Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Ahmedabad families sit four kinds of examination, and a large share of the city's students study under GSEB, the Gujarat board, in Gujarati, English or another medium. So when a parent asks for a CBSE tutor, two details decide the match before anything else: that the tutor really works to CBSE's papers rather than GSEB's, and that they can reach your side of the river at a time that survives the evening traffic. This page explains how CBSE differs from GSEB, what each stage from Class 6 to Class 12 involves under the 2026-27 curriculum, which subjects parents usually want help with, and how tutors reach each zone. Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and Aaditya Kashyap on CBSE and ICSE science.
| CBSE | GSEB | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sets the public exams | CBSE, nationally, at Class 10 and Class 12 | The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, at Class 10 and Class 12 |
| Textbooks | NCERT | As prescribed for the state's schools |
| Medium in Ahmedabad | Ask the school | Gujarati, English and other media |
| What the papers stress | Applying ideas: case-based and assertion–reason questions, unfamiliar settings | Take the pattern only from the board's own notices |
| Session start | April | The school's own calendar |
The practical effect shows up when a student changes board. A child moving from a Gujarati-medium GSEB school to CBSE knows much of the maths and science but meets new terms in English, NCERT's way of explaining, and questions that describe a situation before asking anything. A tutor who can explain a term in both languages for the first few weeks makes that move much smoother. The reverse move needs the state textbooks and the board's papers.
| Classes | How the year is assessed | What a tutor should focus on |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 | School exams; computational thinking and AI literacy folded into subjects from 2026-27 | Mental arithmetic, fractions, a start on algebra, careful reading |
| 9 | School annual exam, 80 marks, plus 20 internal | Maths and science foundations; whether to attempt the Advanced papers |
| 10 | Board exam of 80 plus 20 school marks in each major subject | Finishing chapters by early winter, then full timed papers |
| 11 | School exams | The step up in physics and maths; commerce basics |
| 12 | Board exam on the whole Class 12 syllabus, plus practical or internal marks | Complete answers, practical files, sample papers |
The jump comes in Class 9, and whatever is left shaky there resurfaces in the board year, so a year of steady tuition in Class 9 is usually worth more than a rushed term in Class 10.
Class 9 maths and science now have one common syllabus and one common 80-mark paper. A student who wants a stretch can add an Advanced paper in maths, science or both, each a one-hour, 25-mark paper of higher-order questions. CBSE keeps these marks out of the aggregate and notes a score of 50% or more on the marksheet. The Basic and Standard maths options are being withdrawn, except for the 2026-27 Class 10 batch. Students in the transition batches also study a compulsory third language, assessed by the school with no board exam.
In Class 10, each major subject combines an 80-mark board paper with 20 marks of school internal assessment, and 33% is the pass mark. There are now two board exams: the first for everyone, and an optional second in which a student who has passed can try to improve up to three subjects from science, maths, social science and the languages. Use the second only for a subject that genuinely went wrong.
About half of each secondary paper is competency-focused: case-based, source-based, integrated, data-interpretation, situational and application questions. CBSE releases sample papers and marking schemes in advance, and a tutor should be using this year's.
Physics, chemistry and biology are each marked as 70 for theory and 30 for practical work. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, of which a student picks one, are marked 80 and 20 internal, like accountancy, economics and business studies. CBSE says senior papers will lean further towards real-life application within the textbooks.
Plenty of science students combine the board with JEE or NEET preparation. A board tutor then adds most by protecting what coaching tends to skip: NCERT wording, full written answers, and the practical record. See JEE home tutors in Ahmedabad and NEET home tutors in Ahmedabad for the entrance side.
Maths and science dominate up to Class 10. In the senior classes, science students most often need physics and maths, and commerce students accountancy. A student moving from Gujarati-medium study may want English support as well. Whatever the subject, a good session follows a simple shape: a check of the week's NCERT exercises, one chapter taught or repaired from the textbook explanation up to an application question on the same idea, and a few board-style answers written in full and marked against the scheme. Ask the tutor to keep a short record of chapters covered and mistakes that keep returning, and look at it once a month. Our Ahmedabad pages:

West of the river. Navrangpura, Paldi and Ellisbridge is where the Blue and Red Lines meet at Old High Court, so tutors from the north or the east bank can ride in. In Satellite, Vastrapur and Bodakdev, the metro serves only the northern half; Satellite has no station, so most tutors arrive by two-wheeler, auto or BRTS, and towers log visitors' phone numbers. Prahlad Nagar, Bopal and Shela has no metro at all; for Bopal, look first at tutors already living in Bopal, South Bopal or Shela. In Naranpura, Gota and Chandkheda, the Red Line reaches Naranpura at Vijay Nagar, and families in Chandkheda can also draw on tutors travelling from Gandhinagar via Motera Stadium.
East of the river. Maninagar, Isanpur and Kankaria is strong on rail: Maninagar station links to BRTS, and Kankaria East is on the Blue Line. Nikol, Naroda and Bapunagar is on the Blue Line's first stretch, which suits parts of Nikol; industrial shift times load the roads, so fix a mid-evening slot. In Shahibaug, Asarwa and Meghaninagar, a tutor from elsewhere on the east bank usually has the simplest journey.
Up to Class 10, a home tutor who sees the working and checks the notebook is usually worth arranging, and CBSE tutors are not hard to find on either bank. Online sessions earn their place in three cases: a senior specialist who lives across the river, short doubt sessions in the board months, and festival weeks when evening routines change. Families in Paldi, Ambawadi and the Bopal side often pair a weekly home lesson with online sessions for a specialist subject. For maths and science online, the tutor must see written working live. See our home versus online tutor comparison, and the west and east Ahmedabad tuition guides for local timing.

CBSE's session opens in April, the natural point to close last year's gaps. Navratri evenings and the Diwali break change family routines in October and November, just as the syllabus needs finishing, so agree lesson times for those weeks early. Uttarayan in mid-January falls in the run of pre-boards and sample papers; plan around it rather than lose a week. Confirm all exam dates from official notices.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The class, the number of subjects and a tutor's journey across the river move the figure. See the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Ahmedabad.

Neither CBSE nor the Gujarat board suits every Ahmedabad child; the right choice depends on the school, the medium and the child's plans. CBSE uses NCERT books and stresses application; GSEB sets its own papers, taught in Gujarati, English and other media. For more, see our CBSE, ICSE, IB or IGCSE guide.
A child moving from Gujarati-medium GSEB to CBSE in Ahmedabad usually keeps most of the maths and science but meets new English terms and case-based questions. A tutor who explains each term in both languages for the first few weeks, then moves fully to CBSE papers and marking schemes, makes the switch much smoother.
An Ahmedabad CBSE Class 9 student should take an Advanced maths or science paper only in a subject they enjoy and already handle comfortably. From 2026-27 each Advanced paper is a one-hour, 25-mark paper taken in addition to the common 80-mark paper. The marks stay out of the aggregate, but 50% or more is noted on the marksheet.
Every CBSE Class 10 student in Ahmedabad sits the first board exam; one who passes may take the optional second to improve up to three subjects. Those come from science, maths, social science and the languages. Each major subject is an 80-mark board paper plus 20 school marks, and 33% is the pass mark.
In CBSE Classes 11 and 12, Ahmedabad students take physics, chemistry and biology as 70 theory plus 30 practical, and maths, accountancy and economics as 80 plus 20. Students also preparing for JEE or NEET gain most from a board tutor who protects NCERT wording, full written answers and the practical record.
CBSE tuition in Ahmedabad can be online, though home sessions usually suit younger children and maths and science up to Class 10. Online earns its place for a senior specialist across the river, short doubt sessions in the board months and festival weeks. Families on the Bopal side, which has no metro, often pair one home lesson with online sessions.
Judge a CBSE tutor in Ahmedabad by asking which current sample paper and marking scheme they teach from, and how they adjust from GSEB habits to NCERT marking. Give a case-based question to see if they teach reading the situation first, and check that they correct steps, units and diagrams, not just answers.
CBSE tuition in Ahmedabad works well from April, when the CBSE session opens, so last year's gaps close before Navratri and Diwali change routines. Agree lesson times for October and November early, as the syllabus needs finishing then. Uttarayan in mid-January falls during pre-boards, so plan around it and confirm exam dates from official notices.
