Economics tuition in Ahmedabad: building answers that earn the marks

Ahmedabad families sit four kinds of examination, as our city page explains: the Gujarat board, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and the international IB and IGCSE. In economics the content overlaps more than parents expect, yet the written answer each board rewards is quite different, from a short GSEB definition to a 12-mark ISC answer to an unstructured A Level essay. Most marks in senior economics are won or lost in the writing. This page sets out what each board asks for, how to build the answer it wants, how a tutor reaches each part of the city, and what to check in the free demo. Our national economics home tutor guide has the full board detail.

What does each board examine?

Senior economics on the boards Ahmedabad students take
Board and courseWhat is examinedCoursework or project
GSEB, Class 12 commerceThe board's own economics paper from its textbook; pattern in the board's noticesAs the board and school set
CBSE 030Class 11: Statistics (40), Microeconomics (40). Class 12: Macroeconomics (40), Indian Economic Development (40)A 20-mark project each year
ISC 85680 theory marks: 20 short-answer, then five 12-mark questions from eightTwo 10-mark projects each year
Cambridge IGCSE 0455Paper 1 multiple choice (30%); Paper 2 structured questions (70%)None
Cambridge AS & A Level 9708Multiple choice, data response and essays; two-part essays at AS, unstructured at A LevelNone
IB Diploma, SL and HLPaper 1 extended response, Paper 2 data response, and Paper 3 policy paper for HLThree news commentaries: 30% at SL, 20% at HL

For help across subjects on these boards, see our CBSE tutors in Ahmedabad, ICSE and ISC tutors in Ahmedabad and IB tutors in Ahmedabad pages.

How should an economics answer be built for each board?

A tutor's most useful job is teaching the shape of a good answer for your child's paper. These are the shapes a good tutor teaches.

  • Short answers (GSEB, CBSE, ISC Part I). An exact definition in the textbook's terms, one line of explanation, and an example. No padding; examiners look for the key word.
  • Numericals (CBSE statistics and national income). Formula, substitution, result with units, then one sentence on what the result means. The CBSE curriculum asks students to interpret, not just compute.
  • 12-mark ISC answers. A plan of three or four points, each with explanation and, where it helps, a labelled diagram. With 60 of 80 theory marks in this form, pace matters as much as content.
  • Cambridge essays. At AS, follow the two parts the question gives. At A Level there are no parts, so a short written plan comes first and a clear conclusion last.
  • IB commentaries and Paper 3. Link a real news extract to theory and a key concept, with a diagram; for the HL policy paper, use the data provided and end with a reasoned recommendation. A tutor may teach this on practice material but must never write any part of a commentary.

A Class 12 national income question shows the numerical shape at work. Suppose gross domestic product at market price is ₹1,000 crore, depreciation is ₹100 crore and net indirect taxes are ₹50 crore. Net domestic product at factor cost is 1,000 − 100 − 50, which is ₹850 crore. A student who stops there has the number; a student who adds that this is the income earned by the factors of production inside the country, after allowing for worn-out capital and taking out the tax element in prices, has the meaning too. Choosing the right aggregate, and saying what it measures, is where national income answers often go wrong, so a tutor drills both together.

What should a GSEB economics tutor know?

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board runs the state's Class 10 and Class 12 public examinations, and its commerce students study economics from the board's own textbook. Our city page notes that schools on this board teach in Gujarati, English and other media, so the tutor should use the same terms as your child's book; an English-medium explanation of "elasticity" is little help to a student who must write the answer in Gujarati. The board publishes and revises its paper pattern, so we leave that to its notices. Ask for a tutor who practises from the board's past papers in your child's medium.

What does a first month with an economics tutor look like?

A sample first month, adjusted to the board and the gap found in week one
WeekMain taskEvidence it is working
1Read a recent marked test; find whether definitions, diagrams, numericals or long answers lose the most marksA written list of the two biggest gaps
2Repair the first gap with short daily practice set by the tutorFewer errors of that kind in homework
3Repair the second gap; one full exam-style answer marked against the board's criteriaThe student can mark a sample answer themselves
4A short timed test on the month's chaptersA score you can compare with the school's next test

Students choosing between commerce and humanities can read our Class 11 stream choice guide and Class 11 home tutor page; both were written for Gurugram, but the reasoning carries over to Ahmedabad.

Is economics tested in CUET?

NTA's CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin lists Economics / Business Economics (code 309) as a domain subject, with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus. GSEB and ISC students should compare that syllabus with their own course, and everyone should read the bulletin for the year they apply. CUET practice is about quick recognition, so it fits most naturally after the written board answers are secure.

How does a tutor reach your part of Ahmedabad?

Home or online economics lessons?

Economics works well online: diagrams on a shared whiteboard, a news article read together, essays marked on screen. For IB and A Level students that often means a wider choice of tutors who have taught the exact course. Home lessons suit CBSE statistics, younger IGCSE students and anyone who drifts on a screen. Families in the south-western corridor, where there is no metro, often mix the two. Our city page also flags Uttarayan, the kite festival in mid-January, as worth planning around; it falls in pre-board season, so moving that week's lessons online keeps revision on track. Online lessons also suit the last weeks before an IB or Cambridge paper, when short, frequent sessions on past questions matter more than long visits. Our home or online tutor article sets out the choice.

What should you check in the demo?

  1. The tutor asks for board, course, level and, for GSEB, the medium.
  2. They teach the answer shape your child's board rewards, from the list above.
  3. Your child draws and labels diagrams and writes at least one answer.
  4. The tutor marks that answer against the board's criteria, there and then.
  5. For IB, they explain the commentary criteria and refuse to write coursework.
  6. You leave with the first month planned.

If the fit is wrong, we arrange the next tutor on your shortlist; switching is free. See our demo class checklist for more.

What does it cost, and how do you start?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees, and every shortlisted fee is visible before the demo. Read the Ahmedabad home tuition fees guide and our pricing guide.

Economics Tutor in Ahmedabad: common questions

Do you have IB economics tutors in Ahmedabad?

Families can request one, and we match on SL or HL. HL students sit an extra policy paper, and both levels submit three news commentaries. If no suitable tutor can reach your area at your slot, online lessons widen the choice across India, and economics adapts to screen teaching well.

Can a tutor teach GSEB economics in Gujarati medium?

You can request one, and we ask for the medium on every GSEB request. The tutor should use the same terms as your child's textbook, because definitions must be written in the paper's language. The board publishes and revises its own paper pattern, so take current details from its notices.

How are ISC economics long answers marked?

ISC Economics gives 60 of its 80 theory marks to Part II, where students answer five questions from eight, each worth 12. A strong answer has three or four planned points with explanation and, where useful, a labelled diagram. Timed practice of full questions is the most reliable way to improve.

We live in Prahlad Nagar. Will a tutor come home?

Often, if the tutor already lives in the south-western corridor. No metro serves Prahlad Nagar, Bopal or Shela, so most tutors come by two-wheeler, and junctions on the ring road are busy at office hours. For specialist courses such as IB or A Level, families here often add online lessons.

What is the difference between AS and A Level economics essays?

In Cambridge 9708, AS essays come in two parts that guide the structure, while A Level essays are unstructured, so the student must plan the argument alone. A tutor who has taught both stages can teach planning directly, with a short written plan before every essay and a clear conclusion.

Is economics included in CUET?

Economics / Business Economics is a domain subject in NTA's CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin, with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus. GSEB and ISC students should compare that syllabus with their own course. Read the bulletin for your year of application, as NTA publishes a new one each cycle.

How much does an economics tutor in Ahmedabad charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET toward the upper end; IB HL specialists can charge more. Board, travel across the river and weekly lessons also affect the fee. Every shortlisted fee is shown before the free demo.
