What home tuition costs in Cuttack

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CBSE home tutors in Cuttack: NCERT read closely, answers written in full, Classes 6 to 12

Cuttack is the home of the state's secondary board, and many children here study in Odia-medium schools under BSE Odisha. A good share of English-medium schools, though, follow CBSE, and families on that board want a tutor who works from NCERT and the CBSE paper design rather than the state pattern. This page explains what CBSE expects at each stage under its 2026–27 curriculum, how it differs from the Odisha system a neighbour's child may be following, what a sound tutoring session looks like, and how tutors reach homes from College Square to Mahanadi Vihar. It is written for parents of Classes 6 to 12, with most detail on the board years.

CBSE beside BSE Odisha and CHSE

In Cuttack, a CBSE family's neighbours may be on any of three systems, and the differences explain why a tutor should be board-specific.

CBSE and the Odisha system, from each body's own documents
CBSEOdisha (BSE for Class 10, CHSE for +2)
Class 10 structureBoard papers of 80 marks with 20 internal in major subjects; a second board sitting to improve marksTwo terms, four internal assessments of 10 marks, an aspirational component of 20 in each term, half-yearly and annual examinations of 100
Classes 11 and 12Sciences 70 + 30 practical; maths and commerce papers 80 + 20CHSE +2 Arts, Science and Commerce; Class 12 maths 80 + 20 internal
Main textbooksNCERTBoard textbooks for Class 10; for +2 science, NCERT books alongside the state bureau's titles
Usual medium in CuttackEnglishOdia for most BSE schools; English and Odia in +2

So a tutor who has taught only the state papers needs to show they know the CBSE design, and the other way round. If your child is on the state board instead, see our Odisha Board home tutor in Cuttack page.

The CBSE road from Class 6 to Class 12

Where tuition helps a CBSE student in Cuttack, year by year
ClassesWhat is at stakeTutoring that pays off
6 to 8School tests onlyReading the NCERT chapter properly, full sentences, every maths step written
9The base for the Class 10 papers; an optional Advanced paperAlgebra and geometry groundwork; science diagrams and definitions
10Two board sittings; internal marksSample papers, competency questions, timed writing
11A stream chosen; a much harder syllabusEarly help in the subject that jumps most, often maths or physics
12The board papers plus practicals and internal workFull answers with steps and units; practical files kept current

The secondary years in the current CBSE scheme

In the major Class 10 subjects, CBSE sets a board paper of 80 marks with 20 internal marks, and a pass needs 33%. About half of each secondary paper is made of competency-focused questions. Class 9 brings one shared 80-mark paper each for maths and science. Beyond that, a student can opt for a 25-mark Advanced paper, in one of the two subjects, in both, or in none. Those Advanced marks do not enter the aggregate; the marksheet simply records any score at or above half. It suits a child who is already strong and curious, never one who is struggling.

The split between Basic and Standard maths is ending, with this session's Class 10 batch the final one to use it. There are also two Class 10 board sittings now. Everyone sits the first. A student who clears it can return for the second to raise the score in as many as three subjects, chosen from science, maths, social science and languages. Treat that second chance as insurance and prepare for the first as if it were the only one. Our posts on Class 10 maths preparation and Class 10 science notes go further.

Marks in the senior years

Theory and internal split for common Class 11–12 subjects, CBSE 2026–27
Paper and codeWritten paperRemaining marks
Biology 044, Chemistry 043, Physics 0427030 from practical work
Mathematics 041, or Applied Mathematics 241 in its place8020 internal assessment
Economics 030, Accountancy 055 and Business Studies 0548020 internal assessment

In the board year the paper covers the whole Class 12 syllabus, and CBSE has said senior papers will lean more on applying ideas to real situations. The sample paper published each year shows the current design, so confirm the tutor is using this year's. For the sciences, the 30 practical marks are earned across the year; a file left until the last month is a common, avoidable loss. For that year, read our posts on physics strategy, the two halves of chemistry and Class 12 calculus with algebra.

Competency questions start with reading

A competency question gives a short case, a data table, a source passage or an everyday situation, then asks the student to use an idea from the chapter. Children who know the textbook can still drop marks, because the first task is to read carefully and decide what is being asked. In science, try one passage in every session: underline the data, say aloud which chapter idea it calls for, and write only after that. In maths, the same habit means writing the equation from the words before any arithmetic. Practise from the NCERT exemplar book and the board's published sample papers, because ordinary worksheets seldom copy the style well.

Changing board after Class 10

In Cuttack some students finish Class 10 under CBSE and move to a CHSE +2 course, while others go the other way. Either move is workable with a little planning. A student moving to CHSE should know that the council's +2 science syllabi prescribe NCERT books for maths and physics, so content carries over, but the papers and internal assessment follow the council's own scheme, and the state bureau's titles sit on the book list as well. A student joining CBSE from BSE Odisha may have studied maths and science in Odia, and needs English technical terms built up quickly; a two-column glossary from the first week helps. The council also publishes a list of equivalent boards on chseodisha.nic.in, which is worth checking before admission. The guide to choosing a board and stream covers the wider decision.

Inside a well-run CBSE lesson

In Classes 9 and 10, a pair of mid-week sessions generally does more good than a single long Sunday. Each one should run in three steps:

  1. Corrections first. The student rewrites, under the tutor's eye, the questions lost in the most recent class test or homework.
  2. One idea taught properly. A single concept, built from the NCERT text, with an exemplar question to test it.
  3. One answer written against the clock. A board-style answer with steps, units or a labelled diagram, marked the way an examiner would.

In Classes 11 and 12, sessions are usually per subject, with the practical file and internal work checked at the start of each month.

Subjects Cuttack CBSE parents ask about

How CBSE tutors reach six Cuttack localities

Six localities and what to tell the tutor
LocalityHow tutors usually comeBefore the first visit
College SquareFrom the colonies around the crossingA quiet side road to stop on, such as one in Professor Colony or Ranihat Colony
MangalabagFrom the central wards towards the riverThe colony and lane, and whether you are near Mangalabag Main Road
BadambadiFrom Link Road or the old cityA landmark off the main road, not the bus terminus
KhannagarThrough the colonies between Link Road and the KathajodiThe colony name and, for a guarded colony, the tutor's name at the gate
MadhupatnaFrom the eastern end of Link RoadThe colony, such as Shankarpur or Bisinabar, and the lane
Mahanadi ViharFrom the colonies near the MahanadiBlock and plot number

For timing and address tips by zone, open Mangalabag, Ranihat and College Square, Badambadi and Link Road or Madhupatna, Naya Bazar and Mahanadi Vihar; the full list of localities sits on the Cuttack home tutors page.

At the table or on a screen

For Classes 6 to 10, a tutor at the table helps most: the tutor can watch a construction being drawn or a chemical equation balanced and correct it at once. In Classes 11 and 12, when practicals, school tests and perhaps an entrance class fill the week, one home session and one online session is often easier to keep. Online also widens the choice for less common subjects, such as Applied Mathematics or Accountancy, when nobody nearby teaches them. See online tuition in Cuttack and our home tutor or online tutor comparison.

Questions worth asking in the trial lesson

  1. Which year's CBSE sample paper are you teaching from, and for which classes?
  2. How will you practise competency questions with my child?
  3. For Class 10, how will you plan for the first board sitting, and when would the second be worth taking?
  4. How will you track the practical file and internal assessment?
  5. Which slot can you keep every week, from where you live?

If the fit is wrong, we arrange another demo, and changing tutor later costs nothing. More questions are in the demo class checklist.

Fees and getting started

CBSE Home Tutor in Cuttack (Classes 6–12): common questions

What is the fee for a CBSE home tutor in Cuttack?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each CBSE tutor in Cuttack sets their own rate, and you see it on the profile before booking.

How do I book a CBSE tutor for my child in Cuttack?

Send the class, subjects, school timetable and your locality with a landmark, and we reply with two or three matched CBSE tutors. Each fee is visible before you book. The first class is a free demo, and you can switch to another tutor later at no cost if the fit changes.

How is a CBSE tutor different from an Odisha board tutor in Cuttack?

A CBSE tutor works from NCERT and the CBSE paper design, while an Odisha board tutor follows the BSE Class 10 terms and the CHSE +2 scheme. BSE Class 10 runs internal assessments, aspirational components and half-yearly and annual examinations; CBSE sets 80-mark board papers with 20 internal marks in major subjects.

How do the two CBSE Class 10 board sittings work?

Every Class 10 student sits the first CBSE board examination, which is compulsory. A student who passes can take the second sitting to improve marks in up to three of science, maths, social science and the languages. Prepare for the first sitting as the real one and treat the second as insurance.

Should my Class 9 child in Cuttack take the CBSE Advanced paper?

Take the Advanced paper only if your child already enjoys and does well in maths or science. It is an optional 25-mark paper, kept out of the aggregate, though a score of 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. It is a stretch for a strong student, not a fix for weak marks.

How are CBSE Class 12 science and maths papers marked?

CBSE Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology carry a 70-mark theory paper and 30 marks of practical work. Mathematics, or Applied Mathematics instead, has an 80-mark paper with 20 internal marks, as do accountancy, business studies and economics. Keep the practical file current through the year rather than finishing it at the end.

Can my child move from CBSE Class 10 to a CHSE +2 course in Cuttack?

Yes, a CBSE Class 10 student can move to a CHSE +2 course, and the science content carries over well. The council prescribes NCERT books for +2 maths and physics, but its papers and internal assessment follow its own scheme. Check the equivalent boards list on chseodisha.nic.in before admission.

How do CBSE tutors reach College Square, Khannagar or Madhupatna?

CBSE tutors usually reach all three from neighbouring colonies. College Square is reached through the colonies around the crossing, Khannagar from the Link Road side towards the Kathajodi, and Madhupatna from the eastern end of Link Road. Suggest a quiet side road near College Square and share the colony and lane for the other two.

Are online CBSE classes a good option for a Cuttack student?

Online CBSE classes work well in Classes 11 and 12, often as one online session beside one home session. They also widen the choice for subjects such as Applied Mathematics or Accountancy when nobody nearby teaches them. For Classes 6 to 10, a tutor at the table usually helps more.
