Home Tuition in East Ahmedabad: An Area-by-Area Guide
East of the Sabarmati, Ahmedabad is a city of long-settled neighbourhoods and fast-growing suburbs side by side. Maninagar, Kankaria, Shahibaug and Asarwa have been lived in for generations, Bapunagar and Amraiwadi grew around the city's mills, and Nikol and Vastral have filled with new apartment buildings along the outer ring road. For a home tutor, that mix means one visit may be a knock on a door in a busy lane and the next a sign-in at a society gate.
This guide covers three zones: Maninagar, Isanpur and Kankaria; Nikol, Naroda and Bapunagar; and Shahibaug, Asarwa and Meghaninagar. It shows how tutors reach each area, by metro, train or road, what to expect at the door, and when to time a weekday class.
How do tutors travel across the east?
The first section of the Ahmedabad Metro opened in the east: Vastral Gam to Apparel Park on the Blue Line, on 4 March 2019, with Amraiwadi station following on 18 May 2019. The line was later extended through the old city and across the river to Thaltej, and Kankaria East opened to commuters on 5 March 2024. Railway stations at Maninagar, Naroda and Asarva fill many of the gaps the metro leaves.
| Zone | Stations tutors use | Typical homes | What to plan around |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maninagar, Isanpur and Kankaria | Maninagar and Vatva railway stations, Kankaria East and Apparel Park on the Blue Line | Older independent houses, low-rise apartment buildings, newer flats | Market roads near Maninagar station in the evening |
| Nikol, Naroda and Bapunagar | Vastral Gam, Nirant Cross Road, Vastral, Rabari Colony, Amraiwadi and Apparel Park; Naroda railway station | New apartment buildings near the ring road, older houses in dense lanes | Shift changes near the industrial estates and ring road traffic |
| Shahibaug, Asarwa and Meghaninagar | Asarva railway station; Kalupur within reach | Spacious apartments, older homes, lower- to mid-budget housing | Evening traffic on Airport Road and towards the old city |
Maninagar, Isanpur and Kankaria
Kankaria Lake, completed in 1451, is the landmark of this zone, and its redeveloped lakefront was inaugurated on 25 December 2008. Maninagar railway station, on the Western Railway main line, has a footbridge to the BRTS bus station, and Maninagar is the city's entrance to the Ahmedabad to Vadodara expressway. Isanpur, once a village beside the city, now sits in its South Zone.
- Maninagar: the railway line splits the locality into two parts, so tell the tutor which side you live on. Older houses on market streets mean a doorstep visit; apartment blocks, including newer flats towards New Maninagar, may ask for a name at the gate. An earlier after-school slot avoids the evening crowd near the station.
- Kankaria: older houses and apartment buildings on the streets running to the lake. Kankaria East, an underground Blue Line station, links the area with Kalupur to the west and Apparel Park to the east. Roads around the lake are busy on Sundays, holidays and during the December carnival.
- Khokhra: grew around textile mills, most since closed, and has a strong community character. Independent houses mean a doorstep visit, while newer buildings keep a register. Maninagar railway station and the Apparel Park and Amraiwadi metro stations are all nearby.
- Isanpur: mostly low-rise apartment buildings, so tutors usually reach the flat door without a long gate process. Maninagar and Vatva railway stations serve the area, with autos for the last stretch.
- Ghodasar: a quiet locality of flats and a few independent houses beside Isanpur, Khokhra and Narol. There is no metro station, so tutors come by road; a fixed weekday slot agreed in advance helps with evening traffic towards Maninagar.
Nikol, Naroda and Bapunagar
The outer ring road, opened in 2004, passes Naroda, Nikol, Odhav, Vastral and Ramol on the east side, and much of the newer housing in Nikol and Vastral sits along it. Naroda railway station, in the Naroda GIDC area, is on the line towards Udaipur. Naroda itself has two parts: Juna Naroda, the old village core, and Nava Naroda, the newer residential side.
- Nikol: mostly apartment buildings, including newer high-rises near the ring road, with a sizeable stock of independent houses. Tutors on the metro use Vastral Gam or Rabari Colony and finish by auto. Confirm visitor parking with the society before the demo.
- Naroda: in Juna Naroda many homes open straight onto the lane, while Nava Naroda has more societies with gate entry. There is no metro station, and traffic from the industrial estate peaks at shift and office times, so mid-evening lessons are usually smoother.
- Bapunagar: set up in the early 1960s as housing for textile mill workers, it later became a major diamond-cutting centre. Housing is dense, so most visits are doorstep visits in narrow lanes, and a two-wheeler or auto is more practical than a car.
- Vastral: has three Blue Line stations, Vastral Gam, Nirant Cross Road and Vastral, all opened in March 2019. Most homes are apartment buildings, many newly built, where visitors sign in at the gate.
- Odhav: built around the Odhav GIDC estate, with apartment buildings, independent houses and some villas spreading towards Vastral. Odhav Road leads to the nearest metro stations in Amraiwadi. Keep lessons away from shift-change hours.
- Amraiwadi: an old, densely populated neighbourhood whose history goes back to a 15th-century royal garden. Former mill chawls, older homes and newer flats stand together, and Amraiwadi, Apparel Park and Rabari Colony stations are close by.
Shahibaug, Asarwa and Meghaninagar
This zone lies on the east bank in the north-central part of the city. Shahibaug takes its name from a royal garden palace built in 1622 on the bank of the Sabarmati. Asarva railway station, with three platforms, is one of the main stations on the line towards Udaipur. The metro does not run through the zone itself, so most tutors come by road, and the nearest stations are on the Blue Line.
- Shahibaug: a long-established residential district, with many spacious three- and four-bedroom flats. Expect a gate entry and a quick call to the family. Riverfront Road and Airport Road are the main links, and a late-afternoon slot avoids the evening build-up.
- Asarwa: older independent homes and mid-income apartment buildings next to Shahibaug. Asarva railway station serves the neighbourhood, and Camp Road and the bridges link it with the west bank. Traffic is heavy through the day, so agree an evening time in advance.
- Meghaninagar: lower- to mid-budget independent houses and apartment buildings, lived in by owners and tenants. There is no metro station; Asarva railway station and an auto ride are the usual route. A mid-evening lesson avoids the office-hour traffic towards Naroda Road.
When should a weekday class start in East Ahmedabad?
- After school, before the market rush. Near Maninagar station, the Bapunagar market and the main roads of Amraiwadi, a slot soon after school is the easiest to keep.
- Away from shift changes. Around the Naroda and Odhav industrial estates, a mid-evening lesson avoids the heaviest traffic.
- Weekday evenings near the lake. In Kankaria, weekday evenings or weekend mornings avoid the Sunday and holiday crowds, and online classes work as a backup on carnival days.
How NXTutors can help
Share your locality, your child's class, board and the subject that needs help. We come back with two or three matched tutors: those living closest first, then tutors elsewhere in your zone, then across Ahmedabad, and online tutors from anywhere in India if needed. Every fee is on the profile before the demo, the first class costs nothing, and a later change of tutor is free. Frequently asked questions
Which parts of East Ahmedabad have a metro station?
In East Ahmedabad, Vastral, Amraiwadi and Kankaria have Blue Line stations, and Apparel Park and Rabari Colony serve the areas around them. Vastral alone has three: Vastral Gam, Nirant Cross Road and Vastral. Maninagar, Isanpur, Naroda, Asarwa and Meghaninagar rely on railway stations and roads, so tutors finish by auto or come by two-wheeler.
Will a tutor come straight to the door in Bapunagar or Amraiwadi?
Yes, in Bapunagar and Amraiwadi a tutor usually comes straight to the door, because both are dense, older neighbourhoods where many homes open onto the lane. Newer apartment blocks may have gate entry. Parking a car is hard in the narrow lanes, so a tutor on a two-wheeler or by auto is often more practical.
When is the easiest time for a home class near Maninagar?
Near Maninagar, the easiest time for a home class is an earlier after-school slot, before the evening crowd fills the market roads around the railway station. Traffic also builds on the main roads from Isanpur and Ghodasar. Tell the tutor which side of the railway line you live on, since the line splits Maninagar into two parts.
Is Shahibaug easy for tutors to reach?
Shahibaug is easy for tutors to reach by road, with Riverfront Road and Airport Road as the main links and Kalupur within reach. The metro does not run through the zone itself, so most tutors come by road. Homes are mostly flats with gate entry, so share the tutor's name beforehand; a late-afternoon slot avoids the evening build-up.
How much does home tuition cost in East Ahmedabad?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The fee is set by each tutor in East Ahmedabad and shown to you before the free demo class.
Should classes in Naroda and Odhav avoid shift changes?
Yes, classes in Naroda and Odhav should avoid shift changes, because traffic from the industrial estates peaks at shift and office times. A mid-evening lesson is usually smoother. Naroda has no metro station, while Odhav Road leads to the Amraiwadi stations; Nava Naroda societies use gate entry, and in Juna Naroda many homes open onto the lane.
