Tutoring in Varanasi: what to know
Varanasi, for a tutor, divides into five working zones. The centre around Sigra, Mahmoorganj, Rathyatra, Shivpurwa and Lohamandi is crowded and mixed, with flats, houses and shops side by side. South of it, Bhelupur, Durgakund, Lanka and Nagwa sit around a large campus where many students and teachers rent rooms and flats. Sunderpur, Chitaipur, Kailashpuri Colony and Brij Enclave Colony are quieter colonies of mostly independent houses to the south-west. The Cantonment, Nadesar and Shivpur fill the north-west, from wide roads and gated campuses to newer gated communities, and Pandeypur, Paharia, Danganj and Sarnath run out to the north-east.
Tutors in Varanasi get around by two-wheeler, auto and bus, and the main bus stand beside Lohamandi, Varanasi Junction next to the Cantonment and Banaras station on the Manduadih side are the usual points to travel from. Students here sit the UP Board's High School and Intermediate examinations, CBSE, and CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and a handful follow IB or Cambridge IGCSE. A UP Board student reading Hindi-medium textbooks and a CBSE student working in English each need a tutor who explains comfortably in that language, so say clearly on your profile which boards you teach and the language you teach in.
Varanasi suits both home and online teaching. When a family in Lanka sends a request, NXTutors puts forward two or three tutors, looking first at tutors in Lanka, then at those who already travel there, then the rest of the zone, the city and online; the family sees your fee before a free first demo and may move to another tutor later without paying for the change. Evening traffic gathers near the Lanka campus gate, around Varanasi Junction and at the Rathyatra crossing, so fix lessons either side of it. You can also teach students elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh or India online while keeping home lessons close to where you live.

1
Sign up with a one-time code
Create your account by confirming your phone or email through a one-time code, then list subjects, classes, boards such as UP Board, CBSE or ICSE, your teaching language and the Varanasi localities you cover.
-
2
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Next, add a government photo ID. Once our team has reviewed it, the Verified badge shows on your profile; the check confirms identity only, with no police or background screening involved.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
Your profile shows families your boards, teaching language, fee and the localities you cover, whether that is Sigra and Mahmoorganj in the centre or Pandeypur and Sarnath out to the north-east.
-
4
A family nearby sends a request
A parent in Durgakund or Nadesar sends a request. NXTutors suggests two or three tutors, nearest first, then those who already travel there, then the zone, the rest of Varanasi and online.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
Your fee is visible to the family before they book. The opening lesson is a free home demo, and we ask a parent to be there, giving you a feel for the student, the street and the hour.

Teach at home, online or both
After that, take home lessons in the localities you chose, online students from anywhere in Uttar Pradesh or India, or a blend, such as a Saturday visit in Lanka plus weekday online sessions.
Boards you can teach in Varanasi
Varanasi tutors teach UP Board students for High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12), CBSE and CISCE's ICSE and ISC students, and a smaller number of IB or Cambridge IGCSE learners, who more often study online. The UP Board, formally Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, prescribes curricula and textbooks and runs a regional office in Varanasi; read its syllabuses and notices on upmsp.edu.in, CBSE material on cbseacademic.nic.in and CISCE regulations on cisce.org. State your boards and teaching language on your profile.
UPMSP
High School (Class 10); Intermediate (Class 12)
The UP Board grants recognition to schools, prescribes curricula and textbooks, and conducts the High School and Intermediate examinations. It opened a regional office in Varanasi in 1978, at Orderly Bazar. Teach from the prescribed textbooks in the student's medium, Hindi or English, and take patterns, model papers and dates only from upmsp.edu.in.
CBSE students in Varanasi often learn in English beside UP Board peers who may study in Hindi, so confirm the board and language at the demo. Base lessons on NCERT, work through the sample papers and marking schemes published on cbseacademic.nic.in, and plan slots around evening traffic near the Lanka campus gate or Varanasi Junction.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
ICSE in Class 10 and ISC in Class 12 ask for long, well-organised written answers across a broad syllabus, with set texts in English literature. A Varanasi tutor who knows these papers can take home lessons locally and teach ISC subjects online to students in other cities. CISCE's regulations and specimen papers are on cisce.org.
IB
Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)
Only a handful of Varanasi students follow the IB Diploma, so the right subject specialist is often found online. Coursework such as the Internal Assessment and the Extended Essay counts alongside the final papers; a tutor can guide the student, but the work must remain the student's own. Plan lessons from the subject guides on ibo.org.
Cambridge IGCSE students in Varanasi are a small group who usually work with online tutors. Confirm whether the school enters students with Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel and which tier they will sit, then teach command words and practise past papers against the official mark schemes. Cambridge syllabuses are on cambridgeinternational.org.
