Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Science changes shape quickly between Class 6 and Class 10. Early on it is one friendly subject full of activities; by Class 9 it has become three subjects in one book, and physics, chemistry and biology each bring their own symbols, numericals and labelled drawings. In Cuttack, children meet that change in Odia-medium classrooms under the state board and in English-medium ones under CBSE or ICSE, and a tutor needs to know which book and which examiner your child is working towards. NXTutors asks for the class, the board and your locality, and replies with a shortlist of two or three science tutors who fit them. Their fees are on the list before you meet anyone, and the first lesson is a free demo.
The CBSE and ICSE material here is written under Aaditya Kashyap's name. Each year asks something different of a tutor, and one quick check per stage lets a parent see whether lessons are on track:
| Class | Tutor concentrates on | A parent can check |
|---|---|---|
| 6 and 7 | Turning each activity in the textbook (NCERT's Curiosity in CBSE schools, the board's own book elsewhere) into one clear sentence and a neat sketch | Does your child use the science word, not the everyday one? |
| 8 | Separating the three sciences; the first word equations and numericals | Does every answer to a numerical carry a unit? |
| 9 | A big jump: motion graphs, the structure of matter and the cell in a single year | Are weak chapters repaired within weeks rather than left for later? |
| 10 | Each chapter practised the way the board paper will mark it | Has your child written one full section in exam conditions? |
Until the board year, one teacher for the whole of science is usually the simpler plan, since a single person can see whether a wrong physics answer was a sum gone wrong or a concept missing. How we match is set out on the national science home tutor page; for the year that catches many children out, see the Class 9 science tutor page.
The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, which has its main office here in Cuttack, runs the Annual HSC Examination when Class 10 ends, with a supplementary HSC examination later for those who need it. It publishes the Class 9 and Class 10 textbooks itself, and each school sends the board its internal assessment marks before the annual exam. We have not been able to confirm a published layout for the science paper, so we do not describe one; the current scheme and notices are on bseodisha.ac.in. What a parent can look for in a tutor:
Our Odisha board tutors in Cuttack page covers the board in more detail.
Out of 100, the board paper carries 80. The remaining 20 are the school's, split evenly across four items worth 5 apiece: periodic tests, multiple assessment, the portfolio and practical subject enrichment. Unit sizes differ a lot:
| Unit | Marks | Rehearse |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical Substances: reactions, acids and bases, metals, carbon compounds | 25 | Balanced equations and the names of compounds |
| World of Living: life processes, control, reproduction, heredity | 25 | Labelled diagrams and processes in the right order |
| Effects of Current: electricity and magnetic effects | 13 | Circuit numericals with units on each line |
| Natural Phenomena: light, the eye, the colourful world | 12 | Ray diagrams with arrowheads |
| Our Environment | 5 | Short definitions, revised rather than skipped |
Looked at by skill instead of topic, half the paper tests recall and understanding, 30% tests applying an idea and the last 20% asks a student to analyse or evaluate. For chapter help, open our CBSE Class 10 science notes; for a full board-year timetable, see the Class 10 science tutor page.
CBSE's 2026-27 sample paper has 39 questions. It opens with twenty one-mark items, some multiple-choice and some assertion–reason. Six short answers worth two marks follow, then seven worth three, three four-mark questions built on a case or a data source, and finally three long answers worth five. Practise each block in its own way, and give a short answer as many separate points as it has marks. The sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in are the practice material to trust.
In 2026-27 the board paper leaves out three topics that schools assess instead: evolution, the periodic classification of elements, and the cluster of ideas around electromagnetic induction, the electric generator and the motor. All three come back in Class 11, so they should be taught properly, but board revision time is better spent elsewhere. Board questions also draw on 14 experiments named in the curriculum, so a well-kept practical file doubles as revision.
Every student sits the main Class 10 exam. Afterwards, CBSE offers an optional extra attempt in up to three subjects, and science may be one of them. Its schedule appears on cbse.gov.in only. Our board-year planner lays out the months around both.
In 2026-27, Class 9 CBSE science runs on Exploration, the newer NCERT book, while the annual exam keeps its 80 written and 20 internal marks. Matter is weighted at 27, living things at 25, the motion, force, work and sound unit at 23 and Earth as a system at 5. Hand-me-down notes follow the old book, so plan from the new chapters.
For ICSE, Class 10 science means three papers, not one: CISCE sets Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately, and each has internal marks of its own. Each school picks textbooks that fit the CISCE syllabus, which is why a tutor should teach from the school's books and the council's specimen papers, not from an NCERT plan. Exact definitions and complete numerical working earn ICSE marks. Teachers with recent ICSE experience can take a little longer to find, so mention the board in your first message; an online tutor widens the choice.
For Classes 6 to 10, science usually fits between school and dinner, so a short, predictable trip for the tutor keeps lessons regular. Here is what to set up in six localities across the CDA sectors and the old city; every other locality is on our Cuttack page.
CDA Sector 6 was laid out on a grid, so the sector, block or plot number and lane, plus which side of the main sector road you are on, usually bring a tutor straight to the door. Name Satichoura or Krushak Bazar if you live near either. CDA Sector 10 lies at the far western edge, where the two rivers part; many families say they live on the Naraj side. A tutor who lives inside CDA is the practical choice there, with an online class for anything nobody nearby teaches.
Tulasipur stretches across three municipal wards in the western old city, so give the colony name, such as Revenue Colony or Sambadik Colony, along with the lane. Around Buxi Bazar, an old trading street on the cantonment side near the Barabati grounds, the main road gets busy from late afternoon; a lesson straight after school, or a tutor who knows the side lanes, keeps visits on time.
In Choudhury Bazar, at the heart of the old city, homes stand close together along narrow lanes; tell the tutor where a two-wheeler can be left and which door to use. Rajabagicha lies on the old city's southern edge towards the Kathajodi, and the name covers several streets, so say which side you live on and give the house number.
The western old city zone page adds local tips, while our Cuttack home tuition guide goes zone by zone.
Whatever the board, these are the places where care earns marks and haste loses them. A science tutor should keep returning to five habits:
In the free demo, ask the tutor to teach the chapter your child is on this week and notice whether these habits appear without prompting. Our demo class checklist has more to watch. If the first tutor is not right, another from your shortlist gives the next demo, and switching later costs nothing.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor decides their own rate. For Classes 6 to 10, ask every tutor on the shortlist what share of the year goes to fresh chapters and what share to revision, and whether a visit can become an online class during exam weeks. Fees appear on the shortlist before the demo; read the Cuttack home tuition fees guide for more questions to ask.
Tell us the class and board, the medium your child writes in, the part of science that troubles them, your locality with a lane and chhak, and the afternoons that are free. We send back two or three science tutors, each with a fee, and the one you prefer gives the free demo. When nobody suitable is free at your hour, we offer lessons online or partly online instead. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Classes 11 and 12 in Cuttack have their own physics, chemistry and biology pages; families nearby can compare science tutors in Bhubaneswar.
Science teachers in Cuttack who would like pupils near home can find current requests on Cuttack tuition jobs.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Science tutors in Cuttack set their own fees, and each fee is on the shortlist before the demo. Ask how the year will split between new chapters and revision.
After a Cuttack family shares the class, board, medium, weak area, locality and free afternoons, we send two or three science tutors with their fees. You choose one for a free demo. If the fit is wrong, another tutor from the shortlist gives a demo, and switching tutor later in the year is also free.
A science tutor in Cuttack should know that BSE Odisha holds the Annual HSC Examination after Class 10 and publishes its own Class 9 and 10 textbooks. Schools send internal assessment marks to the board before the exam, so school tests and practical work count. The current scheme is on bseodisha.ac.in, not in old guidebooks.
An Odia-medium child in Cuttack should write science answers in the terms used in the board textbook, even when a tutor first explains an idea in English. A child moving to English medium needs the opposite, with English terms built up gradually. Tell the tutor which medium your child writes in so lessons start at the right point.
For Cuttack students on CBSE, Chemical Substances and World of Living carry 25 marks each out of the 80 on the board paper. Effects of Current brings 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5. The school adds 20 internal marks across periodic tests, multiple assessment, the portfolio and practical subject enrichment.
In 2026-27, CBSE schools assess evolution, the periodic classification of elements, and electromagnetic induction with the generator and motor, so these stay off the board paper. A Cuttack tutor should teach them properly, since all three return in Class 11, but spend board revision weeks on the examined units instead.
A Cuttack Class 9 student on CBSE should use fresh notes because the 2026-27 course follows NCERT's newer book, Exploration. Matter carries 27 marks, the living world 25, motion, force, work and sound 23, and Earth as a system 5. Notes from an older sibling follow the earlier book and may not match.
An ICSE Class 10 student in Cuttack writes three science papers, because CISCE examines Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately, each with internal marks. Schools choose their own textbooks within the CISCE syllabus, so a tutor should follow those books and the council's specimen papers. Exact definitions and complete numerical working earn the marks.
Families in CDA Sector 6 should give the sector, block or plot, the lane and which side of the main sector road they live on. In CDA Sector 10, at the far western edge, saying the Naraj side helps. A tutor living inside CDA is the practical choice there, with an online class for rarer subjects.
A Cuttack science tutor should drill five habits until they are automatic before Class 10. They are ray diagrams with arrowheads, circuits with standard symbols, neatly labelled body systems, balanced equations with state symbols, and inheritance crosses written one generation at a time. Watch for these during the free demo, taught on your child's current school chapter.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
