Home Tuition in West Ahmedabad: An Area-by-Area Guide
West of the Sabarmati, Ahmedabad runs from the old-established streets of Navrangpura and Ellisbridge, close to the river, out to the gated towers of Bopal and Shela on the city's western edge. For a tutor's visit that spread matters: the older areas near the river sit on the metro, the newer west depends on SG Highway, the ring roads and the BRTS, and the door routine shifts from a watchman's register to a tower security desk.
This guide covers four zones: Navrangpura, Paldi and Ellisbridge; Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev; Prahlad Nagar, Bopal and Shela; and Naranpura, Gota and Chandkheda. For each area it notes how tutors arrive, the gate or door routine, and class timing.
How do the four western zones compare?
| Zone | How tutors usually arrive | Typical homes | Easiest weekday slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Navrangpura, Paldi and Ellisbridge | Red and Blue Line stations, then a short auto ride or walk | Older apartment blocks, independent houses, newer high-rises | Early evening, before the bridge approaches fill |
| Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev | Blue Line to Thaltej or Gurukul Road, or two-wheeler along SG Highway | Gated apartment societies, bungalows on plotted lanes, towers | Late afternoon |
| Prahlad Nagar, Bopal and Shela | Two-wheeler, car or BRTS; no metro station | Gated complexes and township-style projects, some villas | Late afternoon or weekends |
| Naranpura, Gota and Chandkheda | Red Line in the north and centre, BRTS or road in Gota | Mid-range societies, housing board colonies, bungalows | Before the evening rush |
Navrangpura, Paldi and Ellisbridge
This zone holds some of the western city's longest-settled streets. Navrangpura was one of the first areas developed outside the old walled city, and the steel Ellis Bridge across the Sabarmati, completed in 1892, has been a protected heritage structure since 1989. Old High Court is the interchange between the Blue Line and the Red Line, and the Red Line continues south through Gandhigram, Paldi and Shreyas to its terminus at APMC in Vasna.
- Navrangpura: older low-rise blocks, independent houses and newer high-rises beside busy commercial streets. Commerce Six Road station on the Blue Line is in the area. The main crossroads are crowded in the evening, so an early-evening slot or a weekend morning is easier.
- Ellisbridge: apartment buildings, independent homes and plots near the riverfront. Gandhigram station on the Red Line sits here, next to Gandhigram railway station. Ashram Road and the bridge approaches slow down at office hours.
- Paldi: traditional houses, some from the Art Deco period, beside apartment complexes and builder floors. Parking in the older lanes is limited, so tutors often come by two-wheeler, and Paldi station on the Red Line is close by.
- Ambawadi: mostly apartments, with villas and independent houses in quieter pockets. Shreyas station is in the Sukhipura part of the area. Societies ask visitors to sign in, so give the guard the tutor's name before the demo.
- Vasna: multi-storey apartment societies with some independent houses and villas. APMC station at the Red Line's southern end serves the area, and the 132 Feet Ring Road and Vasna Road carry most of the traffic, so an after-school slot before the rush works well.
Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev
SG Highway, which forms a major part of National Highway 147, ties this zone together, with an underpass at the Thaltej junction. The Blue Line section to Thaltej, with Gurukul Road, Doordarshan Kendra and Thaltej stations, opened on 30 September 2022, and Thaltej Gam became the line's western terminus on 8 December 2024.
- Satellite: apartment complexes of varying age and bungalows on plotted lanes. There is no metro station, so tutors come by two-wheeler, car, auto or BRTS. Bungalows allow a direct doorstep visit with easier parking.
- Jodhpur: apartments, builder floors, independent houses and some villas beside Satellite. A BRTS route runs from the Shivranjani crossroads towards Bopal, and traffic around that junction builds in the evening.
- Vastrapur: built around Vastrapur Lake, with mid-rise blocks, newer towers and bungalows in some lanes. Many gated societies record visitors and a few ask for the tutor's details in advance. Weekend mornings are often the calmest slot.
- Bodakdev: apartment towers and gated societies with a notable share of bungalows. Thaltej Gam and Thaltej stations are the nearest stops. Tower security often logs a phone number, so inform the gate before the first visit.
- Thaltej: grew around an old village and its lake and now falls in the North West Zone of the municipal corporation. Thaltej station opened in September 2022, so tutors from the old city and the eastern suburbs can ride straight in.
- Memnagar: mostly 2 and 3 BHK flats in mid-rise societies. Gurukul Road station is located here. Parking inside societies is limited, which makes a two-wheeler the simplest option for the tutor.
Prahlad Nagar, Bopal and Shela
Much of this zone is recent growth. Bopal grew from a village into a large suburb: its population rose from 18,553 in 2001 to 55,068 in 2011; Bopal and neighbouring Ghuma were merged into a municipality in 2015, and Bopal, Shela and Ghuma later came under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The zone has no metro station, but the city's outer ring road has a major junction at Bopal, and BRTS Route 17 runs to South Bopal from the Satellite side.
- Prahlad Nagar: premium flats in gated complexes beside a large cluster of offices. Entry is often confirmed with the family by phone, so set that up before the demo.
- Bopal: mid-priced multi-storey apartments and gated societies, with villas in newer pockets. A BRTS route links Bopal with the Shivranjani crossroads, and the Bopal crossroads get crowded at office hours, so aim for a late-afternoon class.
- South Bopal: often called SoBo, almost entirely modern gated complexes. Some issue a visitor pass, so share the tutor's details in advance. A public park with sports courts opened here in 2018.
- Shela: newer towers and township-style projects on the western edge, with road links towards Sanand. Visitors may be registered at the main gate and again at the tower, so allow extra time for the first visit, and consider online classes for specialist subjects.
Naranpura, Gota and Chandkheda
The Red Line from Motera Stadium to APMC was inaugurated on 30 September 2022 and opened to the public on 6 October 2022, giving the north-west a direct line down the west bank. From Motera Stadium the Yellow Line now continues to Gandhinagar, and its final section into Gandhinagar was inaugurated on 11 January 2026. BRTS Route 9 ends at the Gota and Vasant Nagar Township area.
- Naranpura: budget blocks, mid-segment societies and large bungalows. Vijay Nagar station on the Red Line serves the area. Internal roads can be narrow, so a two-wheeler is easier, and Vijay Char Rasta is crowded in the evening.
- Ghatlodia: densely built, largely low-rise, with 2 and 3 BHK societies and independent houses. There is no metro station inside; tutors often ride the Blue Line to Gurukul Road or Thaltej and finish by auto. In older societies the tutor goes straight to the door.
- Gota: mid-range apartment societies that grew after SG Highway was built. BRTS Route 9 gives tutors a bus option, and a class timed before the evening rush on the highway keeps the schedule steady.
- Chandkheda: joined the municipal corporation on 19 January 2008. Homes range from large housing board societies and colonies to builder floors and independent houses. Motera Stadium station is next door.
- Sabarmati: long-settled, with apartments, older independent homes and railway colony areas. Sabarmati station on the Red Line serves the area, so tutors from Paldi, Vasna or Naranpura can ride straight up the line.
When should a weekday class start in West Ahmedabad?
- Late afternoon along SG Highway. In Satellite, Bodakdev, Prahlad Nagar and Gota, the highway and its service lanes are slowest at office hours, so a class that starts before the evening rush is the most reliable.
- Early evening near a station. In Navrangpura, Paldi, Memnagar, Naranpura and Sabarmati, a tutor who comes by metro can keep an early-evening slot even when the roads are busy.
- Weekend mornings on the western edge. In Bopal, South Bopal and Shela, weekend mornings suit longer sessions.

Frequently asked questions
Which parts of West Ahmedabad are easiest for a tutor to reach by metro?
Areas on the Red and Blue Lines: Navrangpura, Ellisbridge, Paldi, Ambawadi, Vasna, Memnagar, Thaltej, Naranpura and Sabarmati all have a station in or beside them. Old High Court links the two lines, so a tutor from almost anywhere along either line can reach these homes and finish with a short auto ride.
How do tutors reach Bopal, South Bopal and Shela without a metro?
Mostly by two-wheeler or car along SG Highway and the outer ring road. A BRTS route links Bopal with the Shivranjani crossroads, and BRTS Route 17 runs to South Bopal. Gated complexes register visitors, sometimes twice, so share the tutor's details in advance and choose a late-afternoon or weekend slot.
Do tutors need to register at the gate in Satellite and Bodakdev?
In most apartment societies and towers, yes. Guards keep a visitor register, and some Bodakdev towers ask for a phone number, so tell the gate before the first visit. Bungalows on plotted lanes are simpler, with a direct doorstep visit and easier parking, which suits tutors who come by car.
When is the easiest time for a home class near SG Highway?
Late afternoon, before the office rush. SG Highway and its service lanes are slowest after office hours, particularly near Bodakdev, Prahlad Nagar and the Thaltej junction. Weekend mornings suit longer sessions. If the tutor comes by metro to Thaltej or Gurukul Road, an early-evening slot can also work.
How much does home tuition cost in West Ahmedabad?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which you see before the free demo.
