Home Tuition Fees in Ahmedabad (2026): Rate, Subjects and Plan

By NXTutors Academic Team 9 min read

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. That band applies whether the class is in a Satellite apartment, a Paldi house on an older lane, a gated tower in Shela or a family home in Maninagar. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the demo.

An hourly band does not tell a family what to set aside. This guide starts with a matrix that pairs a rate with the number of subjects, places each stage and board in the band, looks at what the Sabarmati and the transit lines change, and compares home, online and mixed plans.

What does a rate come to once you add subjects?

The number of subjects usually moves the total more than the rate does. The matrix below assumes two hours a week for each subject, over four weeks, at four rates inside the NXTutors band. The two middle rates are illustrations, not quotes.

Rate an hourOne subject (8 hours in four weeks)Two subjects (16 hours)Three subjects (24 hours)
₹800₹6,400₹12,800₹19,200
₹1,200₹9,600₹19,200₹28,800
₹1,800₹14,400₹28,800₹43,200
₹2,500₹20,000₹40,000₹60,000

Read across a row and the total doubles and triples; read down a column and it roughly triples between the two ends of the band. So decide first which subjects truly need a tutor, then what rate each one needs. A Class 12 student with physics, chemistry and maths at the upper end sits in the bottom-right corner; a Class 7 student with maths alone sits in the first row's left-hand cell. If the three-subject column is out of reach, move one subject online or cut the strongest subject to one class a week rather than choosing the tutor with the lower rate for everything.

Where does your child's stage and board sit in the band?

Class, board and subject set most of a fee. Ahmedabad families study across CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB and IGCSE, and the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB), so the same tutor may quote differently for different students.

  • Classes 1 to 5: usually toward the lower part of the band. Homework support, reading and number work matter more than specialist depth, and one or two short classes a week are often enough.
  • Classes 6 to 8: still mostly in the lower and middle part. Maths and science start to need a tutor who explains rather than supervises, so ask each tutor how they check that a topic has been understood.
  • Classes 9 and 10: the middle of the band for CBSE, ICSE and GSEB. The board year brings more practice papers, so plan the hours in advance rather than adding them in a panic before exams.
  • GSEB students: tell us the medium of instruction. A tutor who can explain in the language the child studies in saves time at every class, and it is worth confirming this at the demo.
  • Classes 11 and 12 science: toward the upper end, and often one tutor per subject, since few tutors teach physics, chemistry and maths equally well at this level.
  • IB and IGCSE: toward the upper end, because the tutor must know the programme's assessment style. IB HL specialists can charge more than ₹2,500 an hour.
  • JEE and NEET: toward the upper end, and JEE Advanced specialists can charge more. A home tutor for board subjects can be paired with online sessions for entrance practice.

Does the side of the Sabarmati change the fee?

Not the band. Where you live mainly decides how many tutors can reach you easily, which changes how many quotes you can compare. In Ahmedabad the river, two metro lines, the BRTS and a few main roads do most of that sorting. The metro's Blue Line runs east to west across the river, from Vastral Gam in the east to Thaltej Gam in the west, and the Red Line runs north to south on the west bank, from Motera Stadium to APMC in Vasna. The BRTS ran 18 routes with 197 stations as of March 2025.

The west bank along the metro

Navrangpura, Ellisbridge, Paldi, Ambawadi, Vasna, Naranpura and Sabarmati all have Red or Blue Line stations in or next to them, and the two lines meet at Old High Court. A family here can draw tutors from along either line, so the shortlist is usually wide. The West Ahmedabad tuition guide goes area by area.

The SG Highway belt and the western edge

Satellite, Jodhpur, Prahlad Nagar, Bopal, South Bopal, Shela and Gota have no metro station of their own, though Thaltej, Memnagar and parts of Bodakdev are close to the Blue Line's western end. Tutors mostly come by two-wheeler, car or BRTS, and SG Highway is slow at office hours, so a tutor who lives close by and can keep a late-afternoon slot is often worth more than a slightly lower rate from across the city.

The east bank

Vastral, Amraiwadi and Kankaria have Blue Line stations, while Maninagar, Naroda and Asarwa rely on railway stations and road links. In the older areas many homes are independent houses on busy lanes, so the tutor comes straight to the door, and an evening slot fixed away from market and shift traffic holds better. The East Ahmedabad tuition guide covers each area.

Home, online or a mix: which plan fits the budget?

PlanTutor trips a weekWorks well whenAsk before you agree
All at homeOne per classThe child is young, needs close supervision, or struggles to focus on a screenCan the tutor keep the same slot through exam season?
All onlineNoneThe subject needs a specialist who is not nearby, such as IB HL or JEE AdvancedHow will written work be checked each week?
Home for one subject, online for anotherFewerA senior student has one weak subject and one where only practice is neededWill the two tutors share what they cover?

The mixed plan suits the western edge and senior students whose second or third subject needs a specialist. Our comparison of home and online tutors helps decide which subject goes where.

Two children at home: one tutor or two?

One tutor can sometimes teach both children. It can work when the two are close in class and board, and the tutor teaches one child after the other in the same visit, which saves a trip. It works less well when one child is in Class 4 and the other in Class 11 science, since few tutors are equally strong at both levels. The fee for each child is still set by the tutor, so ask each shortlisted tutor how they price two back-to-back sessions and compare the total, not only the hourly figure.

Which weeks of the year stretch the budget?

  • The run-up to school and board exams: extra classes are common. Agree in advance whether extra hours are at the same rate, and cap them.
  • The Navratri and Diwali weeks: many families pause or move classes. Agree how paused weeks are handled before they arrive, so nobody pays for classes that did not happen.
  • The summer break: a lighter plan of one or two classes a week, or online sessions if the family travels, keeps the habit without paying for a full timetable.

What should we settle before the first paid class?

QuestionOne common answerAnother common answer
When is the fee paid?Monthly, in advanceAfter a set number of classes
What if the family cancels? The class is rescheduled that weekThe class is counted if notice is short
What if the tutor cancels?A make-up class is offeredThe class is not charged
How long is each class? One hourAn hour and a half for senior subjects
How is progress checked?A short test every few weeksSchool test results shared with the tutor

Neither column is right for everyone; what matters is agreeing before the first paid class.

How NXTutors can help

Tell us the class, board, subject and your area of Ahmedabad, and we shortlist two or three matched tutors, starting with those nearest to you, then your zone, then the rest of the city, then online tutors across India. You see each tutor's fee before the demo, the first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free. Our demo class checklist for parents lists what to watch at that first class.

Start with maths home tutors in Ahmedabad, science, physics or chemistry, or browse area by area on home tutors across Ahmedabad. Families elsewhere in Gujarat can see home tutors in Surat. If you teach and live in the city, see tuition jobs in Ahmedabad.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a home tutor cost in Ahmedabad?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Ahmedabad tutor sets their own fee, whether the class is in Satellite, Paldi, Shela or Maninagar, and you see it before the free demo class.

How much should we budget for three Class 12 subjects in Ahmedabad?

Budgeting for three Class 12 subjects in Ahmedabad starts with hours: at two hours a week per subject, three subjects come to 24 hours in four weeks. Multiply those hours by each tutor's own rate; the matrix in this guide works it out at four rates in the band. Class 12 science usually sits toward the upper end, so if the total is out of reach, move one subject online.

Is a GSEB tutor in Ahmedabad cheaper than a CBSE or ICSE tutor?

A GSEB tutor in Ahmedabad is not cheaper as a rule, since class, subject and the tutor's experience set most of a fee and each tutor sets their own. For a GSEB student, the more useful check is whether the tutor can teach in the child's medium of instruction and knows the board's textbooks, which you can confirm at the free demo.

Does living near an Ahmedabad metro station lower the tuition fee?

Living near an Ahmedabad metro station does not lower the tuition fee directly, but it can bring more tutors and more quotes to compare. A home near a Red or Blue Line station can be reached by tutors from further along the line. In areas without a station, such as Bopal or Shela, a nearby tutor who keeps a steady slot often matters more than the rate.

Can one tutor teach two siblings in Ahmedabad?

One tutor can teach two siblings in Ahmedabad when the children are close in class and board and are taught one after the other in the same visit. It works less well with a Class 4 child and a Class 11 science student. Each tutor sets their own fee for this, so ask how two back-to-back sessions are priced and compare the total across your two or three matched tutors.

How should Ahmedabad families handle tuition during Navratri and Diwali?

Ahmedabad families should agree with the tutor, before the Navratri and Diwali weeks arrive, how paused or moved classes are handled and charged. That way nobody pays for classes that did not happen. In the summer break, a lighter plan of one or two classes a week, or online sessions while travelling, keeps the habit without paying for a full timetable.
