Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Varanasi, CBSE sits beside the UP Board, the CISCE boards and a small number of IB and IGCSE students, and families sometimes switch between CBSE and the state board as children move school. A CBSE tutor here therefore needs two skills: teaching NCERT so it holds up in competency questions, and teaching how CBSE wants an answer written, which is not the same as the state board's style. This page covers what CBSE asks for at each stage, the 2026-27 changes in Classes 9 and 10, the senior-class marks split, how to fit board work beside a coaching batch, how tutors reach your part of the city, and what to test at the free demo. Notes on Class 10 maths reflect Abhinandan Tiwary's role teaching CBSE and ICSE maths at that level; science notes reflect Aaditya Kashyap's role teaching CBSE and ICSE science.
Our Varanasi tutors page lists the boards students here sit: the UP Board, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and a few IB and IGCSE learners. We do not publish shares and do not guess them. What matters for tuition is the difference in what each board rewards.
| Point | CBSE | UP Board (UPMSP) |
|---|---|---|
| Board exams | Class 10 and Class 12 | High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) |
| Books | NCERT for every paper | Curricula and textbooks prescribed by the board |
| Where to read the rules | cbseacademic.nic.in: curriculum, sample papers and marking schemes each year | upmsp.edu.in: syllabus, model papers and notices |
| What a tutor must train | Competency questions and stepwise marking | The board's own paper style, in the student's medium |
A student changing from one board to the other should spend the first weeks on the new board's textbook wording and answer format, not on new chapters. If your child is on the state board, see our UP Board tutors in Varanasi page.
| Class | Assessed by | Usual stumbling block | Tutor's focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | The school | Fractions, integers, reading a science paragraph closely | Number sense and writing out working |
| 9 | The school: an 80-mark annual paper plus 20 internal | Algebra, geometry and three sciences all grow heavier at once | Regular chapter tests; whether to take the Advanced paper |
| 10 | CBSE: 80 marks on the board paper, 20 assessed in school | Unfamiliar application questions; presentation | Sample papers marked against the official scheme |
| 11 | The school | The jump in physics, chemistry and maths, often as coaching begins | Foundations before the board year |
| 12 | CBSE: theory plus practical or internal marks | Full-syllabus revision competing with entrance preparation | A single plan for both |
The pass mark in a Class 10 subject is 33%. Most "sudden" trouble in Class 9 maths traces back to fractions and early algebra, so a tutor in the middle years is worth more as a repairer of foundations than as someone racing ahead of the school.
Every Class 9 student sits a common maths paper and a common science paper of 80 marks. Beyond that, a student may opt for an Advanced paper in maths, science, both or neither: one hour, 25 marks, entirely higher-order questions on additional content. Advanced marks are kept out of the aggregate, and a score of 50% or more is recorded on the marksheet. The old Basic and Standard maths split is ending; the 2026-27 Class 10 batch is the last to follow it. Choose Advanced only in a subject your child already handles comfortably.
Class 10 has two board examinations. The first is compulsory for all. A student who passes may sit the second to improve marks in up to three subjects from science, maths, social science and the languages. Prepare for the first as though it were the only one. Roughly half of each secondary paper is competency-based: case passages, data, real situations and applications. During the transition, a third language is also compulsory, assessed by the school without a board paper.
| Subject (code) | Theory | Practical or internal |
|---|---|---|
| Physics (042), Chemistry (043), Biology (044) | 70 | 30 practical |
| Mathematics (041) or Applied Mathematics (241), only one | 80 | 20 internal |
| Accountancy (055), Economics (030), Business Studies (054) | 80 | 20 internal |
The Class 12 board paper covers the whole Class 12 syllabus, and CBSE has said senior papers will lean further towards real-life application. Each year's design arrives with the sample paper, so the tutor should be working from the current one. For the board year, see our guides to Class 12 physics, organic and inorganic chemistry and calculus and algebra.
A useful session has a shape you can recognise from the next room. It opens with the student's own attempts from the week, checked line by line, because that is where the real gaps show. The middle part takes one idea from the NCERT explanation through an exemplar question to a competency-style one, so the child sees the same concept dressed three ways. The last part is writing: one board-style answer produced in full and marked for steps, units, labelled diagrams and neatness. Many Varanasi children think in Hindi and write the paper in English; the tutor can explain in Hindi but should insist the written answer is in clear English every time. Ask for a short monthly note listing chapters covered, test marks and errors that keep returning. Two sessions a week of about an hour usually serve a Class 9 or 10 student better than one long weekend sitting.
For science, the session should also leave time for the parts of the course that are easy to neglect at home: reading an activity or experiment from the textbook and explaining what it shows, drawing and labelling the standard diagrams without copying, and balancing equations until it is automatic. In maths, a short spell on mental arithmetic and on checking answers by substitution saves careless marks that no amount of extra chapters will recover. None of this needs special material; NCERT, the exemplar book and the current sample paper are enough.
The Varanasi hub points out that entrance students gain from the shared NCERT base but often have to relearn how to write a complete, stepwise board answer. A CBSE tutor working alongside a batch should keep a list of NCERT chapters the batch hurried through and come back to them with board questions; set at least one fully written answer every session; and keep an eye on the practical file and internal work, which a batch never checks. If entrance help is needed too, see JEE and NEET home tutors in Varanasi.
The Varanasi home tuition guide covers every zone, including the centre and the Lanka side.
Home suits younger children, students who drift on a screen, and any subject where every line of working must be seen: maths, physics numericals, chemical equations, accountancy formats. Online suits a short doubt session on a batch day, a senior subject whose right tutor lives on the far side of the city, and days when summer heat, monsoon rain or winter fog make the trip unreasonable. Many families keep one tutor for both. Our home versus online comparison sets out the trade-offs, and the online tutors for Varanasi page explains how to arrange it.
Our national CBSE board hub explains the board in more depth.

Yes. Tell us the class, subjects, your locality with a landmark and the hours that are free. We shortlist two or three tutors who can reach you and show each fee before the demo. For a senior subject with no strong tutor nearby, we may suggest online lessons with a specialist alongside home classes.
Class 9 students take common maths and science papers of 80 marks and may add an optional one-hour, 25-mark Advanced paper that stays outside the aggregate. Class 10 has two board exams: the first is compulsory, and the second lets a student improve up to three subjects. Check cbseacademic.nic.in for updates.
CBSE builds every paper on NCERT and marks stepwise against its published schemes, with about half of each secondary paper competency-based. The UP Board sets papers from its own prescribed books and style. A student switching boards should first learn the new textbook wording and answer format before moving to new chapters.
Physics, chemistry and biology carry 70 theory marks and 30 practical marks. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, only one of which may be taken, carries 80 theory and 20 internal, as do accountancy, economics and business studies. The Class 12 paper covers the full Class 12 syllabus, so revision has to reach every chapter.
Yes, and that is a common need. The tutor returns to NCERT chapters the batch rushed, sets at least one fully written board answer every session, and keeps practical files and internal work on track. One revision calendar can then serve the board paper and the entrance syllabus together.
Yes. A tutor can explain a concept in Hindi and then insist that every written answer is in clear English, using the terms the paper uses. Kept up every week, that habit protects marks in the board paper. Tell us the language your child is most comfortable in when you send the request.
