkar crossing; homes are lane houses and flats, so avoid market hours. Dimna, on the Mango side of the Subarnarekha, mixes flats and houses; Dimna Chowk is heavy and elevated-road work is under way, so choose an off-peak time and a tutor from Mango or nearby.

The west, by the rivers

Sonari is often called the city's largest residential area and has many housing societies, split into North, West, East and South layouts. Expect gate registration and visitor parking rules. Marine Drive links it with Kadma, Adityapur, Sakchi and Bistupur and is lighter outside office hours.

South and east

Parsudih lies beyond Tatanagar station towards the Chaibasa road, with private houses and apartment buildings; plan around school-time traffic at the station crossing. Birsanagar is divided into twelve zones of plotted houses, so give the zone number and a landmark when booking the demo.

What should a tutor do in the fortnight before a unit test?

  1. List the chapters and their question types. Take the school's syllabus for the test and mark which chapters bring diagrams, numericals or definitions.
  2. Redraw the key diagrams from memory. Ray diagrams with arrows, circuits with the ammeter in series and voltmeter in parallel, the heart or nephron with correct labels.
  3. Balance and name equations. With state symbols wherever the question calls for them.
  4. One timed section. A short paper in the board's format, marked and talked through before the tutor leaves.

At the free demo, ask the tutor to teach your child's current chapter and watch for these habits. Our demo class checklist for parents lists more. If the first tutor does not suit, your next demo is with another from the shortlist, and a later switch is free.

How much does a science home tutor in Jamshedpur cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees. In Classes 6 to 10, board-year teaching usually costs more than help in the middle years, and the journey to your locality and the number of weekly lessons also matter. Every fee is visible before the demo.

How do you begin?

Share the class and board, the science that worries your child most, your locality and a landmark, and the afternoons that work. We send a shortlist of two or three science tutors with fees, and you choose one for a free demo. If no suitable tutor can reach you at that hour, we suggest online or part-online lessons. NXTutors is based in Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India.

Science Home Tutor in Jamshedpur: common questions

How much does a science home tutor in Jamshedpur charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names a fee, and you see every shortlisted fee before choosing whom to meet.

Can one tutor handle physics, chemistry and biology up to Class 10?

In most cases, yes. Up to Class 10 the three are taught as one subject, and a single tutor can tell whether a wrong numerical comes from arithmetic or from the science. For ICSE, where the three are separate papers, some families want help with just one, and we can match that too.

Do you match science tutors for JAC Class 10?

Yes. We look for tutors who teach from the books the Jharkhand Academic Council prescribes, in Hindi or English as your child writes, and who practise from the council’s model papers. Its syllabus and marking change from time to time, so take the current version from its official website.

What types of question are in the CBSE Class 10 science paper?

Thirty-nine in all: 20 one-mark multiple-choice and assertion–reason items, six two-mark and seven three-mark short answers, three four-mark case- or source-based questions, and three five-mark long answers. CBSE’s sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic are the most reliable practice for each type, and a tutor should build weekly practice around them.

Are there two CBSE Class 10 board exams now?

Yes. Every student sits the compulsory main exam, and eligible students may take an optional second exam to improve up to three subjects, including science. The 2027 dates have not been announced, so it is wise to prepare as if the main exam is the only attempt.

Is ICSE science one paper or three?

Three. At ICSE Class 10, CISCE sets Physics, Chemistry and Biology as separate papers, each with internal assessment of its own. Schools choose their own textbooks, so the tutor should teach from your child’s books and CISCE specimen papers, with special care over definitions and complete numericals.

Can a science tutor come to a society flat in Sonari?

Yes. Sonari has many housing societies, so expect gate registration and visitor parking rules; share the tutor’s name with the gate before the demo. Marine Drive links Sonari with Kadma, Adityapur and Bistupur and is lighter outside office hours, which suits an after-school slot for younger children.
