Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A Salem student working towards JEE carries two loads at once. One is the school course, most often the Tamil Nadu State Board or CBSE, ending in a Class 12 paper that still matters for admissions. The other is the entrance syllabus, which asks for speed and accuracy on objective questions. A home tutor helps most when the family writes down, before the first session, exactly which part of the load that tutor is carrying. This page sets out how Salem families can do that: what the two papers ask, which jobs suit a tutor, how State Board answers differ from entrance answers, how tutors reach six localities in the east and south of the city, and what to test in the free demo. The national JEE home tutor page covers the exam itself in more depth.
The National Testing Agency holds JEE (Main). Under its 2026 bulletin, Paper 1 was taken on a computer and covered three subjects, maths, physics and chemistry, with 25 questions in each: 20 of the multiple-choice kind and 5 needing a numerical answer. Seventy-five questions made up 300 marks. Every correct response added four marks and every incorrect one took one away, whichever type it was. Candidates could sit two sessions and keep the higher score, in any of 13 languages. JEE (Advanced) is set by the IITs for those who qualify through Main as its brochure lays down. For 2026 that brochure listed two papers, both compulsory, offered in English and Hindi, with no more than two tries, and those in back-to-back years.
Treat this as a summary of the 2026 documents only. Each year, open the fresh bulletin on jeemain.nta.nic.in and the fresh brochure on jeeadv.ac.in, and plan from those.
"Help with JEE" is too wide a brief for one weekly hour. There are four jobs a tutor can own well, and most Salem families need one or two of them, not all four.
| Job | What the tutor does | Suits a student who |
|---|---|---|
| Weak-subject rebuild | Takes the one subject that lags back to its base chapters and works forward, with problems set between sessions | Is sound in two subjects and shaky in the third |
| Doubt clearing | Works through the questions the student marked as stuck, asking first what was tried | Attends a coaching class or studies from a book set |
| Paper practice and review | Sets timed papers from past NTA papers and sorts every lost mark by cause | Has finished most of the syllabus |
| Board guard | Keeps the State Board or CBSE written answers, practical records and school tests on track | Is spending most evenings on entrance work |
Write the chosen job into the request. It changes which tutor we match: a teacher who is strong at building concepts from the ground up is not always the same person who is sharp at reviewing a timed paper. The coaching or home tutor guide was written for another city, but its way of dividing the work holds in Salem too.
For a State Board student, the clash is not mainly about content. It is about the style of answer. The Directorate of Government Examinations publishes its past papers in an online question bank, and the March 2026 first-year papers show the shape clearly. Mathematics was a 90-mark paper: 20 one-mark items, then seven 2-mark and seven 3-mark answers chosen from longer lists, each list with one compulsory question, and finally seven 5-mark answers. Physics and chemistry were 70-mark papers built the same way on a smaller scale, ending in five 5-mark answers. The bank holds the matching second-year (+2) papers as well.
So the board rewards complete written working, set out in steps, with every chapter covered because of the fixed questions. JEE rewards fast, accurate choice under negative marking. A tutor working with a State Board student should run both habits side by side: one full written answer per session in board style, and a short timed set of objective questions on the same chapter. Our Tamil Nadu State Board tutors in Salem page explains the board papers in detail.
The Directorate prints its board papers in a Tamil and English version, so many Salem students meet science terms in both languages at school. The entrance paper is a separate question. Look up the language list in the current JEE Main bulletin, decide which language your child will sit the paper in, and stick with it from Class 11. A tutor can explain in whichever language helps, but the formula sheet, the glossary and every timed practice set should be in the paper language. If your child switched from Tamil medium to English medium after Class 10, say so in the request; a tutor who teaches the English term beside the Tamil one saves weeks of confusion.
The slot matters as much as the tutor. Lay the school timetable, any class timetable and family commitments side by side, and look for the hour that never moves. The table shows the patterns that tend to hold.
| Slot | Use it for | Salem point |
|---|---|---|
| Early morning before school | The weak-subject rebuild, at home | Main roads in the busier central lanes are quieter before the shops open |
| Saturday or Sunday morning | A timed paper, with its review straight after | Suits families in Shevapet or Gugai who keep a shop open on weekday evenings |
| Late evening | A short online doubt session | Nobody has to cross the bypass or the centre after dark |
| Board practical weeks | Board work only | Keeps the tutor from adding new chapters when school is busiest |
The central and eastern localities are within reach of tutors from most of the city, while the southern side is organised around the Salem bypass and its junctions.
| Locality | Where the tutor tends to set out from | Details worth sharing in advance |
|---|---|---|
| Ammapet | From Gugai, Ponnammapet or Hasthampatti, since it borders all three | Both spellings (Ammapet and Ammapettai) and the nearest junction on the main road |
| Gugai | From almost anywhere, as it sits near the Old Bus Stand at the heart of the town routes | A shop sign on your lane, and the floor if the home is above a shop |
| Kondalampatti | Along the bypass from the south-west, or from Ammapet | Which side of the bypass you live on, and the roundabout to start from |
| Seelanaickenpatti | Via the bypass junction of the same name | A location link checked to open on your street |
| Kitchipalayam | From the Trichy Main Road side or Annathanapatti | Whether you are on the main road side or deeper inside the locality |
| Narasothipatti | From Suramangalam, Mamangam or Azad Nagar on the western side | The layout name and a nearby shop or park |
The Ammapet and Shevapet and Kondalampatti and Seelanaickenpatti zone pages say more about timing on each side, every locality is listed on the Salem home tutors page, and the Salem home tuition guide goes zone by zone.
| Subject | Usual format | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Physics | At home | Most errors begin in the set-up of a problem, which the tutor needs to watch on paper |
| Mathematics | At home, reviews online | Long working by hand; going over a completed paper works well with a shared screen |
| Chemistry | Recall checks online; numericals at the table | Quick, regular quizzes on reactions and periodic trends work well on a call |
When the problems get hard, the right teacher may live in Chennai, Coimbatore or another state, and online lessons bring that teacher into a Salem home. The one condition is that the tutor can watch the working: a phone clipped above the notebook, or a writing tablet, does the job. More on this in our online tutors for Salem guide and the home or online tutor comparison.
Mechanics, early calculus and the mole concept all land in the same term. Start an error notebook in the first month and keep it going. Ask the school how Class 11 is assessed for your child's batch; the question bank carries +1 papers, and every +2 chapter leans on this year's work.
Fresh chapters, a second pass through +1 work, practical records, the board papers and the entrance all want the same months. In the first fortnight, ask the tutor to block out on a calendar the weeks kept for board writing.
Go back over last year's papers one question at a time and list the chapters that cost marks; that list is the syllabus for the first months. Check the eligibility rules in this year's documents before committing.
For subject-wise plans, read the JEE physics tutor page and our chapter guides for maths, physics and chemistry. For school-side help, see our Salem maths, physics and chemistry pages.
If it does not feel right, tell us and another demo is set up; changing tutor later costs nothing. Our checklist for parents at a demo has further questions.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors price their own sessions, and the fee is on view before any demo is booked. To compare quotes sensibly, see the pricing guide and our article on home tuition fees in Salem.
A request needs the class, board, medium, the job for the tutor, the hours your child is free and your locality with a landmark. NXTutors then suggests two or three matched tutors, and the first class with any of them is a free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how ID checks work). Profiles can be read on the tutors page. Planning for medicine instead? A Salem family should write the class, board, medium, the one job the tutor should own, the free hours and the locality with a landmark. NXTutors replies with two or three matched tutors, each fee visible beforehand. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
A JEE home tutor in Salem works well with one named job: rebuilding the weakest subject, clearing marked doubts, setting and reviewing timed papers, or guarding the board side. Most students need one or two of these, and naming the job helps us match a tutor whose strengths fit it.
Tamil Nadu State Board +1 papers reward full written working, while JEE rewards fast, accurate choices. In the March 2026 first-year papers, maths carried 90 marks ending in seven 5-mark answers, and physics and chemistry carried 70 marks ending in five. A tutor should practise both styles on each chapter.
A Tamil-medium student in Salem can choose the paper language from the list in the current JEE Main bulletin, which offered 13 languages in 2026. Decide early, then keep the glossary and every timed practice set in that language. A tutor may explain in Tamil and English side by side.
JEE tutors reach Kondalampatti and Seelanaickenpatti along the Salem bypass and Kitchipalayam from the Trichy Main Road side. Say which side of the bypass you live on, start directions from the roundabout, and send a location link that you have checked opens on your street.
Yes, a Salem student can learn JEE physics online from a tutor in Chennai, Coimbatore or elsewhere, as long as the tutor can see every line of working. A phone clipped above the notebook or a writing tablet does that. A workable split keeps maths and physics at home and moves chemistry recall online.
A Salem JEE student should ease off entrance work in the State Board practical weeks and in the run-up to the theory papers. Practicals come first, so records must be ready. Check the current timetable on dge.tn.gov.in, and ask the tutor to mark those weeks on a calendar early in Class 12.
A tutor who teaches in Ammapet or Gugai can usually also reach Ponnammapet and Shevapet, since these central localities border one another. That widens the choice for a JEE subject specialist. Share both spellings of the area, a shop sign on your lane and the floor if you live above a shop.
