Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE is one of the four kinds of examination Ahmedabad families sit, alongside GSEB, CBSE and the international boards. Its difficulty is less about any single topic than about range: a wide syllabus in every subject, long answers that must be well organised, set literature in English, and internal assessment and project work running all year. The tutor who helps most is the one who builds a revision loop, so that nothing studied in Class 9 is forgotten by the board year, and who reads your child's written answers every week. This page explains how ICSE and ISC are structured, how they compare with GSEB, where tuition helps, and how tutors reach each zone. Abhinandan Tiwary (Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths) and Aaditya Kashyap (CBSE and ICSE science) wrote it, with Ajay Vatsyayan (IB, IGCSE and ISC maths) covering ISC.
A large share of Ahmedabad's students study under GSEB, the Gujarat board, which runs the state's Class 10 and Class 12 public exams with schools teaching in Gujarati, English and other media. In broad terms, a GSEB student prepares for one board result per stage from the textbooks the state prescribes. An ICSE student sits a larger number of separate papers, each with internal marks built in, and is expected to write fuller answers across almost every subject. Neither is simply harder; they reward different habits. A tutor who mostly teaches GSEB can be strong on the content and still be new to CISCE's specimen papers and the way its examiners award method marks, so ask. For anything about GSEB's own pattern, rely only on the board's notices.
Subjects come from three groups. Group I is compulsory: English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography. From Group II a student takes two or three subjects, such as Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies, Environmental Science or another language. Both groups put 80% of the mark on the paper and 20% on internal assessment. Group III adds one applied subject, Computer Applications for instance, split half and half between paper and internal work.
| Paper | Length | Exam marks | Internal marks | Where marks slip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 3 hours | 80 | 20, from at least two assignments marked by the teacher and an external examiner | Skipped steps; commercial maths such as banking and shares |
| Physics | 2 hours | 80 | 20, practical work | Units, derivation steps, ray diagrams |
| Chemistry | 2 hours | 80 | 20, practical work | Balanced equations, observations written precisely |
| Biology | 2 hours | 80 | 20, practical work | Labelled diagrams, exact terms |
CISCE publishes an Analysis of Pupil Performance for each subject after the exams, describing the errors examiners met most. A tutor who reads these and teaches from specimen papers is working to the real marking.
Because CISCE treats Classes 9 and 10 as one syllabus, a chapter learnt in July of Class 9 can be examined nearly two years later. A revision loop stops it fading. The idea is simple: every week the tutor teaches the current school topic, and also brings back one older chapter for a short written test. The tutor keeps a list of chapters with the date each was last revisited, so gaps are visible. Long-answer subjects join the loop too: one written answer in English, history or geography each fortnight, marked for structure as well as facts.
| Period | New teaching | Loop |
|---|---|---|
| Class 9 | Most of each session | One older chapter a week; habits of full working and labelled diagrams |
| Class 10, to winter | Finishing the syllabus | Two older chapters a week, with timed answers |
| Class 10, final months | Very little | Specimen papers in full, marked against examiner-report errors |
English in ICSE includes prescribed literature, and History, Civics and Geography asks for long, organised answers that use facts precisely. These papers are easy to under-prepare, because a student can read the textbook and still struggle to write well against the clock. The fix is regular writing that someone actually marks: a clear first sentence that answers the question, points in a sensible order, a quotation or fact to support each one, and nothing padded. For a child who has moved from Gujarati-medium study, this is often the steepest part of the change, and an English tutor who corrects both expression and structure helps across every other paper as well.
A good weekly session for any ICSE subject follows the same rhythm. It begins with the student's own attempt at a few questions, marked line by line before anything new is taught; continues with the current topic, taken from the textbook to specimen-paper level; and ends with one answer written under time. That last ten minutes is what turns knowledge into marks.
ISC Mathematics combines an 80-mark, three-hour theory paper with 20 marks of project work in both years; our ISC maths tutor page and the ICSE and ISC maths guide go further.
Students leaving ICSE in Ahmedabad have three main routes. Staying with CISCE for ISC keeps the answer style and deepens the electives. Moving to GSEB for Classes 11 and 12 means the state's textbooks, and possibly a different medium, so ask the tutor to use the new book's terms from the start. Moving to CBSE means NCERT and its sample papers. Maths and science content carries over in each case; the first month of tuition should go on the new textbook's language and paper style. Decide before Class 11 begins if you can, since ISC subject choices close early and school calendars differ between boards. Our guide to choosing a board and stream can help with the decision, and our CBSE home tutors in Ahmedabad page covers that route.
ICSE specialists are fewer than GSEB or CBSE tutors, so the journey matters early. On the west bank, Navrangpura, Paldi and Ellisbridge is the easiest place to reach: the two metro lines meet at Old High Court, close to Navrangpura, so a tutor from either bank can ride in. Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev has stations only in its northern half; Vastrapur relies on two-wheelers, autos and BRTS, and towers ask for a visitor's phone number at the gate. Prahlad Nagar, Bopal and Shela has no metro, so in South Bopal a local home tutor for core subjects plus an online specialist is a common answer. In Naranpura, Gota and Chandkheda, Ghatlodia has no station, so choose a tutor who already travels your side of SG Highway.
On the east bank, Maninagar, Isanpur and Kankaria can be reached by train, metro or BRTS; around Kankaria, avoid lake-side crowds on Sundays and holidays. Nikol, Naroda and Bapunagar has Blue Line stations, though shift traffic matters. In Shahibaug, Asarwa and Meghaninagar, Shahibaug buildings confirm each visitor with a call to the flat; if the right ICSE specialist lives on the west bank, an online session is the practical bridge. For online ICSE work, the tutor must see written answers live.

Not simply harder, but different. GSEB students prepare for one board result per stage from the state's textbooks, in Gujarati, English or another medium. ICSE students sit more separate papers, each with internal marks, and write fuller answers across most subjects. The habits a tutor builds should match the board your child sits.
CISCE treats Classes 9 and 10 as one syllabus, so early chapters can be examined much later. In a revision loop, the tutor teaches the current topic and also brings back an older chapter each week for a short written test, keeping a dated list so nothing is left untouched for months.
Maths is one three-hour, 80-mark paper with 20 internal marks from at least two assignments. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate two-hour, 80-mark papers, each with 20 internal marks for practical work. Examiners reward full working, precise terms and labelled diagrams, so presentation needs practice.

Content carries over in every case, but the first month of tuition should go on the new textbook's language and the new board's paper style.
English is compulsory, with three to five electives and six subjects at most. A subject cannot be changed after 15 September of the Class 11 registration year, and only subjects studied in Class 11 can continue in Class 12. Promotion needs 35% in four subjects including English, and 75% attendance.
