What home tuition costs in Varanasi

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Science home tutor in Varanasi for Classes 6 to 10: building the habits the board paper will test

Up to Class 8, science in most Varanasi homes is a matter of reading the chapter and answering the questions at the back. Then Class 9 arrives with motion graphs, chemical equations and labelled cell diagrams in the same week, and Class 10 ends in a board paper that marks each of those differently. Whether your child is on the UP Board, CBSE or ICSE, and whether they write in Hindi or English, the right tutor is someone who teaches from your child's own book, can reach your neighbourhood straight after school, and starts exam habits early. Share the class, board and medium with NXTutors and we come back with two or three science tutors, each fee listed up front; the opening lesson with the one you choose is a free demo.

What should science tuition do at each stage from Class 6?

The CBSE and ICSE science advice here comes from Aaditya Kashyap. Before Class 9, the stage a child has reached shapes the tutoring more than the board does:

Science tuition from Class 6 to Class 10: the main job at each stage and a sign that it is working
ClassMain job for the tutorSign it is working
6 and 7Make sure every activity from NCERT's Curiosity books, or from whatever text the school uses, ends in a few written lines and a sketch with labelsYour child uses the scientific word instead of an everyday one
8Separate the three sciences: units with every number, word equations before symbols, diagrams practised until drawn from memoryNumericals come with a unit without being reminded
9Hold motion, matter and the cell together in the hardest year so farGaps are found and closed before Class 10 begins
10Teach every chapter with the board paper in view; begin timed sections earlyWhole sections finished inside the time, months ahead of the pre-board exams

Until Class 10, a single tutor for physics, chemistry and biology usually works well, because one person can tell a slip in calculation from a concept that never landed. How we approach the subject nationally is on the science home tutor page; for younger children, see the Class 6 or Class 8 science tutor page.

What does the UP Board High School science paper reward?

The UP Board, formally the Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh, holds the High School exam at the end of Class 10 and has had a regional office in Varanasi since 1978. In science it gives 70 marks to the written paper and 30 to practical work; a student needs 23 and 10 respectively to pass. The 2026-27 written marks fall into five units:

Chemical substances, 20 marks
Balanced equations and correct names of compounds. Guessed formulae are the usual leak.
World of living, 20 marks
Diagrams with every label present and spelt correctly, and processes told in order.
Effects of current, 13 marks
Circuit numericals with the formula named first and the unit written with the answer.
Natural phenomena, 12 marks
Ray diagrams drawn with a ruler, arrows on each ray and the image found by construction, not by eye.
Natural resources, 5 marks
Small but easy to lose if it is never revised.

On the day, the model paper runs three hours with a reading period at the start. Section A is one-mark multiple-choice questions on an OMR sheet; Section B is descriptive. Each section has three sub-sections, and the answers to a Section B sub-section must be written together, beginning on a fresh page. A student who hops between questions wastes both order and time, so the tutor should practise the layout on complete papers, not only the chapters. Because the board writes its model paper in Hindi, a child who answers in English needs a tutor at ease with both sets of terms. Our UP Board tutors in Varanasi page looks at the board across all subjects.

UP Board or CBSE: can one set of notes serve both?

The chapters overlap a great deal, which tempts families to share notes between cousins on different boards. The papers themselves are built in different ways:

Class 10 science in 2026-27: the UP Board High School paper and the CBSE paper compared point by point
PointUP BoardCBSE
Board paper70 marks80 marks

So notes can be shared, but practice papers and timing drills cannot.

How is the CBSE Class 10 science paper put together?

The 2026-27 sample paper has 39 questions: twenty worth one mark, six worth two, seven worth three, three case- or source-based questions of four marks, and three five-mark long answers. Across the 80 board marks, Chemical Substances and World of Living take 25 each, Natural Phenomena 12, Effects of Current 13 and Natural Resources 5. Measured by skill, 50% of the marks test knowing and understanding, 30% applying, and the last 20% analysing and evaluating. Each type of question needs its own practice:

  • One-markers: quick, exact recall, practised in short bursts.
  • Short answers: as many separate points as there are marks.
  • Case-based items: read the passage before the questions, and quote from it.
  • Long answers: a diagram or an equation in every one.

This year three topics stay out of the board paper and are assessed by the school instead: evolution; the periodic classification of elements; and the group made up of the electric motor, the generator and electromagnetic induction. Teach them properly, because Class 11 builds on them, but give revision weeks to the examined chapters. All students sit the main exam, and eligible students can choose a second, optional sitting to raise their score in as many as three subjects, science included; the 2027 dates are not announced yet, so keep an eye on cbse.gov.in. Chapter-by-chapter help is in our CBSE Class 10 science notes, the board-year planner spaces the months, and matching for the board year is explained on the Class 10 science tutor page.

Has CBSE Class 9 science changed?

Yes. For 2026-27, CBSE works from Exploration, the new NCERT textbook for Class 9. The school keeps 20 marks and the yearly exam has 80, divided as follows: the unit on matter, its nature and behaviour 27; motion, force, work and sound 23; the world of living 25; and Earth as a system 5. Notes passed down from an older brother or sister follow the old book in the old order, so lessons should be built from the new chapter list. More on the Class 9 science tutor page.

How is ICSE science different?

An ICSE Class 10 student sits three science papers, not one: CISCE sets Physics, Chemistry and Biology apart, and gives each its own internal assessment. Within the syllabus each school chooses its books, so the tutor should teach from the ones on your child's desk and practise from CISCE specimen papers instead of following an NCERT sequence. Exact definitions and numericals worked to the last line are what score. ICSE science specialists can take longer to find in Varanasi, so ask early; an online tutor for the one paper that needs most help can widen the choice.

What about the practical file and the viva?

On the UP Board, 30 of the High School science marks are practical. CBSE folds practical work into its internal 20 and lists 14 experiments, which board questions draw on as well. Lab equipment lives at school, yet three jobs can be done at home:

  1. A complete file. Each experiment written up with its aim, a diagram, the observation table, the result and the precautions, and checked page by page.
  2. The why behind each step. Your child should be able to say why a reading is repeated or why a precaution matters.
  3. Spoken rehearsal. Likely examiner questions answered aloud, in the language of the exam.

Looking over the file once every few weeks is far easier than rebuilding it in the month of the exam.

Six Varanasi neighbourhoods: fitting science in after school

Younger students are usually taught in the gap between getting home from school and the evening meal, which makes a short, regular journey for the tutor the deciding factor. Browse tutors by locality on our Varanasi page.

Six Varanasi neighbourhoods: the kind of home, the landmark to give, and a timing tip for a science tutor
NeighbourhoodHomesLandmark to giveTiming tip
SigraApartment blocks, houses and shop-fronts side by sideThe cricket stadium, then the lane and a nearby shopA fixed weekly time beats the crowded late-afternoon roads
MahmoorganjOlder family homes and newer multi-storey buildingsMahmoorganj Road, with floor and flat number for a buildingTell the guard the visit days in advance
ShivpurwaMany self-built homes on plots, some flatsHouse number, lane and a shop close byEvening traffic builds towards Sigra, so agree one regular slot
RathyatraApartments, houses and a few villas among shopsThe crossing itself or a shop beside itA lesson just before or after the busiest hours at the crossing
DurgakundIndependent houses and newer apartment buildingsThe pond at the centre of the areaThe road towards Lanka fills in the late afternoon; settle the slot early
NagwaHouses and apartment buildings, some still going upThe nearest main turning; register at the gate for a blockA time a little off the peak, since traffic around Lanka slows the last stretch

If the science tutor who suits your child is based across town, mixing a weekly visit with a weekly online lesson avoids two long journeys. Our article on choosing a home tutor or online tutor compares the two.

What should happen in a good science demo?

  • The lesson uses the chapter your child is on, from the school's own book.
  • Your child draws and labels at least one diagram; the tutor does not do all the drawing.
  • A numerical is set out as formula, substitution and unit, each on its own line.
  • Explanations come in the language your child understands, while terms are written exactly as the paper wants them.
  • By the end you know the plan for the coming week or two.

Not convinced? Another tutor from your shortlist can give a demo, and switching later costs nothing. The demo class checklist for parents suggests further questions.

What does a science home tutor in Varanasi charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees. The class, the journey to your home at your hour and the number of weekly lessons all shape a quote. You see each fee before any demo; the Varanasi home tuition fees article covers what to compare.

Science Home Tutor in Varanasi: common questions

What does a Classes 6 to 10 science home tutor in Varanasi charge per hour?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Science tutors set their own fees, shaped by the class, the journey at your hour and weekly lessons, and you compare every fee before choosing.

Which details about board, medium and lane help NXTutors suggest science tutors in Varanasi?

A Varanasi parent should send the class, board and medium, the part of science that is slipping, the neighbourhood with a landmark and the free afternoons. We reply with two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

How are the marks in UP Board High School science split for Varanasi students?

UP Board High School science gives Varanasi students 70 written marks and 30 practical marks, and a pass needs 23 and 10. For 2026-27, chemical substances and the world of living take 20 each, effects of current 13, natural phenomena 12 and natural resources 5. Confirm the current scheme on upmsp.edu.in.

Why does the UP Board science paper ask Varanasi students to group Section B answers?

The UP Board science model paper asks Varanasi students to write all answers to a Section B sub-section together, starting on a fresh page. Hopping between questions breaks that order and wastes time. A tutor should rehearse the layout on complete model papers, not only revise chapters one at a time.

Is a single science tutor enough for a Varanasi child in Classes 6 to 10?

One Varanasi tutor can usually handle physics, chemistry and biology until Class 10, because a single person can tell a concept gap from a calculation slip. If one strand later needs a specialist, an online tutor for that part alone can sit beside the home tutor without changing the whole plan.

Which CBSE Class 10 science chapters are school-assessed rather than board-examined for Varanasi students?

For Varanasi students in 2026-27, three CBSE Class 10 science areas are assessed by the school, not the board paper. They are evolution, the periodic classification of elements, and the electric motor with the generator and electromagnetic induction. Teach them properly, since Class 11 builds on them, but give revision weeks to examined chapters.

Should a Varanasi science tutor teach in Hindi or English?

A Varanasi science tutor should teach in the language of your child's answer sheet, not simply the language spoken at home. The UP Board model paper is set in Hindi and many students answer in Hindi, while others write in English. Tell us which, and whether a change of medium is coming.

Can a science tutor get to Durgakund or Nagwa in Varanasi straight after school?

A science tutor can often get to Durgakund or Nagwa in Varanasi straight after school, because many tutors live around Lanka, Bhelupur and Sunderpur nearby. The road towards Lanka fills from late afternoon, so agree a slot a little off the peak. In an apartment block, register the tutor at the gate first.

Is the CBSE Class 9 science book different for Varanasi students in 2026-27?

Yes, Varanasi students on CBSE Class 9 science use Exploration, NCERT's new textbook, from 2026-27. The yearly exam is worth 80 and the school adds 20: matter 27, motion, force, work and sound 23, the world of living 25 and Earth as a system 5. Hand-me-down notes follow the older book in the old order.

How is ICSE Class 10 science tutored differently for a Varanasi child?

An ICSE Class 10 child in Varanasi sits three separate science papers, physics, chemistry and biology, each with its own internal assessment. The tutor should teach from the school's chosen books and practise from CISCE specimen papers, not an NCERT sequence. ICSE specialists take longer to find here, so an online tutor for one paper can help.

Should Varanasi families mix home and online science lessons?

Mixing home and online science lessons suits Varanasi families when the right tutor is based across town. A weekly visit plus a weekly online lesson avoids two long journeys. Younger children usually need the home visit for diagrams and written working, so keep at least one lesson a week in the room.
