Cuttack Home Tuition Guide: CDA, the Old City, Link Road and Mahanadi Vihar
Cuttack grew up on the land between two rivers, the Mahanadi to the north and the Kathajodi to the south, and that shape still decides how a tutor reaches a home. The planned CDA sectors spread out on the western side; the old city fills the middle, split loosely into a western and an eastern half; Mangalabag, Ranihat and College Square sit towards the Taladanda canal; Badambadi and Link Road form the south-east; and Madhupatna, Naya Bazar and Mahanadi Vihar make up the north-east. Below, all twenty localities we cover, zone by zone.
Landmarks a Cuttack tutor will know
One well-known reference point does more than a long address. Cuttack Junction, on the East Coast Railway, is close to Ranihat along the main road to the railway. The city's main bus terminus is at Badambadi. The ruins of Barabati Fort, with its moat and gate, stand on the Mahanadi side of the western old city, and the stadium grounds beside them are known across town. Link Road runs east to the Badambadi circle and joins NH-16 towards Bhubaneswar, and the road towards Paradeep leads out through the north-east.
| Zone | Reference points | How addresses work | Watch on a first visit |
|---|---|---|---|
| CDA and Bidanasi | The Kathajodi ring road; the Naraj side for the far sectors | Sector, block and plot on a grid; vihar names in Bidanasi | Long rides for tutors from the east of the city |
| Old City West | Barabati Fort ruins and the stadium grounds; Chandni Chowk itself | Colony or sahi name first, then the lane | Busy main roads from late afternoon |
| Old City East | Choudhury Bazar; the start of the Badambadi road at Dolamundai | Lane and colony; homes close together | Where a two-wheeler can stand |
| Mangalabag, Ranihat and College Square | College Square; Cuttack Junction; the Taladanda canal | Colony name, with the square only for directions | A crowded crossing through the day |
| Badambadi and Link Road | The Badambadi bus terminus and circle; NH-16 | Building, floor and flat for homes on the main road | Main roads crowded for much of the day |
| Madhupatna, Naya Bazar and Mahanadi Vihar | Madhupatna chhak; the road towards Paradeep | Block and plot in the township; two spellings in Naya Bazar | Stopping safely on the Paradeep road |
CDA and Bidanasi
Markat Nagar, the township almost everyone calls CDA, is a planned area of fifteen sectors, eleven of them residential, towards the head of the delta where the two rivers part. Bidanasi is its older neighbour to the north. Grid addresses make homes easy to find, and the far western sectors suit a tutor who already lives inside the township.
Bidanasi: the city was once known as Bidanasi Kataka, and the locality keeps the old name. Its ward takes in Tareni Vihar, Laxmi Vihar, Jyoti Vihar and Satabdi Vihar near the Mahanadi, so give the vihar first, then the lane and the nearest chhak.
CDA Sector 6: shares a ward with Sectors 1 and 2, Krushak Bazar and Satichoura. Send the block or plot number and say which side of the sector road you live on; if Satichoura is the nearer name, mention it as well.
CDA Sector 7: in the south of the township, bounded by the Kathajodi ring road, in one ward with Abhinaba Bidanasi. Many gate plates carry that second name, so write both. A landmark on the ring road helps a tutor coming in from the old city.
CDA Sector 10: on the far western side, in a ward that runs through Sectors 11 to 15 and on to the Naraj side. Ask for a tutor who already teaches in CDA for the weekday slot, and keep an online class ready for a subject nobody nearby covers.
Old City West: Tulasipur, Buxi Bazar and Chandni Chowk
The western half of the old city stretches from the Mahanadi to the Kathajodi, with the fort ruins and stadium grounds on the river side. Trading streets keep the main roads full from late afternoon, so lessons straight after school, or with a tutor who uses the side lanes, tend to start on time.
Tulasipur: spread over three municipal wards, with colonies such as Chahata Nagar, Srivihar Colony, Revenue Colony and Sambadik Colony. The colony name matters more than the locality name here.
Buxi Bazar: an old trading street on the cantonment side, with Khalasi Lane, KVK Road and parts of Sutahat and Patapur around it. Give the lane and a shop sign the tutor will spot, and suggest the side lane that avoids the main road.
Chandni Chowk: a central neighbourhood with the Kathajodi to its south and Ramgarh and Dagarpada in the same ward. The chowk is a reference point for the whole city, but several streets branch off it, so name your street as well as the chowk.
Old City East: Choudhury Bazar, Rajabagicha and Dolamundai
The eastern half of the old city has homes close together and narrow lanes. A tutor who already teaches a few streets away is the easiest match.
Choudhury Bazar: the heart of the old city, with Town Hall Road and Puri Ghat Road in its ward and the Kathajodi to the south. Agree at the start how festival weeks will be handled.
Rajabagicha: a residential pocket on the southern edge, towards the river, sharing its wards with Tala Telenga Bazar, Sarbodayapur and Jhanjirimangala. The name covers several streets, so say which side you are on and give the house number.
Dolamundai: on the eastern edge, where the road to Badambadi begins. Its ward lists Pithapur, Kothasahi, Labour Colony and Moon Light Lane. Name the colony and a chhak on the Badambadi road, and tutors from the Badambadi side can reach you without crossing the old city.
Mangalabag, Ranihat and College Square
This zone lies in the north-east of central Cuttack, between the Mahanadi and the Taladanda canal, which begins at the Jobra barrage on the river. The railway is close by, and the main crossing at College Square is crowded through much of the day. A quieter side road is worth naming for every first visit.
Mangalabag: runs up towards the Mahanadi, with Friends Colony, Nuapatana and Kathagola in its wards and Mangalabag Main Road along the north. Give the colony first; tutors who teach near College Square often come here as well.
Ranihat: lies between Bajrakabati Road on the west and the canal on the east, with the Ranihat main road on the north. Ranihat Colony and Professor Pada are names many families use. Say whether you are nearer the road or the canal side.
College Square: one of the busiest crossings in the city, surrounded by Ranihat Colony, Professor Colony, Friends Colony and Jobra Colony. Use the square only for directions, then give the colony, the lane and a calmer turning for the tutor to take.
Badambadi and Link Road
The south-eastern side is where the city meets the highway. Badambadi holds the main bus terminus, and Link Road runs from the Link Road crossing to the Badambadi circle before joining NH-16.
Badambadi: a busy junction with Badambadi Colony beside it and Dolamundai and Rajabagicha as neighbours. Give a landmark off the main road, never the junction itself, and consider a tutor who lives on the same side of town.
Link Road: homes sit in colonies such as Arunodaya Colony, Shankarpur and Surya Vihar, and many families live in flats above or behind the road. Send the building name, floor and flat number before the demo, and keep late evenings for online classes if the road is slow.
Khannagar: a residential area between Link Road and the Kathajodi, with Arunodaya Nagar and Judicial Colony in its wards. Where a colony has a guard at the entrance, pass the tutor's name and number to the gate before the first class.
Madhupatna, Naya Bazar and Mahanadi Vihar
The north-east lies across NH-16 from the old city, between the Mahanadi and the Taladanda canal.
Madhupatna: grows around the chhak at the eastern end of Link Road, with Shankarpur and Bisinabar in its ward and Madhu Patna Colony and Kalyan Nagar close by. It is also spelt Madhupatana. Say whether you are on the Link Road side or the highway side.
Chauliaganj: on the road towards Paradeep, with Anand Vihar, Kaibalya Vihar and Niladri Vihar in its wards and Mahanadi Vihar to the north. Several colonies have similar names, so give the vihar and lane, and for a home on the main road, a side lane where the tutor can stop.
Naya Bazar: written Nuabazar in the ward list, near Andarpur, Darakhapatana and Gosala Road. Write both spellings with the lane and a nearby chhak, so the tutor's phone map finds the right street.
Mahanadi Vihar: described as the first satellite city project in Odisha, laid out in numbered blocks and plots near the river. The block and plot number lead straight to the door, and tutors from Chauliaganj and Naya Bazar are near neighbours.
Boards and classes across Cuttack
Cuttack students follow the Odisha state boards, CBSE, or the CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and a few need IB or IGCSE help. In general terms, Odia-medium schools in the city follow the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, and English-medium schools follow CBSE or ICSE. BSE Odisha, whose main office is in Cuttack, conducts the Annual HSC Examination for Class 10 and a supplementary examination after it. The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha (CHSE) prepares the +2 syllabus for Arts, Science and Commerce and conducts the Class 12 examinations. Home, online or a mix
A tutor at the table suits younger children and students who work better with someone beside them. An online class suits a distant specialist or a late slot. Some Cuttack families also look at tutors in Bhubaneswar, mostly for online classes. An online tutor for Cuttack students can join a home plan at any stage. How NXTutors can help
Tell us the class, board, medium, subjects and your Cuttack locality. We suggest two or three matched tutors, nearest first, then your zone and the rest of the city, and online tutors from across India when they fit the subject better. You see each tutor's fee before the demo, the first class with each tutor is free, and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete, as described on how we check tutors.

Frequently asked questions
Which parts of Cuttack does this home tuition guide cover?
This guide covers twenty Cuttack localities in six zones, from the CDA sectors in the west to Mahanadi Vihar in the north-east. The zones are CDA and Bidanasi, the western and eastern old city, Mangalabag with Ranihat and College Square, Badambadi with Link Road, and Madhupatna with Naya Bazar. Each locality links to its own page.
What address details should we give a home tutor in Cuttack?
Give a Cuttack tutor the colony, vihar or sector first, then the lane, the house or plot number and a nearby chhak. In CDA and Mahanadi Vihar, block and plot numbers work well. In the old city, add where a two-wheeler can stand, and in Naya Bazar, write both spellings, Naya Bazar and Nuabazar.
Which boards do Cuttack students study under?
Cuttack students study under BSE Odisha for Class 10 and CHSE for Classes 11 and 12, or under CBSE or ICSE and ISC. In general, Odia-medium schools follow BSE Odisha and English-medium schools follow CBSE or ICSE. Tell us the board and the medium, so the tutors suggested teach from the right books.
Can a tutor in CDA also teach a student in the old city?
A tutor in CDA can teach a student in the old city when the route and the slot suit both sides. CDA sits on the western side and the old city is next to it, so many rides are manageable. Ask at the demo which parts of Cuttack the tutor already visits, and agree a time outside the busiest hours.
What happens if no home tutor lives near our Cuttack colony?
If no home tutor lives near your Cuttack colony, NXTutors widens the search in steps: your zone, then the rest of the city, then online tutors from across India. Families often keep a nearby tutor for one subject and add an online tutor for another. The first class with each tutor is still a free demo.
When should a Cuttack family review its tuition plan?
A Cuttack family should review its tuition plan at least when a child moves from Class 10 into Class 11. That is when BSE Odisha gives way to CHSE or another board's higher secondary syllabus, and depth rises sharply. One tutor per main subject is often easier from then on, especially in science and commerce.
