Salem Home Tuition Guide: Fairlands, Hasthampatti, Suramangalam, Ammapet and Kondalampatti
Salem City Municipal Corporation runs the city through four zonal offices, at Suramangalam, Hasthampatty, Ammapet and Kondalampatty, and NXTutors groups localities in a similar way, with one change: the western and north-western belt around Fairlands and Alagapuram gets a zone of its own, because it sits between the Central Bus Stand and the road north to Hasthampatti and its localities lie close together. That gives five zones and nineteen localities. This guide goes through each one: what to put in the address, which reference point a tutor will know, and which time of day tends to keep a weekly class running.
Reference points tutors in Salem know
Many tutors travel by two-wheeler, so a known reference point saves more time than a long postal address. Four work across the city. Salem Junction stands on Junction Main Road in Suramangalam. The Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G.R. Central Bus Stand, which people call the New Bus Stand, is on Omalur Main Road, the road that links the centre with National Highway 44 towards Bengaluru. The Town Bus Terminus, still called the Old Bus Stand, serves routes inside the city. And on the southern and eastern sides, the junctions of the Salem bypass, such as Kondalampatti and Seelanaickenpatti, are what residents name first.
| Zone | Reference point | Lead the address with | Where a first visit goes wrong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fairlands & Alagapuram | New Bus Stand, Omalur Main Road | Fairlands or New Fairlands; the layout name | Layouts with similar names |
| Hasthampatti & Kannankurichi | Yercaud Main Road, Kannankurichi Main Road | The road your street leaves from | Busy main roads in office hours |
| Suramangalam & Jagir Ammapalayam | Salem Junction, Junction Main Road | Old Suramangalam or the Junction road side | Outlying layouts without a location link |
| Ammapet & Shevapet | Old Bus Stand, the Ammapet bypass | A shop sign and the floor | Narrow, crowded lanes by day |
| Kondalampatti & Seelanaickenpatti | Bypass junctions, Trichy Main Road | Which side of the bypass you live on | Similar-sounding street names |
Fairlands & Alagapuram: the western residential belt
Four localities sit close together here, between the Central Bus Stand and the main road that runs north to Hasthampatti. State Highway 188, Sarada College Road, crosses this side on a two-tier flyover. Distances are short, so a tutor from one of these four can usually teach in another the same afternoon.
Fairlands
Fairlands lies on the road joining New Bus Stand Main Road with Sarada College Main Road. Residents still split it into Fairlands and New Fairlands, so say which one first. Homes include independent houses and flats; for a flat, add the block and floor after the street and door number.
Alagapuram
Alagapuram opens onto the main road between Fairlands and Hasthampatti, with Arun Nagar and Rajarajan Nagar among its neighbours. Several layouts on this side carry similar names, so put the nagar or layout name before the street.
Swarnapuri
Swarnapuri is a compact neighbourhood close to the New Bus Stand and Omalur Main Road. Lanes run close together, so the door number and the cross street help more than a general landmark.
Meyyanur
Meyyanur sits next to Fairlands, Angammal Colony and Suramangalam, and residents usually mention the New Bus Stand when they explain where they live. The main road stays busy for much of the day, so send a location link with the lane name to save the tutor from asking around.
Hasthampatti & Kannankurichi: the north, below the Yercaud hills
The city police treat Hasthampatti, Kannankurichi and Alagapuram as one range, and residents see this northern side in much the same way. At the city's edge, families often pair a nearby home tutor with online lessons.
Hasthampatti
Hasthampatti, also written Hastampatti or Hasthampatty, gives its name to one of the corporation's four zonal offices. Yercaud Main Road passes through it, and MDS Nagar and Arun Nagar are close by. Say which road your street leaves from, and fix lessons after office hours or at weekends.
Kannankurichi
Kannankurichi is a panchayat town in Salem taluk at the foothills of the Yercaud hills. Start directions from Kannankurichi Main Road or from Chinna Thirupathi, then add the street and door number. The right subject tutor may live further into the city, so ask whether a mix of home and online classes would suit.
Chinna Thirupathi
Chinna Thirupathi lies close to Kannankurichi Main Road, with Vaikal Patrai and I Agraharam listed among its neighbours. Some lanes look alike, so name a park or shop the tutor can spot and say which side of the main road you live on.
Suramangalam & Jagir Ammapalayam: the railway side
Suramangalam was a separate municipality until the city limits were extended in 1994, and it is now one of the corporation's zonal offices. Salem Junction, in the Salem division of Southern Railway, stands here, and an electrical and electronics industrial estate is in the same area, so train times and shift hours both shape the roads.
Suramangalam
Old Suramangalam and the streets around Junction Main Road both go by the same name, so say which part you live in. For an evening class near the railway junction, leave a little margin for the rush around train times when you fix the slot.
Jagir Ammapalayam
Jagir Ammapalayam, often written as one word, is on the outskirts near the Dharmapuri main road and the Bengaluru highway, with Mamangam and Azad Nagar close by. Share the layout name, the plot or door number, a location link and both spellings. The nearest tutor for a given subject may come from Suramangalam or Meyyanur.
Narasothipatti
Narasothipatti is a residential area near Mamangam and Azad Nagar, within reach of Suramangalam. A few streets branch off one another and are easy to miss after dark, so send the street name, door number, a nearby corner and a location link before the first evening class.
Ammapet & Shevapet: the older centre and east
These four localities border one another, so tutors from one can usually teach in the others. Being central, the zone is within reach of tutors from most of Salem. The Ammapet bypass, a short stretch of the Salem bypass, links the Tirupattur and Ulundurpet highways on this side.
Ammapet
Ammapet, also called Ammapettai, is one of the corporation's four zonal offices, with Gugai, Kondalampatti, Gorimedu and Hasthampatti listed among its neighbours. Main roads mix homes and shops, so add a shop name to the door number, and mention both spellings of the area.
Ponnammapet
Ponnammapet, sometimes written Ponnammapettai, is the more residential neighbour of Ammapet, with Udayapatti and Chinna Thirupathi close at hand. Most families live in their own homes on small streets. Give the street, door number and a shop or junction on the nearest main road; if two streets share a similar name, mention the one beside yours.
Shevapet
Shevapet is one of the older central parts of Salem, near the bazaar streets and Sandaipet, and the city police list it in their Salem Town range. Many buildings have a shop below and a home above. Describe your lane by a shop sign, and give the floor. Shop-owning parents often prefer classes after dinner or on Sunday mornings.
Gugai
Gugai is an inner-city locality close to the Old Bus Stand, with small businesses among the homes. Give the tutor directions from the Old Bus Stand side, plus the street, door number and floor. Online classes help in crowded festival weeks.
Kondalampatti & Seelanaickenpatti: the bypass side
The Kondalampatti–Kandhampatti stretch of the Salem bypass runs through this southern zone, with Seelanaickenpatti, Kondalampatti and Kandhampatti as its main junctions, connecting National Highway 44 with NH 544 and NH 79. Several localities are reached from the bypass, so a location link matters more here than in the centre.
Kondalampatti
Kondalampatti, also written Kondalampatty, houses one of the corporation's four zonal offices, and the Kondalampatti roundabout on the bypass is a landmark residents often use. Start directions there, say which side of the bypass you live on, and add the layout, street and door number.
Seelanaickenpatti
Seelanaickenpatti, also spelt Seelanaikenpatti, is on the southern edge around one of the main bypass junctions, with Annathanapatti and Nethimedu as neighbours. Say whether your home is on the city side of the bypass or beyond it. When a tutor rides in from the city, two longer weekend classes can be easier to keep than four short ones.
Annathanapatti
Annathanapatti, also written Annadanapatti, is a residential area with Nethimedu, Dadagapatti and Seelanaickenpatti close by. A street name, door number and nearby corner shop usually lead the tutor to the right gate.
Kitchipalayam
Kitchipalayam, also written Kichipalayam, sits near Trichy Main Road and Swarnambigai Agraharam. Say whether you live on the Trichy Main Road side or deeper inside, and send a location link so the tutor can plan the route.
Nethimedu
Nethimedu lies between Annathanapatti and Seelanaickenpatti. Street names in this part of the city can sound alike, so check that your location link opens on the right street before you send it, and on the first visit wait at the gate or send someone to the corner.
Fitting a class around the Salem school day
Timing decides whether a weekly class actually happens:
- Younger children: a class soon after school, once the child has eaten, usually works better than a late one.
- Classes 9 to 12: fix a weekday slot and keep it, and agree in advance what happens in school test weeks.
- Homes on the edge of the city: fewer, longer classes, or one home subject and one online subject, keep travel manageable for the tutor.
Boards, mediums and the Plus One year
Many Salem students follow the Tamil Nadu State Board, and many others CBSE. For the State Board, the Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu conducts the SSLC Public Examination for Class 10 and the Higher Secondary examinations, and its website gives HSC (+1) and HSC (+2) separate examination sections. So a State Board student can sit public papers in Class 11 as well as Class 10 and 12. Check every date and notice on dge.tn.gov.in.
- Board pages: Tamil Nadu State Board tutors, CBSE tutors and ICSE and ISC tutors in Salem.
- Subject pages: maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English.
- Entrance support beside Classes 11 and 12: JEE and NEET home tutors in Salem. Both tests are conducted by the National Testing Agency.
Mention the medium of instruction as well as the board, especially after a switch from Tamil to English medium.
Home, online or both
An online tutor for Salem students can be added at any stage, including tutors based in other Tamil Nadu cities such as Coimbatore, Chennai, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli. For what a quote should cover, read home tuition fees in Salem, and for the wider comparison, home tutor or online tutor.
How NXTutors can help

We suggest two or three matched tutors, nearest first, then the rest of your zone and the city, and online tutors from across India when they fit the subject better. You see each tutor's fee before the demo, the first class with each tutor is free, and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete, as described on how we check tutors.

Frequently asked questions
Which parts of Salem does this home tuition guide cover?
This guide covers nineteen Salem localities in five zones: Fairlands and Alagapuram, Hasthampatti and Kannankurichi, Suramangalam and Jagir Ammapalayam, Ammapet and Shevapet, and Kondalampatti and Seelanaickenpatti. Each locality links to its own page, with address and timing advice and the tutors we can suggest for that part of the city.
What reference point should we give a home tutor in Salem?
Give the nearest reference point most people in Salem know, such as Salem Junction, the New Bus Stand or the Old Bus Stand. On the southern side, name the bypass junction instead. Then add the layout or nagar, the street, the door number and, for a flat, the floor, plus a location link.
Can a tutor from the city reach a home in Kannankurichi or Jagir Ammapalayam?
Yes, tutors from nearby localities can reach both, though fewer live close by. In Kannankurichi the nearest match may come from Hasthampatti or Chinna Thirupathi; in Jagir Ammapalayam, from Suramangalam or Meyyanur. Fewer, longer classes or an online class for a second subject often make the plan easier to keep.
When is the right time for home tuition near Shevapet or Gugai?
Late evening or Sunday morning often suits Shevapet and Gugai, because the narrow central lanes are busiest by day. Families who run a shop are often free only after closing. Describe your lane by a shop sign, give the floor if you live above a shop, and switch to online in crowded festival weeks.
Does a State Board student in Salem need tuition in Class 11 too?
Many State Board families plan for Class 11 too, because the Directorate gives HSC (+1) its own examination section, alongside SSLC and HSC (+2). New Higher Secondary subjects arrive at full depth that year. Ask a tutor how they would pace the +1 syllabus, and check exam notices only on dge.tn.gov.in.
