Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A maths tutor in Varanasi has two puzzles to solve before teaching a single chapter. One is the paper: a Class 10 student here may sit the UP Board High School exam with answers in Hindi, a CBSE Standard paper in English, or an ICSE paper, and each one hands out marks for different habits. The other is the road: a tutor who lives near Lanka can usually manage Durgakund or Sunderpur after school, but a home behind the Lohamandi market or off Mahmoorganj Road is often better served by someone from the centre. Give NXTutors the class, board, answer-sheet language and your locality; our shortlist of two or three maths tutors is built around all four, each fee is listed up front, and your opening lesson with the chosen tutor is a free demo.
This page has two named authors. Ajay Vatsyayan covers IB, IGCSE and ISC maths; Abhinandan Tiwary covers Class 10 maths for CBSE and ICSE. Both begin with the examining body, since it decides the textbook, how a solution must be laid out and what sort of practice is worth the time.
| Exam | Body | How the marks divide | Opening question |
|---|---|---|---|
| High School, Class 10 | UP Board (UPMSP) | 70 in the written paper, 30 from school assessment including a project | How do you prepare a student for the OMR answer sheet? |
| Intermediate, Classes 11 and 12 | UP Board (UPMSP) | One 100-mark paper each year; nothing internal | When in Class 12 will calculus be finished? |
| CBSE Classes 10 and 12 | CBSE | 80 for the board paper, 20 marked by the school | Is Standard or Basic right for my child? |
| ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | CISCE | 80 written, with 20 from school-based or project assessment | Do you teach the syllabus for my child's exam year? |
| IB Diploma; Cambridge IGCSE | IB; Cambridge | IB: exam papers plus an exploration. IGCSE: a Core or Extended entry | When did you last teach this course and level? |
Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, known to most families simply as the UP Board, runs the High School exam at the close of Class 10 and the Intermediate exam at the close of Class 12. It also recognises schools and prescribes their curricula and textbooks, and it has kept a regional office in Varanasi, at Orderly Bazar, since 1978. For 2026-27 its maths syllabus puts 70 marks on the written paper and 30 on assessment inside the school, project work included. To pass, a student must score 23 on the paper and 10 on the school part. The written 70 divide like this:
The model paper sets the scene for exam day: three hours with a reading period before writing begins, then a Section A with twenty objective questions of one mark each, answered by filling bubbles on an OMR sheet, and a Section B carrying 50 marks across five questions, each saying how many of its parts must be attempted. No cutting, eraser or whitener is allowed on the OMR sheet, which turns a rushed choice into a lost mark. A tutor should therefore rehearse one-mark blocks on printed OMR-style sheets, with each answer settled in rough work before the bubble is filled.
Two more resources on upmsp.edu.in are worth a tutor's attention. A monthly syllabus shows how far the school should have reached, which keeps tuition level with the classroom, and the board has told schools that only books it authorises are to be taught in 2026-27. Practice should come from those books, not from a guide written with a different board in mind. The remaining subjects are covered on our UP Board tutors in Varanasi page.
The internal share disappears. Each year ends with a single 100-mark maths paper, so the final exam carries the whole result, and the unit marks show where the months should go.
| Class 11 unit | Marks | Class 12 unit | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Algebra | 35 | Calculus | 44 |
| Sets and functions | 28 | Vectors and three-dimensional geometry | 18 |
| Coordinate geometry | 15 | Algebra | 15 |
| Statistics and probability | 12 | Relations and functions | 10 |
| Calculus | 10 | Probability | 8 |
| Linear programming | 5 |
In Class 12, calculus is close to half the paper on its own, which is why a tutor who leaves integration until winter is storing up trouble. The board's Class 12 model paper is built from nine questions, none optional, each telling the student how many parts to attempt; parts range from one-mark objective items up to eight marks. Long answers earn their marks through complete working, so a sensible rule is one eight-mark question every week, solved in full on paper and checked against the way the model paper sets it out. Take dates and any change of scheme from upmsp.edu.in rather than from memory of an earlier year.
Follow the answer sheet, not the dinner table. The UP Board's maths model papers are set in Hindi, and plenty of Varanasi students write their answers in Hindi and others in English; a good number change medium at Class 9 or at Class 11. When a child has learnt samantar shreni and the tutor keeps saying arithmetic progression, much of the hour goes on translation instead of maths.
When a student leaves a Hindi-medium UP Board school for Class 11 in English on CBSE or ISC, ask the tutor for a bridge plan: a running glossary with both terms side by side, word problems read in English and then retold in the student's own words, and every written solution in English from the first week, even if the explaining still happens in Hindi.
In CBSE Class 10, the 2026-27 paper keeps the previous session's design. Of the 80 board marks, algebra takes 20 and geometry 15, followed by trigonometry at 12, statistics and probability at 11 and mensuration at 10; real numbers and coordinate geometry carry 6 each. Section A holds twenty one-mark items, eighteen of them multiple-choice and two assertion–reason; B has five two-mark questions, C six of three marks, D four of five, and E three case studies of four marks each. Calculators stay outside the hall, and π is 22/7 unless a question gives another value.
Standard and Basic examine the same chapters at different depths: roughly 54% of Standard marks rest on remembering and understanding, compared with about three-quarters in Basic. If maths in Class 11 is on the table, choose Standard, and note the school's registration deadline. Since 2026, every Class 10 student sits a compulsory main exam and may take an optional second exam to raise up to three subjects, maths among them. CBSE has not announced 2027 dates yet; check cbse.gov.in. For chapter-wise help, use our Class 10 maths preparation guide; for pacing, the board-year planner; and for matching, the Class 10 maths tutor page.
CBSE Class 12 sets 38 compulsory questions for 80 marks, and calculus accounts for 35 of them. JEE Main scores differently: Paper 1 in 2026 carried 75 questions for 300 marks, 25 of them in maths, split into twenty multiple-choice and five numerical-answer questions, with +4 for a right answer and −1 for a wrong one. Before relying on that, confirm the coming year's pattern at jeemain.nta.nic.in. A student juggling both needs one session for entrance problems against the clock and one for a board answer written out step by step. See the Class 12 calculus and algebra guide, the JEE maths topic-wise guide, the Class 12 maths tutor page and our JEE home tutors in Varanasi page.
Teachers for these four courses are scarcer than UP Board or CBSE tutors, so mention the course straight away. When nobody suitable is able to visit, an online specialist is the usual way round it.
Tutors in Varanasi mostly travel by two-wheeler or auto, and the central and southern roads are slowest from late afternoon. A tutor who lives close by is usually the one who keeps a weekday slot for a whole year. Compare tutors by locality on our Varanasi page.
Sigra packs apartment blocks, houses and shop-fronts together, with a large cricket stadium that makes an easy landmark; parking is short, so a tutor on a two-wheeler arrives more reliably than one in a car. Mahmoorganj next door feels quieter, with family homes and newer multi-storey buildings along Mahmoorganj Road; share the floor and flat number before day one. Lohamandi, known for its iron and hardware market, has many flats above shops, so tell the tutor which doorway or stair to use. Its market traffic is heaviest by day, and evenings are often easier.
In Bhelupur, houses and builder floors sit among a mix of lanes and wider roads; give the colony, the lane and a landmark such as the Durgakund pond or the Rathyatra crossing. Lanka sits beside a large campus, and so many students and teachers live around it that a nearby maths tutor is often easy to find, but the road by the campus gate is crowded at peak hours; morning or weekend lessons help. Sunderpur is calmer, mostly independent houses where colony lanes can look alike, so send the house number and the nearest well-known turning.
Whether the tutor comes twice a week or three times, the same five parts belong in each lesson. The balance shifts with the board:
| Part | UP Board | CBSE | Class 12 with JEE |
|---|---|---|---|
| Homework check | Marked in the medium of the paper | Marked against the CBSE marking scheme | Coaching-sheet problems left unsolved |
| New idea | Paced to the board's monthly syllabus | Paced to the school's term plan | Paced to whichever is ahead |
| Quick-fire block | OMR-style one-mark items | Section A and assertion–reason items | Numerical-answer questions |
| One long answer | An eight-mark Section B question | A five-mark question or case study | A board question with full steps |
| Next steps | Short homework, written down, to be checked at the start of the next lesson | ||
For Classes 5 to 7, the long answer becomes a word problem told in the child's own words, and the quick-fire block becomes tables, fractions and mental sums.
A poor fit is easily fixed: tell us, and a different tutor from your shortlist gives a demo; a switch later on costs nothing either. More questions are in the demo class checklist for parents, and if the journey is the problem, read home tutor or online tutor.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names their own rate. The board and class, how long the tutor has taught that paper, the ride to your locality at the hour you want, and how many lessons a week you book all shape it, and every shortlisted fee is on screen before the demo. Our Varanasi home tuition fees article lists the questions worth asking.
Write to us with the class; the exact board and level (UP Board, CBSE Standard, CBSE Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE); the answer-sheet language; your locality and a landmark; workable days and times; and a budget. Tutors who join go through an ID check. We send back two or three matched maths tutors with fees attached, and you pick one for the free demo. Where no suitable tutor can travel to your part of Varanasi at that time, we propose online or mixed lessons. NXTutors is based in Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India; our national maths home tutor page explains matching in other cities, and the Varanasi home tuition guide covers every part of the city.
If you teach maths and live in Varanasi, open requests from families nearby are listed on the Varanasi tuition jobs page.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor sets an individual rate, and each shortlisted fee is shown to you before you pick anyone for the demo.
Yes. We shortlist tutors who work from the board's authorised books, in the language your child writes the paper in, and who practise the OMR one-mark section on printed sheets. The 2026-27 High School paper is 70 marks, with 30 more from school assessment including a project.
Close to half: 44 out of 100 marks in the Class 12 Intermediate paper go to calculus. Vectors and three-dimensional geometry follow with 18 and algebra with 15. There are no internal marks in Classes 11 and 12, so a tutor should finish calculus early and leave time for full model papers.
If you ask, yes. Let us know which language your child writes answers in, which may differ from the one spoken at home, and we shortlist tutors who explain and mark in that language using the textbook's own terms. For a move to English medium, the tutor can build a two-language glossary alongside the lessons.
Our matching covers the centre around Sigra and Mahmoorganj, the south from Bhelupur to Lanka, the Sunderpur and Chitaipur colonies, the Cantonment and Shivpur side, and Pandeypur out to Sarnath. Where no suitable tutor can reach your home at the hour you need, we suggest online or mixed lessons instead.
Pick Standard whenever Class 11 maths remains a possibility. The two levels share their chapters and 80 board marks, but Basic places about three-quarters of its marks on remembering and understanding, against roughly 54% in Standard. The choice is made at registration, so check the school's deadline.
Yes, provided the two do different jobs. The batch races through new chapters; the home tutor can clear unsolved sheet problems and protect the board paper, where CBSE gives calculus 35 of 80 marks and the UP Board gives it 44 of 100, all needing written steps.
Usually, by two-wheeler or auto. Near Lanka the campus-gate road is crowded at peak hours, so morning or weekend lessons run more smoothly. In Lohamandi many flats sit above shops, so tell the tutor which doorway to use; evenings are often easier there than busy market hours.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
