Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics, syllabus 0580, looks simple from the outside: two papers and a grade. Inside, it is a set of choices that a family in Ahmedabad needs to settle early. Is your child entered for Core or Extended? Is the non-calculator paper, worth half the grade, as strong as the calculator one? Which exam series, June, November or the March series offered in India? And should Additional Mathematics, 0606, sit alongside it? This guide is by Ajay Vatsyayan, who covers IB, IGCSE and ISC maths on NXTutors. It works through those questions and then turns to the practical one: which tutors can reach your part of the city every week. It sits under our maths home tutors in Ahmedabad page and the IGCSE tutors in Ahmedabad hub.
With those three facts we can match a tutor who has recently taught that exact combination. A tutor who has mostly taught CBSE Class 10 can be a fine teacher of algebra and still miss what Cambridge examiners reward.
| Tier | Without calculator | With calculator | Grades available |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | Paper 1: 1 h 30 min, 80 marks, 50% | Paper 3: 1 h 30 min, 80 marks, 50% | C to G |
| Extended | Paper 2: 2 h, 100 marks, 50% | Paper 4: 2 h, 100 marks, 50% | A* to E |
The Core column stops at C. A student entered for Core cannot earn a B however well they write, which is why the tier conversation matters more than any single topic. The reverse risk is real too: an Extended paper attempted by a student who is not ready can leave them below the lowest Extended grade. A tutor's honest reading of a few past papers, in Grade 9 and again early in Grade 10, gives the school and the family something firmer to decide on.
The syllabus lists nine topics, from number and algebra through geometry and trigonometry to statistics and probability, and Cambridge notes that the order is not a teaching sequence. Cambridge also refreshed the content for exams from 2025, so a revision book printed for earlier years can show topics in the wrong place or miss newer material. Work from the syllabus document for your child's exam year.
Paper 1 or Paper 2 is sat without any calculator at all, and it carries the same weight as the calculator paper. Students who lean on the calculator in class tend to drop marks here, less on hard topics than on fractions, negative numbers, standard form and estimating. The fix is unglamorous and works: ten minutes of mental and written arithmetic at the start of every session, then a short non-calculator set on whatever topic is being taught that week.
For the calculator paper, a scientific calculator is allowed; graphical and algebraic calculators are not. A student should know their own model well, including how to store values and how to avoid rounding halfway through a calculation.
Examiner reports for recent series, published by Cambridge, are the most direct source of these patterns. A tutor who reads them before setting homework is worth more than one who simply works through a textbook.
Additional Mathematics is a separate IGCSE with two papers of two hours and 80 marks, the first without a calculator and the second with one, graded A* to E. It goes further into algebra, functions, calculus and trigonometry, and for a strong Extended student it is strong preparation for IB Analysis and Approaches or A Level maths. It also adds load in an already busy year, so the decision should be made with the school, not by default. If your child will continue to the Diploma, our IB maths tutor in Ahmedabad page explains what comes next.
Students who change to a Cambridge school in Ahmedabad usually arrive from the Gujarat board or from CBSE, and each brings habits that help and habits that hurt.
A month of bridging work, built around Cambridge-style questions and the non-calculator paper, usually settles the switch. Our article on moving from CBSE to IB or IGCSE and our comparison of Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE cover the wider choices.
| Period | Priority | Rhythm |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 9, first term | Number skills without a calculator; algebra basics; reading command words | One a week |
| Grade 9, later | Keeping pace with school topics; first full past paper; a view on the tier | One or two a week |
| Grade 10, first term | Weak topics from past papers; 0606 work if taken | Two a week |
| Grade 10, run-up to the series | Timed past papers in pairs, marked to the official markscheme; error log | Two or three a week |
Cambridge schools in Ahmedabad keep their own calendars, which rarely match the GSEB or CBSE dates your neighbours plan around. Uttarayan in mid-January takes a week out of most households' routine, so leave a buffer around it.

The non-calculator paper is the strongest argument for a tutor at the table: arithmetic slips are easiest to catch while the pencil is still moving. Past-paper review, on the other hand, works very well online, with the marked script shared on screen. Our Ahmedabad hub notes that online lessons open up teachers across India for IGCSE, which helps most for 0606 and for students in corridors without a metro. Many families settle on one home session for new topics and one online session for papers. Our guide to home and online tutors sets out the trade-offs.
Our demo class checklist has a fuller list.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For IGCSE maths, the tier, whether 0606 is included and how far the tutor travels affect where a fee lands, and every tutor's own rate is visible before you book. The pricing guide and home tuition fees in Ahmedabad give the background.

Core students sit Papers 1 and 3, each 90 minutes and 80 marks, with grades C to G available. Extended students sit Papers 2 and 4, each two hours and 100 marks, with grades A* to E. In both tiers one paper bans calculators and each paper is worth half the grade.
Usually because arithmetic has been handed to the calculator in class. Fractions, negatives, standard form and estimation then cost marks on a paper worth half the grade. A short daily routine of written arithmetic, plus a non-calculator set on each new topic, fixes most of it within a term.
It suits strong Extended students who plan to take IB Analysis and Approaches or A Level maths, because it goes further into algebra, functions and calculus. It is a separate IGCSE with two 80-mark papers and adds real workload, so decide with the school rather than by default.
The content is familiar; the style is not. GSEB students are often quick on objective questions but need practice with unstructured problems, shown working and the non-calculator paper, and some need maths terms in English. A month of bridging with Cambridge past questions usually settles the change.
Cambridge offers June and November series, and schools in India can also enter students in March. The school decides which one, and it sets how much time is left for past papers. Tell us the series when you request a tutor so the plan fits the real deadline.
Yes, especially for past-paper review and for 0606, where specialists are fewer. For the non-calculator paper, the tutor must see written working, so use a second camera on the notebook. Many Ahmedabad families combine a weekly home session for new topics with an online session for papers.
