The Directorate's question bank shows how State Board biology is examined. In the March 2026 first-year papers, Biology was one 70-mark paper in two halves, Bio-Botany and Bio-Zoology, each with eight one-mark items, four 2-mark, three 3-mark and two 5-mark answers. Botany and Zoology were also set as separate 70-mark papers for students who take them as two subjects. The papers ask for written explanation and labelled diagrams in pencil.
NEET asks for none of that writing, but it asks for precise recall across the NCERT-based units. The first job for a tutor is therefore a chapter map, built in the first weeks:

Booking one tutor for "all of NEET" tends to leave the weakest subject short of time. Name the subjects separately in the request, and say which half of chemistry costs your child marks.

Under the 2026 bulletin a candidate could take the booklet in English, in Hindi with English, or in English together with a regional language, across thirteen languages. A Salem student taught science in Tamil medium is often torn between a Tamil-and-English booklet and English alone. Check which languages the current bulletin lists, decide by the start of Class 11, and keep every glossary and practice set in that choice. The 2026 sitting used pen and paper, so mock papers at home should copy that: printed questions, a separate answer sheet, the phone in another room, one unbroken sitting. Once a paper is marked, the tutor logs per subject the questions got wrong, those skipped, and where the clock beat the student. With a mark lost for every wrong answer, settle on a rule for leaving doubtful questions and stick to it. Three or four logs are usually enough to tell whether the gap is in what the student knows, in care, or in speed, and the plan should shift to match.
