Home Tuition in BHEL and Old Bhopal: Piplani to Bairagarh

By NXTutors Academic Team 8 min read

East and north of the centre, Bhopal looks like two different cities. To the east lies the BHEL township, planned around the public sector engineering plant in neighbourhoods of sectors, with newer colonies spreading along Ayodhya Bypass. To the north and west, the old city climbs from the Upper Lake into narrow lanes and bazaars, and the settled colonies of Kohefiza and Lalghati lead out to Bairagarh near the airport.

Neither side is on the open section of the metro yet, so tutors mostly come by two-wheeler or car. This guide covers two zones, BHEL, Awadhpuri & Ayodhya Bypass and Old City, Lalghati & Bairagarh, locality by locality, then looks at directions, timing and what the planned metro lines will change.

How do the two zones differ?

BHEL, Awadhpuri & Ayodhya Bypass

The BHEL township covers a large area on the eastern side of the city, with parks, community halls, a library, shopping centres and banks built into its neighbourhoods. Around it, colonies of independent houses, apartments and villas have grown along Ayodhya Bypass, the arterial road linking the Hoshangabad Road side with Raisen Road and Vidisha Road.

  • Piplani: one of the township's neighbourhoods and home to the BHEL factory and offices. Housing is mainly company quarters in numbered sectors, with private houses and flats in colonies such as Anand Nagar and Regal Town nearby. Give the sector and quarter number, and check shift timings before fixing a slot.
  • Govindpura: a township neighbourhood with a large industrial estate of units supplying BHEL, plus residential sectors of quarters and private colonies. MP Nagar station on the Orange Line helps tutors coming from the city centre. Industrial traffic peaks at shift times, so plan around the start and end of the working day.
  • Indrapuri: a residential locality next to the township, known for sectors such as Indrapuri C Sector, with mostly independent houses and some newer apartment projects. It is ringed by Piplani, Govindpura, Sonagiri and Ayodhya Nagar, so tutors from all of them can reach it without a long ride.
  • Awadhpuri: a mid-range locality of two- and three-bedroom houses, apartments and villas, with Regal Town, Rishipuram and Anand Nagar as neighbours. The rail and metro lines do not reach this side, so tutors living in Piplani, Awadhpuri and the Ayodhya Bypass colonies are the easiest to schedule.
  • Ayodhya Bypass: colonies such as Ayodhya Nagar along the arterial road, now a major residential belt of large apartment projects, villas, builder floors and houses. The road is being widened, so choose a tutor on your side of it where possible. Ratnagiri Tiraha is the planned eastern end of the Blue Line, which is still being built.
  • Saket Nagar: a residential suburb on the southern side, next to the township, with Shakti Nagar and Alkapuri as neighbours; many residents are retired BHEL employees. Alkapuri station on the open Orange Line section and Rani Kamlapati railway station are close, so tutors can come by metro from MP Nagar.

Old City, Lalghati & Bairagarh

North of the Upper Lake, the old city is a tightly built area of narrow lanes, old houses and bazaars such as Chowk Bazaar and Sarafa. West of it, housing colonies run along VIP Road, the four-lane road beside the lake towards the airport, and on to Bairagarh on the city's western edge.

  • Old City: mostly older family houses in dense lanes, many above or behind shops, in quarters such as Ibrahimpura and the Peer Gate area. Cars cannot reach many doors, so tutors park where the lane narrows and walk. Bhopal Junction and the Nadra Bus Stand are close, both planned stations on the unopened northern part of the Orange Line. Afternoon slots avoid the evening market crowds.
  • Idgah Hills: a residential hill area just above the old city, with independent houses, apartments, builder floors and a few villas, many with views over the city and lakes. Roads climb and wind, so tutors come by two-wheeler or car; share the building name and a landmark.
  • Kohefiza: an established area of housing colonies and housing board properties near the Upper Lake and VIP Road, with Lalghati, Khanugaon and Idgah Hills nearby. Most homes are houses or small buildings with doorstep access and manageable parking.
  • Lalghati: a mid-range area along the Upper Lake between Kohefiza and Bairagarh, with apartments, houses and villa projects by city-based builders. Airport Road and Bairagarh Road connect it to Mubarikpur, Kohefiza and Nayapura. Lalghati Chouraha is a busy junction, so time arrivals around the evening rush.
  • Bairagarh: a suburb on the western edge near the Upper Lake and the airport, since officially renamed; its railway station on the Bhopal to Ujjain line took the new name in 2018. It grew into a busy market town of close-set lanes, independent houses and newer apartment buildings. A shop or temple landmark helps on the first visit.

How should we give directions in each zone?

  1. Township sectors: in Piplani and Govindpura, give the sector and quarter number, because the township uses numbers rather than street names. Parking is generally easy.
  2. Colonies and societies: in Indrapuri and Saket Nagar most homes are independent houses with direct access; in the larger projects on Ayodhya Bypass and in Awadhpuri, register the tutor at the gate.
  3. Old lanes: in the Old City and Bairagarh, name a market corner or shop where a scooter can be parked, and the lane to walk down.
  4. Hill roads: on Idgah Hills, the house or building name matters more than the road.

When should a weekday class start?

The two zones have opposite rhythms. In the east, traffic follows the working day: shift timings at the plant and the industrial estate bring peaks at the start and end of the day, and Ayodhya Bypass is heavy at office hours, so an evening slot set after that peak is easier. In the north and west, markets set the rhythm: Chowk Bazaar, Sarafa and the Bairagarh market streets are busiest in the evening, so an afternoon or early-evening class keeps time, while in Kohefiza and Lalghati a slot just before or after the rush on VIP Road works well.

What will the planned metro lines change?

Little, for now. The open Orange Line section serves Saket Nagar through Alkapuri station, and Govindpura through MP Nagar, but the rest of both zones is reached by road. The northern part of the Orange Line is planned through Pul Bogda, Aishbagh, Bhopal Railway Station and Nadra Bus Stand, and the Blue Line, still being built, is planned to end at Ratnagiri Tiraha on the eastern side. Until then, a tutor living in the same zone is the practical choice, with online classes for specialist subjects; our comparison of home and online tutors helps you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a metro station near BHEL or the old city?

Not on the open section, except near Saket Nagar, where Alkapuri station on the Orange Line is close. The northern Orange Line stations near the old city, such as Nadra Bus Stand, are planned but not open, and the Blue Line to Ratnagiri Tiraha is still being built.

How should we write an address in the BHEL township?

Give the sector and quarter number, plus a nearby landmark such as a park or shopping centre. The township's neighbourhoods, including Piplani and Govindpura, use sector and quarter numbers rather than street names. In quarters and private houses the tutor comes straight to the door, and parking is generally easy.

Can tutors reach homes in the old city lanes?

Yes, usually on a two-wheeler. Cars cannot reach many doors, so the tutor parks where the lane narrows and walks the last stretch. Sharing a landmark, such as a market corner in Chowk Bazaar or Sarafa, helps on the first visit. Afternoon slots avoid the evening crowds.

What class time suits Ayodhya Bypass and Awadhpuri?

An evening slot after office and shift times. Traffic on Ayodhya Bypass is heavy at those hours, so choose a tutor who lives on your side of the road, or in Piplani, Awadhpuri or Ayodhya Nagar, and set the class outside the peak. Online classes can cover a specialist subject.

How much does home tuition cost in BHEL and old Bhopal?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and NXTutors shows it before the free demo class, so you can compare quotes first.
