Now taking on home, online and hybrid tutors · in Ahmedabad
For a student who studies every other subject in Gujarati, English is often the subject that feels most foreign. That student is a common request in Ahmedabad, and it is quite a different job from coaching an English-medium ICSE candidate in Bodakdev on literature answers. The tutors who do well here say clearly which of these jobs they take, and teach it patiently.
No open english requests in Ahmedabad right now. New family requests appear here as they come in; join now so they can reach you.
This page is for English graduates, teachers, writers and trainers who want to teach English in Ahmedabad, at home or online. Joining NXTutors is free. You choose the classes, boards, mode, zones and fee.
GSEB students are a large part of English demand. The board teaches English from its own textbooks, with public exams in Standard 10 and Standard 12; in Standard 10, English as a second language is subject 16, built with reading passages, grammar items and writing tasks rather than the 24-item objective opening of the core papers. A good GSEB English tutor works from the prescribed book, builds vocabulary and sentence patterns steadily, explains a grammar point in Gujarati if that unlocks it, and then returns straight to English practice. Families also ask for the board's reading and grammar sections specifically, rather than general conversation, when English is the weak paper.
A second group is switching: a student moving from a Gujarati-medium school to an English-medium one, or from GSEB to CBSE, often in Standard 9 or 11. They need help with longer passages, structured answers and the vocabulary their new books assume. CBSE Class 10 English is one 80-mark board paper in which literature holds 40, plus 20 internal marks; ICSE has separate language and literature papers, and ISC students want composition and set-text help.
Cambridge IGCSE students take First Language English 0500 or English as a Second Language 0510; the second-language course has a reading and writing paper worth 70 percent. These families usually want past-paper practice and help explaining how a writer builds an effect. Younger children, including those from families who have moved to Ahmedabad from other states, often need reading fluency and phonics before grammar.
English teaching blends well with online sessions: essays, comprehension and corrections all work on a screen. That helps in Prahlad Nagar, Bopal & Shela, where there is no metro and families often keep core subjects with a nearby home tutor and take others online. A tutor living in Bopal or South Bopal can offer home lessons in the corridor; one living across the river can teach the same families online.
For home lessons, the metro links are useful. Navrangpura, Paldi & Ellisbridge has Paldi, Ellisbridge and APMC on the Red Line, with Old High Court as the interchange; apartment buildings want your name with the watchman first, and independent houses need a lane and landmark. In Maninagar, Isanpur & Kankaria, Maninagar station, Kankaria East and Apparel Park bring tutors in, and low-rise blocks make first visits simple.
On the east bank, Shahibaug, Asarwa & Meghaninagar is usually a simple trip for tutors already living east of the river, with Shahibaug buildings phoning the flat before letting a visitor up. Tutors on the west bank who specialise in literature or IGCSE often teach families there online rather than adding a bridge crossing to every week.
List your English work as separate lines: "GSEB English Standards 8–12 for Gujarati-medium students; CBSE and ICSE literature; IGCSE 0510 reading and writing; spoken English for adults". Say which languages you can explain in. Ahmedabad parents of Gujarati-medium students often ask this first, because they want someone who will meet their child where they are.
At the demo, ask for a recent piece of written English. Pick one paragraph, work out with the student what the question really asked, and rewrite it together. For a younger child, read a short passage aloud with them. Then show the parent what the next month looks like. Parents see your fee before booking; the tutor terms page explains how you are paid.
Track progress in a way the parent can see. Keep a folder of the student's answers with your corrections and the redrafts, and share a short note every few weeks: new words the student now uses, grammar errors that have stopped appearing, how far they get through a reading passage in the time allowed. For a Gujarati-medium GSEB student, English progress is gradual, and visible evidence is what keeps a family confident through Navratri, the Diwali break and the pre-board weeks.

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.
You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Work from the prescribed textbook, steady vocabulary and grammar, and practice in the board's reading, grammar and writing sections, often with explanations in Gujarati.
