Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Kalyan and Dombivli, one building can hold families who speak Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam or Tamil at the dinner table, while their children write board papers in English. That mix is a strength, but it also explains why so many requests we get are about English: a Class 7 child who understands the chapter but writes broken sentences, a Class 10 student whose literature answers are too thin, or a teenager who freezes when asked to speak. Tell NXTutors the board, the skill that needs work and your locality. A shortlist of two or three English tutors follows, each fee visible in advance, and the opening lesson with your chosen tutor is a free demo.
"English tuition" covers very different jobs, and naming the right one in your request changes which tutor we suggest. Most requests fall into one of five kinds:
| Need | The sign at home | The tutor's first step |
|---|---|---|
| Early reading | Guessing words from the first letter; avoiding books | Reading aloud together and retelling the story |
| Writing and grammar | Ideas are there, but sentences break or tenses wander | Collect errors from the child's own work and fix them by type |
| Board literature | Short, vague answers that miss what the question asked | Answers planned in points and tied to lines from the text |
| A change of medium | Moving from Marathi or semi-English schooling into English-medium books | A bilingual start with a set point to switch fully to English |
| Spoken confidence | Knows the answer but will not say it aloud | Short spoken summaries every lesson, building to small talks |
Children here study on the Maharashtra State Board in Marathi, semi-English or English medium, or in CBSE and ICSE schools, and a few in international courses. The subject has one name but very different papers behind it:
The board's SSC list shows how many languages families here choose between. First languages include Marathi, Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, and languages such as Malayalam, Sindhi and Sanskrit can be taken as a second or third language. A child taking English as a first language and a child taking it alongside Marathi have different starting points, so tell the tutor which your child does.
The board publishes its schemes on mahahsscboard.in, and a tutor should plan from this year's scheme and the prescribed textbook, with the board's sample question papers for timed practice. Whatever the pattern, three habits pay off. Writing tasks such as letters, applications and summaries need their format learned once and then fresh content every week. Textbook answers need full English sentences, not phrases translated word by word from Marathi or Hindi. And grammar improves fastest when the tutor corrects the child's own writing rather than a worksheet. Our Maharashtra Board home tutor in Kalyan-Dombivli page covers the other SSC and HSC subjects.
CBSE students read the two NCERT books, First Flight and Footprints Without Feet, and the 2026-27 board paper is split like this:
| Section | Marks | Practice habit |
|---|---|---|
| Two reading passages, one discursive and one factual and case-based, built round a chart or data | 20 | One unseen passage a week, every answer traced to a line |
| Grammar items drawn from the syllabus | 10 | Errors from the child's own writing sorted and fixed by type |
| Writing: formal letter and analytical paragraph | 5 + 5 | Layout settled early; a new topic each week |
| Literature questions on First Flight and Footprints Without Feet | 40 | Answers in points, within the word limit, with the text quoted |
The school's 20 marks include 5 for listening and speaking. With literature worth half the written paper, two marked literature answers a week usually help more than another grammar sheet.
A child who changes medium faces a new language and new subject matter at the same moment. The tutor's task is to begin in both languages and finish in English, in steps the family can see:
Yes, and it supports exam marks too, since CBSE gives school marks for listening and speaking and ICSE assesses them internally. A tutor can end each lesson with the student summarising the day's passage aloud, then move on to short talks and question-and-answer practice. Where the real goal is speaking itself, perhaps for junior-college presentations, interviews or group discussion, mention it when you write to us; we would then suggest a different kind of tutor. Read our guide to spoken English for students for ideas.
In the early classes the aim is fluent, happy reading, not exam technique. A child who still reads slowly in Class 2 or 3 will find every subject heavier by Class 5. Shorter lessons on three or four days a week suit young children better than one long sitting: sounding out new words, reading aloud with gentle correction, and retelling the story in the child's own words. In a home where little English is spoken, picture books and simple stories give the tutor something to chat about in English, with the home language kept for moments when the child is truly stuck. Ask for a tutor used to primary classes.
On the State Board, HSC English is subject 01, and students with a strong interest can also take English Literature (22). In CBSE English Core, Class 11 gives 26 marks to reading, 23 to grammar and creative writing and 31 to literature; the Class 11 readers are Hornbill and Snapshots, and in Class 12 students read Flamingo and Vistas. ISC English pairs a language paper of composition, directed writing and a proposal with a separate literature paper. For IGCSE, find out from the school which English entry your child has; for IB Language A, the work is unseen analysis and the oral. Local specialists for these courses are few, which is why many families study them online. Each course is covered in more depth on the national English home tutor page.
The railway line divides both towns, and a tutor from your own side is usually easier to keep. These six localities are in Kalyan West, Kalyan East and the northern side; the Kalyan-Dombivli page lists every locality, Dombivli's included.
| Locality | Often asked for | Tell the tutor |
|---|---|---|
| Tisgaon | Written English for Classes 6 to 8 in homes where Hindi or Marathi is spoken; sometimes an online spoken-English class beside home maths | Kalyan East first, then Tisgaon, the lane, the building and the nearest naka |
| Adharwadi | Reading help for Class 2 or 3, or one tutor for two siblings on the same evening | A map pin, the building or chawl name and a shop near the entrance |
| Rambaug | Answers written in exam English by children who think in Marathi, Hindi or Gujarati | The lane, the shop beside your door and the nearest chowk, since lane names repeat |
| Katemanivali | Two children on different boards, needing two separate plans | Whether you are nearer Kolsewadi or the Vitthalwadi end, and the building's name or colour |
| Ambivli | Primary reading and neat handwriting, with a small weekly record of progress | Mohone side or Titwala side, plus a building or shop next to your gate |
| Khadakpada | Weekly writing practice for a child whose parents both work | Building, wing and floor, and who will be home when the tutor arrives |
The Kalyan West and Kalyan East zone pages add local detail, and the Kalyan-Dombivli home tuition guide compares every zone.
From around Class 3, English adapts well to a screen, provided the tutor receives the written work ahead of each lesson, whether as photos of the notebook or a shared document. Going online also opens the door to ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists. Sitting together helps more with early readers, with children in the first months of a change of medium, and with speaking practice. Our online tutors for Kalyan-Dombivli page explains how online lessons run. In the demo, check that:
If the fit is wrong, the next tutor on your shortlist gives a demo, and changing tutor later is free.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names their own fee. Useful questions when comparing: which board's English paper they have taught most, whether they mark written work sent between lessons, and how often they think your child should be taught each week. Every fee is shown before the demo; the Kalyan-Dombivli home tuition fees guide has more questions.
Tell us the class and board, whether English is a first or second language for your child, the skill that worries you, the languages spoken at home, your locality with a landmark and the times that suit. We reply with two or three English tutors and their fees, and you choose one for a free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Our Kalyan-Dombivli pages for maths and science cover other subjects; you can also compare English tutors in Mumbai and the Mumbai page.

Yes, the board's SSC subject list includes English as a first language, numbered 03, alongside Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. Other languages such as Malayalam, Sindhi and Sanskrit appear as second or third languages. A child taking English as a first language starts from a different point, so tell the tutor which applies.
Yes, English Literature is listed as a separate HSC subject, numbered 22, while English itself is subject 01. Students with a real interest in reading and writing about texts can take both. A tutor should plan from the board's current scheme on mahahsscboard.in and use its sample question papers for timed practice.
Start bilingual and finish in English, with a clear date when lessons switch fully to English. Two-way translation of short passages shows where word order and tense break down, and a daily reading log builds vocabulary. Ready openings for letters and literature answers help the child write with confidence long before the board years.
Literature deserves the largest share, because it carries 40 of the 80 board marks in CBSE Class 10 English for 2026-27. Reading carries 20, grammar 10 and writing 10, and writing means a formal letter and an analytical paragraph of 5 marks each. The school adds 20 internal marks, including 5 for listening and speaking, so literature practice deserves a large share of lesson time.
Yes, a tutor can build spoken English by ending each lesson with a spoken summary and moving on to short talks and questions. This also helps marks, since CBSE and ICSE assess listening and speaking. If speaking for interviews or junior-college presentations is the main goal, say so, because it changes which tutor we suggest.
Weekly writing practice in Classes 6 to 8 usually suits Tisgaon homes where Hindi or Marathi is the home language. A short paragraph, letter or summary corrected line by line builds clear English long before the board years. Some families keep a home tutor for maths and science and add an online class for spoken English.
Online English generally suits children from about Class 3, provided the tutor sees written work before each lesson as notebook photos or a shared file. Younger readers, children who have just changed medium and speaking practice usually do better at the same table. Many families mix one home visit with one online session each week.
A patient tutor can spend the first weeks on reading aloud, retelling stories and neat written answers before the school workbook. A child who reads slowly in Class 2 or 3 finds every subject harder by Class 5. Shorter lessons on three or four days a week work better than one long session for young children.
