What home tuition costs in Varanasi

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE and ISC home tutors in Varanasi: a long syllabus, long answers, and electives chosen early

Families on the CISCE route in Varanasi usually notice the same thing first: there is a great deal of it. ICSE Class 10 brings more separate papers than parents expect, English carries set literature, and almost every answer is written at length. ISC narrows the subject list in Classes 11 and 12 but deepens each subject, and adds practical and project work that cannot be skipped. This page sets out how the council organises both stages, where marks are usually lost, how a tutor keeps a wide course moving without early chapters going cold, how tutors reach different parts of Varanasi, and what to test at the free demo. Maths notes for ICSE reflect Abhinandan Tiwary's role teaching Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths; science notes reflect Aaditya Kashyap's role in CBSE and ICSE science; ISC maths notes reflect Ajay Vatsyayan's role teaching IB, IGCSE and ISC maths.

Where ICSE and ISC sit among Varanasi's boards

Our Varanasi tutors page names four groups of syllabuses in the city: the UP Board, CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and a handful of IB and IGCSE students. We publish no shares. The useful comparison is with the state board. The UP Board conducts High School and Intermediate examinations from curricula and textbooks it prescribes, and its students may study in Hindi or English. CISCE asks for longer English answers across nearly every subject, splits Class 10 science into three papers, and publishes subject-wise reports on where candidates went wrong. A tutor who mostly teaches the state board needs to show they can mark the way CISCE does.

The three subject groups in ICSE Class 10

ICSE groups under the CISCE regulations, and how each is weighted
GroupWhat the student takesExam : internalTuition priority
Group I (compulsory)English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography80 : 20English writing and literature; long-answer practice in history and geography
Group II (two or three)Choices such as Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies, a modern foreign or classical language, Environmental Science80 : 20Maths and the three sciences take most tutor time
Group III (one)An applied subject, for example Computer Applications, Economic Applications, Commercial Applications, Art, Physical Education, Robotics and AI50 : 50Keep project work moving through the year; half the marks are internal

How the maths and science papers are set

Mathematics. One paper of three hours and 80 marks, with 20 internal marks from at least two assignments, each assessed separately by the subject teacher and an external examiner. Commercial topics such as banking and shares sit alongside algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics, and examiners expect every step to be shown. A tutor can advise on method and presentation in an assignment, but the work must be the student's.

Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Three separate papers of two hours and 80 marks each, and each with 20 internal marks for practical work. Being strong in one does not carry the other two, so it is worth asking whether a single tutor will take all three or whether the weakest needs its own specialist. After each exam season CISCE releases an Analysis of Pupil Performance for each subject, showing where candidates lost marks; a good tutor reads it alongside the specimen papers. See also our physics, chemistry and biology pages for Varanasi.

Revision in rounds, so nothing goes cold

The Varanasi hub's advice for these boards is to map out repeated revision of the whole syllabus, mark answers for exact wording, and stop projects bunching up just before the papers. Turned into a routine, that looks like this:

  1. A rotating return. Every third or fourth session, one slot goes back to an older chapter in each paper, so the first term's work is still fresh in the final term.
  2. Timed long answers from Class 9. Speed in extended writing builds slowly; waiting for the last term is too late.
  3. Marking for wording. In science and English especially, the tutor marks against the precise terms a CISCE examiner looks for, not just the idea.
  4. A dated project list. Checked at the start of every month, with the Group III subject listed first because half its marks sit there.

A typical hour begins with the student's own written answers corrected line by line, moves to one new idea, and ends with one answer written against the clock.

English deserves a word of its own. The Group I English papers include prescribed literature, and many students who are confident in conversation still lose marks by retelling the story instead of answering the question set. A tutor should teach them to quote briefly, explain what the quotation shows, and stop. Composition and letter writing improve fastest with one piece a week, marked for structure first and grammar second, then rewritten. For children who speak Hindi at home and read their textbooks in English, a short spell of reading aloud at the start of each session builds the fluency that long papers demand.

ISC in Classes 11 and 12: rules worth knowing early

  • English is compulsory, alongside three to five electives, with no more than six subjects in all.
  • Subjects cannot be changed after 15 September of the Class 11 registration year, and a subject taken in Class 12 must have been studied in Class 11.
  • Promotion needs 35% in four subjects including English, and 75% attendance.
  • Practical examinations are compulsory where a subject has them, and Physics cannot be paired with Engineering Science.
  • Results are graded 1 to 9; a pass certificate needs four subjects including English, plus Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service.

ISC Mathematics has a three-hour theory paper of 80 marks and 20 marks of project work in both years. Our ISC maths tutor page goes into the subject, and the maths home tutors in Varanasi page covers all boards.

Getting an ICSE tutor to your door

  • Chitaipur and Kailashpuri Colony, in the south-west: mostly houses and plots, with newer lanes that visitors find hard. Send a map pin, the house number and a turning landmark, and expect the tutor on a two-wheeler.
  • Varanasi Cantonment and Nadesar, in the north-west: wide roads and easy parking, but many homes sit behind a gate. Give the guard the tutor's name and timing before the first class, and ask whether ID is needed.
  • Paharia and Sarnath, in the north-east: independent houses and plotted colonies where neighbouring lanes look alike. Give the colony name and a clear turning; in Sarnath, later-afternoon or weekend slots avoid daytime visitor traffic.

A specialist for some ISC electives can be harder to find close to home, so for an elective such as economics or computer science an online specialist can sit beside a home tutor for maths or science. The Varanasi home tuition guide covers every zone.

After Class 10: stay with ISC or move?

An ICSE student may move to CBSE or to the UP Board for Classes 11 and 12, perhaps for an entrance plan or a change of school. ISC keeps the familiar long-answer style and goes deeper in each elective. CBSE means NCERT books, its yearly sample papers and different theory-practical splits; see our CBSE home tutors in Varanasi page. The UP Board means its own prescribed books and paper style; see UP Board tutors in Varanasi. Maths and science carry over well whichever way the student goes. Decide before Class 11 begins, because ISC locks subjects in mid-September. For a student aiming at engineering or medicine, the JEE and NEET pages explain how school and entrance work can share one plan, and our guide to choosing a board and stream lists the questions to ask.

Home or online for ICSE and ISC

Home lessons suit the younger classes, maths and physics where every line needs watching, and any student who loses focus on a screen. Online suits English literature discussion, a narrow ISC elective, and the weeks when summer heat, monsoon rain or winter fog make travel hard. Many families use one tutor across both. Our home tutor or online tutor article compares them, and the English home tutors in Varanasi page covers the language papers.

How to tell, at the demo, whether a tutor teaches the CISCE way

  1. Ask which ICSE or ISC papers they have taught recently, and in which classes.
  2. Give them one answer your child has written and see whether they correct the wording, not just the method.
  3. Ask how they use the specimen papers and the council's examiner reports.
  4. Ask how they will keep three science papers level, or which one they would hand to a specialist.
  5. Ask what their revision rounds look like across a full year.

Two or three matched tutors, each fee visible before the demo, a free first class and a free switch later. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how we check tutors). Our national ICSE board hub explains the council's papers in more depth.

Fees and getting started

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For ICSE and ISC, the class, the number of papers, the time left before the exam and the tutor's route decide where a fee sits. The pricing guide and our post on home tuition fees in Varanasi explain more.

ICSE & ISC Home Tutor in Varanasi (Classes 6–12): common questions

How do Varanasi families on the ICSE or ISC route get matched with a home tutor?

Varanasi families on ICSE or ISC send the class, subjects, locality with a landmark and free slots, and we reply with two or three matched tutors. Each fee is shown before the first class, the first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free. For a less common ISC elective, an online specialist can work beside a local tutor.

What hourly rate does an ICSE or ISC home tutor in Varanasi usually charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For ICSE and ISC, the class, the number of papers, the time left before the exam and the tutor's route decide where a fee sits.

What makes the ICSE Class 10 workload so large for a Varanasi child?

ICSE Class 10 feels heavy for Varanasi students mainly because of volume, with long English answers expected in nearly every paper. Students take Group I and Group II papers plus one Group III subject, and science alone is three separate two-hour papers of 80 marks each. Revision in rounds and timed long answers from Class 9 help most.

Who assesses the ICSE maths assignments behind the 20 internal marks for Varanasi students?

For Varanasi students, ICSE maths awards its 20 internal marks from at least two assignments, beside one three-hour, 80-mark paper. Each assignment is assessed separately by the subject teacher and an external examiner. A tutor can guide method and presentation, but the assignment must be the student's own work, done steadily through the year.

Which ISC subject rules should a Varanasi Class 11 student know early?

A Varanasi Class 11 student on ISC must take English with three to five electives, no more than six subjects in all. Subjects cannot be changed after 15 September of the registration year, and every Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11. Promotion needs 35% in four subjects including English and 75% attendance.

Can a tutor who mainly teaches the UP Board handle ICSE in Varanasi?

A Varanasi tutor who mainly teaches the UP Board can often handle ICSE content, since maths and science overlap a great deal. ICSE, though, expects longer English answers, three separate science papers and marking that follows CISCE specimen papers and examiner reports. At the demo, ask which ICSE papers they have taught and watch whether they correct written wording.

Should a Varanasi student stay on ISC after ICSE or switch to CBSE or the UP Board?

For a Varanasi student, ISC after ICSE keeps the familiar long-answer style and deepens each elective, while CBSE and the UP Board bring their own books. Maths and science carry over well either way. Decide before Class 11 begins, because ISC locks subjects in mid-September.

How should an ICSE tutor in Varanasi teach the English literature answers?

An ICSE tutor in Varanasi should teach students to answer the literature question set rather than retell the story. The method is a brief quotation, a clear explanation of what it shows, then a stop. Composition and letters improve with one piece a week, marked for structure first and grammar second, then rewritten.

What does a revision-in-rounds plan look like for ICSE students in Varanasi?

For ICSE students in Varanasi, revision in rounds means every third or fourth session returns to an older chapter in each paper, so first-term work stays fresh. Add timed long answers from Class 9, marking for exact CISCE wording, and a dated project list checked monthly, with the Group III subject first because half its marks are internal.

Is home or online tuition the better fit for ICSE and ISC in Varanasi?

In Varanasi, home tuition suits younger ICSE classes, maths and physics where every line needs watching, and students who lose focus on a screen. Online suits English literature discussion, a narrow ISC elective, and weeks when summer heat, monsoon rain or winter fog make travel hard. Many families use one tutor across both.
