Class 10 home tutors in Ahmedabad: the SSC first, then CBSE, ICSE and IGCSE

For a state-board student in Ahmedabad, Class 10 means the SSC, set by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board in Gandhinagar. Classmates in other schools are heading for CBSE or ICSE board papers, or for IGCSE at the end of Grade 10. The exams differ in structure, in medium and in what they reward, so a good tutor is chosen for the paper your child will actually sit. Abhinandan Tiwary, who writes on Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and Aaditya Kashyap, who writes on CBSE and ICSE science, set out how the SSC is organised, what happens after the result, how the other boards compare, which subjects repay a tutor, how to plan the year and how to keep a tutor coming every week until the last paper.

How is the Gujarat board's SSC organised?

The board's website runs the whole SSC cycle: exam registration, hall tickets, entry of internal and practical marks by schools, results, and afterwards marks verification and a supplementary sitting. In 2026 the main SSC examination was held in the February–March session. The board's archive of past papers shows how the subjects are set out, with each subject paper issued separately for Gujarati, English and Hindi medium:

SSC subjects as they appear in the board's past-paper archive (subject code in brackets)
SubjectPapers in the archiveWhere a tutor helps most
MathematicsStandard Maths (12) and Basic Maths (18), each in three mediaChoosing the right level, then full written steps in every answer
Science (11)One science paper per mediumNumericals, chemical equations and diagrams drawn and labelled from memory
Social Science (10)One paper per mediumA revision routine and map practice; rarely needs a full-time tutor
LanguagesFirst-language papers such as Gujarati (01) and English (04); second-language papers such as Gujarati (13), Hindi (14) and English (16); Sanskrit (17)Writing tasks and grammar for a student whose medium is not the home language

Two practical points follow. First, internal and practical marks are entered by the school, so a tutor should keep an eye on practical work and assignments rather than leave them to the last week. Second, the board links a subject-wise question bank for Std 9 to 12, and past papers sit on its e-service site; a good SSC tutor works through both, in your child's medium. The exam pattern and timetable should always be taken from the board's own notices in the year you sit. Our Gujarat Board tutors in Ahmedabad page covers the board across classes.

What happens after the SSC result?

Results are published on the board's result site. After that, three services matter to families. Students can apply for verification of marks, known on the board's site as gunchakasani, and the board publishes the replies online. A student who needs another attempt can register for the purak, or supplementary, examination that the board holds later in the year. And certificates such as a migration certificate or a duplicate marksheet are applied for through the board's e-service portal. Check each step and its deadline on gseb.org when your result arrives. The next stage, choosing a stream for Std 11, is covered on our Class 11 home tutors in Ahmedabad page.

What if the board is CBSE, ICSE or IGCSE?

The other Class 10 routes Ahmedabad students take

ICSEMaths: one three-hour, 80-mark paper and 20 internal marksA broad syllabus in every subject; complete working is expected

Which Class 10 subjects repay a tutor?

One tutor can manage maths and science together if both are only slightly behind. If one is clearly weak, or the target is high, a specialist for that subject is the better use of the budget.

A workable week for a student with one maths-and-science tutor might be two ninety-minute visits, one on a weekday after school and one on Saturday or Sunday morning, plus about forty minutes a day of independent practice set by the tutor. Before each visit the student marks the questions they could not do; the session starts there, not with new teaching. Once full papers begin in winter, one visit a week becomes a timed paper, and the next visit goes through it question by question. Keep the weekly total of tuition hours modest: a Class 10 student needs time to practise alone, and an evening filled with back-to-back tutors leaves none.

How should the board year be planned?

Our Ahmedabad city page gives the rule of thumb: finish chapters and chapter tests by early winter, then switch to full timed papers. CBSE schools start in April, and state-board and other schools follow their own calendars, so adjust the months to your school:

  1. First weeks of the session: download the subject patterns and sample material from your board's site, test Class 9 basics, and fix the largest gaps.
  2. Until Navratri: steady chapter-by-chapter teaching, a weekly test and a mistakes notebook; keep practicals and assignments up to date.
  3. Diwali break: close the syllabus, or as near as possible, and revise the first-term chapters.
  4. Winter: full papers under time, marked in the board's style, with the question bank used for weak chapters; plan around Uttarayan in mid-January.
  5. Final weeks: revise from the mistakes notebook, follow the official timetable and add no new material.

Home or online for the board year?

For SSC and CBSE maths and science, a tutor beside the student sees each line of working, and that is where the marks are. Online widens the choice for ICSE and IGCSE specialists who may live across the river, and saves a long evening ride to Shela or Vastral. It only works for maths if the tutor can watch your child write. A pattern many families find workable: one longer home session at the weekend and a shorter online session midweek, with the same tutor throughout.

How to use the free Class 10 demo

  1. Ask how the paper is set. An SSC tutor should know your child's medium, the Standard or Basic maths choice and the internal marks; a CBSE tutor the second-exam option; an IGCSE tutor the tier.
  2. Hand over a recent test and ask which mistakes are costing the most marks.
  3. Watch the checking: is every step looked at, or only the answer?
  4. Choose an unfamiliar question and see whether the tutor explains the thinking or simply solves it.
  5. Ask for a month-by-month plan that says when full papers begin.

The first lesson costs nothing. If the fit is wrong, a second tutor from the shortlist can take a demo, and switching mid-year is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check before the Verified badge appears, and our demo class checklist lists more questions.

Fees for Class 10 tuition in Ahmedabad

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. In the board year, the board, the number of subjects, the tutor's experience with that paper, the journey at your hour and the number of sessions a week all move the quote. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it on the shortlist before booking. See our pricing guide and home tuition fees in Ahmedabad.

Where we match Class 10 tutors in Ahmedabad

Navrangpura, one of the first areas to grow outside the walled city, has SP Stadium and Commerce Six Road stations, and Old High Court nearby links both metro lines. Bodakdev pairs gated towers with bungalow streets along SG Highway; inform the gate before the tutor's first visit. Chandkheda, which joined the municipal corporation in 2008, has housing board societies and company colonies along New CG Road, with Motera Stadium station next door.

Kankaria rings the city's largest lake, and Kankaria East station on the Blue Line opened in March 2024. Vastral has three Blue Line stations of its own, opened in 2019, so a tutor can ride from the west bank. And Meghaninagar, a lower- to mid-budget area of houses and flats, is reached by road, with Asarva the nearest rail stop.

Before the board year, see Class 9 tutors in Ahmedabad. Share the board, medium, subjects, locality and free evenings, and two or three suitable tutors come back with fees. You can also request a free demo, browse tutor profiles, or start from home tutors in Ahmedabad.

Class 10 Home Tutor in Ahmedabad: common questions

How do I find a Class 10 home tutor in Ahmedabad?

To find a Class 10 home tutor in Ahmedabad, share the board, medium, subjects, your locality and the evenings you have free. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

How much does a Class 10 home tutor cost in Ahmedabad?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For Class 10 in Ahmedabad, the board, number of subjects, the tutor's experience with that paper, the journey at your hour and weekly sessions set the quote.

Who conducts the Class 10 SSC exam for Ahmedabad students?

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, based in Gandhinagar, conducts the Class 10 SSC exam that Ahmedabad state-board students sit. Its website handles registration, hall tickets, internal and practical marks, results, marks verification and the supplementary exam. In 2026 the main sitting was in the February–March session; take the current timetable from gseb.org.

Is SSC maths offered at two levels in Gujarat?

Yes, Ahmedabad SSC students choose between two Class 10 maths levels, Standard Maths and Basic Maths, each set in Gujarati, English and Hindi medium. The board's past-paper archive lists them as separate papers. Ask the school when the choice must be declared; a student planning science with maths in Std 11 should usually aim for Standard.

What can an Ahmedabad student do after the SSC result?

After the SSC result, an Ahmedabad student can apply to the Gujarat board for verification of marks, called gunchakasani, or register for the purak supplementary exam. Certificates such as a migration certificate or a duplicate marksheet are applied for on the board's e-service portal. Check each step and its deadline on gseb.org.

Will there be two CBSE Class 10 board exams in 2027?

Since 2026, Ahmedabad CBSE schools have had two Class 10 board exams: a compulsory main exam and an optional second to improve up to three subjects. Dates for 2027 had not been published when this page was written, so check cbse.gov.in before planning revision around either sitting.

Can one Ahmedabad tutor teach both maths and science in Class 10?

One Ahmedabad tutor can teach both Class 10 maths and science if both subjects are only slightly behind and the tutor is strong in each. If one is clearly weak, or the target is high, a specialist is better value. A workable week is two ninety-minute visits plus about forty minutes a day of independent practice.

When should a Class 10 student in Ahmedabad start with a tutor?

A Class 10 student in Ahmedabad should start with a tutor in the opening weeks of the session: April for CBSE schools, or the first month of your school's calendar. That leaves time to repair Class 9 gaps before Navratri and Diwali. Finish chapters by early winter, then switch to full timed papers.

Is home or online tuition better for Class 10 in Ahmedabad?

For SSC and CBSE Class 10 maths and science in Ahmedabad, a tutor beside the student usually works better, because they see each line of working. Online widens the choice of ICSE and IGCSE specialists across the river and saves a long ride to Shela or Vastral. Many families pair a weekend home session with a short online one midweek.

Do you have ICSE and IGCSE Class 10 tutors in Ahmedabad?

Yes, Ahmedabad families can request ICSE and IGCSE Class 10 tutors, matched to the CISCE papers or to the exact IGCSE syllabus and tier. Examples are Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, or Edexcel Foundation or Higher. These specialists are fewer, so combining home and online lessons often widens the choice.

How should we use the free Class 10 demo in Ahmedabad?

Use the free Class 10 demo in Ahmedabad to ask how your child's paper is set, from SSC maths level to the IGCSE tier. For SSC that means medium and level; for CBSE, the second exam. Hand over a recent test, watch whether every step is checked, and ask for a month-by-month plan that says when full papers begin.
