Home Tuition Fees in Leh (2026): Hours, Winter Plans and CBSE
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The same band applies whether your home is in an old-town lane behind the Main Bazaar, in Housing Colony, beside the highway at Choglamsar or among the fields at Thiksey.
Tutors set their own rates, and each matched tutor's rate is shown on NXTutors before you book the demo. So the useful work for a family in Leh is not haggling over a figure. It is deciding how many hours a child really needs, which slot a tutor can keep through the year, and how the plan changes when the long winter arrives.
Three questions to settle before you compare quotes
Answer these first, and every tutor ends up pricing the same job.
- What is the tuition for? Keeping up with schoolwork, catching up on earlier gaps, preparing for the Class 10 or Class 12 board papers, or entrance preparation alongside Class 12. Each needs a different kind of tutor and a different amount of planning.
- How many hours a week, and for how long? A clear number of visits and a length for each visit turns an hourly rate into something you can plan around.
- At home, online or both? In Leh this question matters more than in most cities, because the answer may change between the summer term and the coldest months.
What a tutor needs from you to quote properly
A short, complete request saves a round of messages and gives a quote that matches the real work. Include:
- Class and, for Classes 11–12, the stream. A Class 3 child learning to read fluently and a Class 12 student working through physics numericals are very different jobs.
- The board. In Leh this is usually CBSE; if your child follows another syllabus, say so plainly.
- Each subject by name. One tutor covering several junior subjects is a different arrangement from a specialist for one senior subject.
- The area and a landmark. Say whether you live in the town, in Choglamsar or Spituk, or in one of the villages along the Indus, and name the cluster if your village has several.
- The days and times that suit you, including whether a midday slot is possible in winter.
The NXTutors pricing guide sets out the general factors tutors weigh when they set a rate.
Does it matter where in Leh you live?
Not for the band. It matters for reach: how many tutors can get to your door at the time you want, week after week. Leh has no metro or railway, so tutors travel by two-wheeler or car, and in the old town they walk the last stretch. NXTutors groups the area into three zones.
| Zone | Localities | The reach question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Leh Town Centre | Main Bazaar & Old Town, Housing Colony, Changspa, Sankar | Can the tutor find the lane, and where does a vehicle stop? |
| Choglamsar, Spituk & West | Choglamsar, Saboo, Spituk, Phyang | Which road does the tutor take, through Spituk or through Saboo? |
| Indus Valley South & East | Stok, Chuchot, Shey, Thiksey | Does the tutor already teach nearby, so your home fits one round? |
Further out, you may see fewer home-visit quotes, not higher ones. A tutor who already teaches in Shey or Choglamsar can often add a Thiksey or Stok home to the same trip, which makes a regular slot far more likely to hold. The Leh home tuition guide goes through each locality.
CBSE in Leh: what the board means for the match
CBSE's own affiliation list carries Ladakh as a separate entry, and most of the affiliated schools it lists for Leh district are government high and higher secondary schools, in Leh town and in places such as Housing Colony, Stok, Phyang, Thiksey and Chuchot. Ladakh's School Education Department manages the government schools, and CBSE's regional office at Mohali covers Ladakh.
For fees, this has a simple consequence. The board rarely moves a rate on its own; what it does is narrow the field. A tutor who knows the CBSE books, the chapter order and the way answers are marked can start teaching from the first visit. Families should confirm the latest syllabus and exam rules on cbse.gov.in itself. For tutors familiar with this board, see CBSE home tutors in Leh.
Two timetables: the summer term and the winter months
Leh has long, cold winters, roughly from late November to early March, and schools take a long winter break. Many families therefore run two different tuition timetables in a year.
| Part of the year | What usually changes | What to agree with the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| Summer term | Roads and the bazaar are at their busiest, so early-morning or later evening slots tend to hold better | A fixed weekday slot with some margin around the busiest hours |
| Early winter | Evenings get dark and cold sooner, and some families move classes earlier in the day | Whether the slot moves, and whether its length stays the same |
| The long winter break | Many families switch to online classes, a midday home slot or a mix of both | Whether online classes carry the same rate as home visits |
| Before board papers | Senior students often add revision time | How many extra classes, which chapters, and when the extra hours end |
Very cold mornings and short days slow travel, so allow extra time and keep a simple rule for days when a home visit is not practical. Weighing up which subjects suit a screen? Read our home and online tutors comparison. An online tutor for Leh students can also cover a subject that no nearby tutor teaches.
Reading a quote: per hour, per class or per month
Quotes reach families in different units, and two that look different can describe the same work. Before comparing, put each one into the same shape:
- the unit (an hour, a class or a month);
- the length of each class, as clock times rather than "one class";
- the number of classes each week;
- whether homework is given and marked between visits;
- whether online and extra revision classes cost the same as regular ones.
If a quote gives a monthly sum but no count of classes, or talks of a "class" without saying how long it lasts, ask politely before you agree.
A message to send before the first paid class
A brief written message, answered by the tutor, does the job. Cover:
- How the fee is counted and when it is paid.
- The days, start time and length of each class.
- The address, with the lane, cluster or village name and a landmark the tutor can spot.
- Where a two-wheeler or car can stop near the house.
- How much notice each side gives to cancel, and how a missed class is made up.
- The winter plan: which classes move online or to midday, and from when.
- A review date, such as the first unit test, when you decide together whether to keep, add or reduce hours.
Is there anything to pay before the first class?
No. Every matched tutor's rate appears on NXTutors ahead of the demo, so if a figure does not work for you, that tutor can be dropped before anyone travels. The opening class with each tutor is a free demo. Choose a chapter your child struggles with, see how the tutor breaks it down, and then go through our demo class checklist for parents to weigh one tutor against another. Should the arrangement stop suiting your child later in the year, moving to a different tutor is free.
How NXTutors can help
Tell us your child's class, board and subjects and where in Leh you live. NXTutors then puts forward two or three matched tutors, looking first at those closest to your home, next across your zone and the wider town, and then online. You can also look through maths home tutors in Leh, along with tutors for science, physics, chemistry, biology and English. The Leh city page lists every locality, and when a shortlist feels right, book a free demo class. Teachers based in and around Leh will find open requests on the Leh tuition jobs page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a home tutor in Leh charge?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors choose their own rate, and you can read it on NXTutors ahead of the free demo.
Do villages outside the town pay more for home tuition?
No. The same band applies in Choglamsar, Stok, Phyang or Thiksey as in the town. What differs is the number of tutors able to get to a given home for a regular slot. A tutor already teaching nearby is usually the steadiest choice, and online classes can cover any subject no local tutor offers.
Should winter classes cost the same as summer ones?
That is for you and the tutor to agree, and it is worth settling at the start. Many Leh families move to online or midday classes in the long winter break. Decide when the change begins, whether class length stays the same, and whether an online class carries the home-visit rate.
Which board should I mention in the request?
Name the board your child's school follows, which in Leh is usually CBSE, along with the class and, for Classes 11–12, the stream. The board rarely changes a rate, but it decides which tutor fits, because a tutor who knows the CBSE books and marking can start teaching straight away.
Can we try a tutor before agreeing to pay?
Yes. You can read every matched tutor's rate on NXTutors in advance, and your first session with each one is a free demo, a chance to watch a hard chapter being taught. If things stop working out months later, you can move to another matched tutor at no cost, so nothing is locked in.
