What home tuition costs in Varanasi

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

UP Board tutors in Varanasi: the board's calendar, its own files, and Class 12 physics unit by unit

Varanasi is one of the five cities where the UP Board has a regional office, at Orderly Bazar, and UP Board students here may study in Hindi or in English. Yet the board's most useful material is often left unread: the syllabus files, the monthly plans, the model papers and the notices on upmsp.edu.in. This page is a guide to using those documents well. It explains what the board is and what its Varanasi office does, walks through a board year from registration to the results queries that follow, and then takes one paper, Intermediate physics, apart unit by unit to show how a tutor should plan around it. Every board fact below comes from the board's own website, read in October 2026; check it again for your child's year, because the board revises its files every session.

What the UP Board is, in four lines

Its formal name is Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh. An act of the United Provinces Legislative Council set it up at Prayagraj in 1921, and it held its first examination in 1923. Today it grants recognition to schools, prescribes curricula and textbooks, and conducts two public examinations: High School at the end of Class 10 and Intermediate at the end of Class 12. Everything else on this page follows from those three jobs: what is taught is fixed centrally, published on one website, and examined to the board's own pattern.

The regional office in Varanasi, and when a family needs it

The board opened its Varanasi regional office in 1978, and the board's contact page gives its address as Orderly Bazar. The same page lists the districts it serves: Varanasi itself, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Ballia, Mau, Azamgarh, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Barabanki, Amethi and others, and, in the page's words, all the districts of the newly created Gorakhpur regional office, with records held from 1986. The board directs questions about examinations, results, duplicate certificates and mark sheets, migration, verification and scrutiny to its regional offices.

For most families that means the office matters after the exam, not before it: a lost mark sheet, a migration certificate for a move to another board, or a request to have an answer book scrutinised. A tutor has no part in those requests. What a tutor can do is make sure, in the months before, that nothing on the school side will need correcting afterwards. Use the contact details published on upmsp.edu.in rather than numbers passed around on messaging groups.

A board year, as the website lays it out

The board's home page shows how far ahead it works. In the 2026-27 session, advance registration for Class 9 and Class 11 students is already open for the examinations of 2028, while Class 10 and Class 12 students are being registered, through their schools or as private candidates, for the 2027 examinations. In the same place the board posted its notice on the 2026 High School improvement and compartment examinations and the Intermediate compartment examination. Put together, a family's board year has four checkpoints:

Four checkpoints in a UP Board year, and who handles each
CheckpointWho actsWhat the family should doWhere a tutor fits
Class 9 or Class 11 advance registrationThe schoolAsk the school to confirm name, date of birth and subjects in the recordHelp settle the Class 11 group before the record is fixed
Class 10 or Class 12 examination registrationThe school, or the candidate if privateCheck the subject list once more; private candidates follow the board's private routePlan the year from the current syllabus files
The examinationsThe boardFollow only the board's own notices for dates and instructionsModel papers under full timing in the final months
Results and afterThe board and its regional officeUse the official route for scrutiny, duplicates or migration; watch for improvement and compartment noticesTargeted preparation if a compartment or improvement paper is needed

Our guide to choosing a board and stream helps with the Class 11 decision, which is the one checkpoint where a few weeks of honest teaching in two subjects can prevent a costly change later.

Six kinds of file a tutor should be using

Under its student menu the board publishes six sets of material. A tutor who works from them is teaching to the board's own design; one who works only from a bazaar guide may be a session or two behind it.

The board's student material and how to use it in tuition
On the websiteWhat it isHow a tutor uses it
SyllabusSubject files for each class, with units and marks for the sessionSets the order of work and shows which units carry the most marks
Monthly syllabusThe chapters set for each month of the school yearKeeps tuition a step ahead of school instead of behind it
Model papersSample papers in the board's current patternFull timed practice in the last months; a guide to how questions are worded
Question bankSubject-wise practice questionsShort daily sets between tuition sessions
Formative assessmentMaterial for assessment during the yearShows what the school is expected to check, and when
BooksThe board's book listingsConfirms the textbook the child should actually be reading

Many of these files are in Hindi. A tutor for an English-medium student should still read them, because the unit list and the marks are the same whichever language the child writes in.

Intermediate physics for 2026-27, unit by unit

One subject shows how much a syllabus file tells you. The board's Class 12 physics syllabus for 2026-27 sets a total of 100 marks: a written paper of 70 and practical work of 30. The minimum pass mark is written as 23 plus 10, that is 33 in all, with 23 from the paper and 10 from the practical. The theory is split into two sections of 35 marks each.

UP Board Class 12 physics, 2026-27: units and marks from the board's syllabus
SectionUnitMarks
Section A (35)Electrostatics8
Current electricity7
Magnetic effect of current and magnetism8
Electromagnetic induction and alternating currents8
Electromagnetic waves4
Section B (35)Optics13
Dual nature of matter6
Atoms and nuclei8
Electronic devices8

Three planning points follow. First, optics is the largest single unit, worth almost a fifth of the paper, so it deserves early and repeated work rather than a rush in January. Second, the four electricity and magnetism units together carry 31 marks and build on each other in order; a student weak in electrostatics will struggle all the way to alternating currents, so the tutor should secure the first unit before moving on. Third, because the pass mark is split between paper and practical, a student cannot lean on practical marks alone; a tutor working with a weak student should aim first at the units that most reliably add marks. Students also preparing for JEE or NEET will recognise these topics; see JEE and NEET home tutors in Varanasi for how one plan can serve both, and the physics home tutors in Varanasi page for the subject across boards.

The practical list: thirty marks that need preparation too

The same file lists twenty experiments in two sections. Among them are finding resistance and specific resistance with a metre bridge, comparing the e.m.f. of two cells and finding internal resistance with a potentiometer, finding the focal length of lenses, drawing the graph of angle of incidence against deviation for a prism to find the minimum deviation and refractive index, converting a galvanometer into an ammeter or a voltmeter, and drawing the characteristic curves of a p-n junction diode and a Zener diode.

A home tutor cannot run the laboratory, and should not try to. What a tutor can do is make sure the student understands what each experiment measures and why, can sketch the circuit or ray diagram from memory, knows which graph to plot and how to read the result from it, and can answer the viva-style questions that follow. The pass mark includes 10 from the practical, so this is not a corner to cut.

Four school unit tests, and why they matter even though they do not count

The physics file also sets out four unit tests for remedial teaching, held by the school. The first, multiple choice, comes in the second week of July and is worth 20 marks, ten of them for homework set over the summer vacation. The second, with descriptive questions, falls in the last week of August. The third, multiple choice again, is in the last week of November, and the fourth, descriptive, in the last week of December, each worth 20. The board states that these marks are not included in the result.

Because they do not count, it is tempting to ignore them. That throws away the clearest early warning the year offers. A tutor should ask to see every unit test paper, note the units where marks were lost, and plan the following month around them. The alternation also teaches something: the two multiple-choice tests reward speed and recall, the two descriptive ones reward full working and clear diagrams, and the final paper will need both. The summer homework that feeds the first test is a good first task for a new tutor in May or June.

Beyond physics: the other subject files

The board's syllabus page carries similar files for the main subjects. For Class 10 these include Hindi, Elementary Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati, along with Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Commerce, Agriculture and Computer. For Class 12 they include Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, History, Geography, Mathematics, Economics, Computer, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy and Business Studies. Ask a tutor to bring the current file for your child's subject to the demo; it is quick to find on the website and tells you at once whether the tutor works from it.

Hindi medium or English medium: say which

UP Board students in Varanasi study in Hindi or in English, and the same physics chapter reads very differently in each. The syllabus file quoted above is itself written in Hindi. So a request should name three things at once: the board, the class and the language of your child's answer script. The tutor is free to explain in Hindi, English or a mix, whichever your child grasps fastest, but practice answers must use the vocabulary of the paper your child will actually write. Get the medium wrong and even a strong teacher becomes a poor match.

How UP Board tutors reach six Varanasi localities

  • Brij Enclave Colony sits between the Lanka side and the Banaras station side, so tutors can come from either direction. Give the lane and house number, since colony streets look alike, and register the tutor at the gate of an apartment building.
  • Chitaipur is mostly independent houses in growing colonies, with thin public transport; most tutors come by two-wheeler, so send a map pin and a turning landmark.
  • Shivpur is served by Shivpur Road, the Lucknow road and the ring road. Look first for tutors in Shivpur, Bhojuveer or Parmanandpur, and give the security desk of a gated community the tutor's name and phone number.
  • Varanasi Cantonment has wide roads but many homes behind a gate; tell the guard who is coming and check whether ID is needed. Tutors from Nadesar or near the junction station have the shortest trip.
  • Pandeypur is largely flats; share the block and floor, and choose a slot that avoids the evening build-up towards the station and the centre.
  • Paharia is mainly independent houses on the way towards Sarnath, where the tutor comes to the doorstep; give the lane and a nearby shop or crossing on the first day.

The zone pages for the south-west, north-west and north-east go further; every locality is on the Varanasi home tutors page, and our Varanasi home tuition guide covers timing in each zone.

Home, online, or both

Home visits suit High School students, anyone who drifts on a screen, and the subjects where the tutor must watch working: maths, physics numericals, chemical equations and accountancy. Online suits a quick check before a unit test, a senior subject whose right tutor lives across the city, and evenings when summer heat, monsoon rain or winter fog make the trip difficult. One tutor across both formats keeps the plan in one head. Our home tutor or online tutor comparison sets out the trade-offs, and the online tutors for Varanasi page explains how to arrange lessons on screen. For students moving between boards, see our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Varanasi.

Five questions for a UP Board tutor at the demo

  1. "Which class, subject and medium have you taught on this board recently?" Teaching Intermediate physics in Hindi is not the same job as teaching High School maths in English.
  2. "Can you show me this session's syllabus file for the subject?" A tutor who works from it finds it in moments.
  3. "Which units carry the most marks, and how will you order the year?" For physics, listen for optics and the electricity units.
  4. "What will you do with the school unit tests?" The right answer is to read every paper and plan from the errors.
  5. "How will you help with practicals without doing them?" Diagrams, graphs, readings and viva questions, not the record book.

UP Board Home Tutor in Varanasi (High School & Intermediate): common questions

Can I find a UP Board home tutor in Varanasi?

Yes. Tell us the class, the Intermediate group if relevant, the medium your child writes in, whether they are a school or private candidate, and your locality with a landmark. We send two or three matched tutors with their fees shown, and the first class with the one you choose is a free demo.

What does the UP Board regional office in Varanasi handle?

The board lists its Varanasi regional office at Orderly Bazar, serving Varanasi and many other districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The board directs queries on examinations, results, duplicate certificates and mark sheets, migration, verification and scrutiny to its regional offices. Use the contact details on upmsp.edu.in, not numbers shared elsewhere.

When are UP Board students registered?

For the 2026-27 session the board's website shows advance registration for Classes 9 and 11, for the 2028 examinations, and registration of Class 10 and Class 12 candidates, school or private, for the 2027 examinations. The school uploads the record, so ask it to confirm the name, date of birth and subjects.

How is UP Board Class 12 physics marked in 2026-27?

The board's syllabus sets 100 marks: a 70-mark written paper and 30 practical marks. The pass mark is written as 23 plus 10, so 33 in all. The paper has two sections of 35 marks; optics, at 13 marks, is the largest unit, and the four electricity and magnetism units together carry 31.

Do the school unit tests in UP Board physics count towards the result?

No. The 2026-27 physics syllabus lists four school-level unit tests for remedial teaching, two multiple-choice and two descriptive, in July, August, November and December, and states that their marks are not included in the result. A tutor should still read every paper and plan the next month around the errors.

Which board files should a UP Board tutor work from?

The board publishes a syllabus, a monthly syllabus, model papers, a question bank, formative assessment material and book listings on upmsp.edu.in. A tutor should plan the year from the current syllabus file, stay ahead of school with the monthly plan, and use model papers under full timing in the final months.

Does it matter whether my child studies in Hindi or English medium?

Yes, a great deal. The same chapter reads differently in each language, and some board files are in Hindi. A tutor can explain in whichever language your child grasps fastest, but practice answers should use the vocabulary of the paper your child will write. Tell us the medium with the request.

How much does a UP Board home tutor cost in Varanasi?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, shown before the free demo, so you can compare first.
