Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Ahmedabad's classrooms run on four kinds of examination and several languages of instruction, and English sits differently in each. For a Gujarati-medium GSEB student, English is the language that has to be built up steadily from the textbook. For a CBSE or ICSE student, it is a paper where literature answers and writing formats decide the marks. For an IGCSE or IB student, it is analysis: how a text works, not only what it says. This page covers each of those, how English tutors travel across the city from Thaltej to Vastral, and how to judge one in a free demo class before you commit.
| Board | English exam | Practice that pays off |
|---|---|---|
| GSEB (Gujarat board) | English taught from the board's textbooks, with Class 10 and Class 12 public exams; paper pattern taken from the board's notices | Vocabulary and sentence work from the prescribed book, then the board's own papers |
| CBSE Class 10 | An 80-mark paper, half of it literature, with a formal letter and an analytical paragraph as writing tasks | Literature answers of the right length, and writing drilled to format |
| CBSE Class 12 | Reading 22, creative writing 18, literature 40; grammar no longer examined | Longer literature answers that connect themes across chapters |
| ICSE and ISC | Separate language and literature papers; ISC compositions from a choice of narrative, descriptive, reflective, argumentative, discursive or short story | Timed compositions, marked and redrafted |
| Cambridge IGCSE and IB | Unseen text analysis, extended writing or coursework, and orals | Explaining a writer's choices and their effect |
ICSE families will find question-by-question advice in our ICSE Class 10 English papers guide, and ISC students in the ISC Class 12 English guide.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board runs the state's Class 10 and Class 12 public examinations, and its schools teach in Gujarati, English and other media. We describe its English paper only in general terms; the pattern and timetable should come from the board's own notices. What we can describe is the kind of teaching that helps.
If your child studies every other subject in Gujarati, English is often the subject that feels most foreign, and the fix is steady exposure rather than exam tricks. A tutor who suits this student:
The same approach helps a student switching from a Gujarati-medium school to an English-medium one, or from GSEB to CBSE, where the first term brings the largest jump.
English lessons should be busy for the student, not the tutor. In an hour with a student from Class 7 upward, you would expect to see most of these:
With younger children the lesson is shorter: reading aloud together, sounding out new words, talking about the story and a few minutes of writing. The national English home tutor guide describes each stage in more detail.
For Cambridge IGCSE, the first question is which English your child is entered for. First Language English 0500 has a reading paper worth half the grade and either a directed writing and composition paper or a coursework portfolio of three assignments. English as a Second Language 0510 has a reading and writing paper worth 70% and a listening paper worth 30%, with speaking reported separately; on 0511 speaking counts towards the grade. The school decides the entry, and a tutor preparing for the wrong one wastes months.
For the IB, Language A: Language and Literature is assessed through an unseen analysis paper, a comparative essay, an individual oral and, at HL, an extra essay; at SL the weights are 35%, 35% and 30%. A tutor can coach analysis and comment on plans, but coursework must stay the student's own. Our guide to switching from CBSE to IB or IGCSE covers what else changes.
The Sabarmati divides the city, and the two metro lines, the Blue Line running east to west and the Red Line running north to south, meet at Old High Court. Some zones sit right on those lines; others have no station at all. Here is how a tutor usually reaches each one.
| Zone | Way in | Scheduling tip |
|---|---|---|
| Navrangpura, Paldi and Ellisbridge, e.g. Ambawadi | Both metro lines meet here; the Red Line runs south through Ellisbridge, Paldi and Ambawadi | Bridge approaches are slow at office hours; late afternoon or weekend mornings are easiest to keep |
| Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev, e.g. Memnagar | Blue Line in the north, including Gurukul Road in Memnagar; no station in Satellite or Vastrapur | Towers often log a visitor's phone number, so register the tutor first |
| Prahlad Nagar, Bopal and Shela | No metro; most tutors ride two-wheelers along the ring road | Choose a tutor who already lives in the corridor |
| Naranpura, Gota and Chandkheda, e.g. Ghatlodia | Red Line along the eastern side; Ghatlodia and Gota have no station | A tutor on a two-wheeler from your side of the highway is simplest |
| Maninagar, Isanpur and Kankaria, e.g. Isanpur | Maninagar railway station with a footbridge to BRTS, Kankaria East on the Blue Line; Vatva station for Isanpur | Market roads near Maninagar fill in the evening; an earlier slot is steadier |
| Nikol, Naroda and Bapunagar, e.g. Bapunagar | Blue Line in Vastral and Amraiwadi; road only for Nikol, Naroda and Odhav | Narrow lanes in Bapunagar suit a tutor on a two-wheeler; avoid industrial shift times |
| Shahibaug, Asarwa and Meghaninagar, e.g. Meghaninagar | Asarva railway station; nearest metro across the old city | An east-bank tutor has the easier trip; west-bank specialists often teach online |
Every locality is listed on our Ahmedabad home tuition page, and the west Ahmedabad and east Ahmedabad guides add local detail.
For a child still learning to read, or a Gujarati-medium student building English from the basics, a tutor at the table is usually worth the travel: they hear every word and can keep a young learner engaged. From about Class 6, online lessons work well for writing, since work is shared and marked on screen. Online also suits the south-western corridor, where there is no metro, and IB or IGCSE English, where the right specialist may live on the other side of the river or in another city. See our home tutor or online tutor comparison.
The first class is free. Bring your child's latest marked English paper, then ask:
Watch too whether your child wrote or spoke for much of the hour. If the fit is wrong, we set up the next demo from your shortlist; the demo class checklist has more to ask.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For English in Ahmedabad, the fee follows the class, the board and medium, the tutor's experience with that paper, the journey at your slot and the number of weekly lessons. Tutors set their own fees and you see them all before the demo. Our Ahmedabad home tuition fees guide explains more.
Send the class, the board and, for GSEB, the medium; the main worry; your locality and nearest station if any; the times that suit; and a budget. We reply with two or three matched English tutors and their fees, and the first class with the one you choose is a free demo. You can switch tutor later at no cost. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified; you can browse tutor profiles or book a free demo class directly.

To ask for an English tutor in Ahmedabad, send the class, board and medium, the main worry, your locality and nearest station, times and budget. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For English in Ahmedabad, the class, board and medium, the tutor's experience with that paper, travel and weekly lessons set the fee.
Yes, we look for Ahmedabad English tutors who teach from the Gujarat board's prescribed textbook and practise with its past papers. Tell us your child's medium, because a Gujarati-medium student usually needs steady vocabulary and sentence work before exam practice. Take the paper pattern and timetable only from the board's own notices.
A tutor helps an Ahmedabad child moving from Gujarati medium to an English-medium CBSE school by reading the new textbook together and building vocabulary lesson by lesson. Start before or at the very beginning of the move, and drill CBSE writing formats such as the formal letter and analytical paragraph. The first term brings the largest jump.
For CBSE students in Ahmedabad, Class 12 English Core gives reading 22 marks, creative writing 18 and literature 40, and grammar is no longer examined. Literature answers grow longer and are expected to connect themes across chapters, which is where many students comfortable in Class 10 start to lose marks.
An English home tutor can come regularly in Bopal if they live in the corridor, since Prahlad Nagar, Bopal, South Bopal and Shela in Ahmedabad have no metro. Most tutors ride two-wheelers along the ring road, and a weekly trip from across the river is hard to sustain. We list nearby tutors first and suggest online lessons for specialist English.
An Ahmedabad IGCSE student needs a tutor for the exact entry the school makes: First Language English 0500 or English as a Second Language 0510 or 0511. First Language rewards analysis of writers' effects and extended composition; Second Language rewards accurate reading, writing and listening. Preparing for the wrong one wastes months.
Online English tuition is worth it for most Ahmedabad students from about Class 6, because compositions and literature answers can be shared and marked on screen. It removes long journeys across the Sabarmati and opens up IB and IGCSE specialists. Young children and Gujarati-medium beginners usually progress faster with a tutor at home.
An hour with an English tutor in Ahmedabad, from Class 7 upward, should include short reading, feedback on the last piece of writing, and a redraft of one paragraph. Add one focused skill, such as a letter format or a grammar point from the student's own errors, and timed tasks in the weeks before exams.
IB Language A: Language and Literature, taken by some Ahmedabad students, is assessed through an unseen analysis paper, a comparative essay, an individual oral and an extra HL essay. At SL the weights are 35%, 35% and 30%. A tutor can coach analysis and comment on plans, but coursework must stay the student's own.
At an English demo in Ahmedabad, bring your child's latest marked paper and ask the tutor what they noticed; a good tutor names two or three priorities. Ask how your board's writing tasks are marked, what the next four weeks will cover and what your child should read at home.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
