Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE and ISC students in Kalyan and Dombivli are a minority beside the many State Board families, and that makes the choice of tutor matter more. The council's papers reward full, careful English answers in every subject, examine the three sciences separately and give real weight to internal work. This guide explains what the council asks for, where students in a many-language city tend to lose marks, how ISC rules shape Class 11, what changes if a student moves to the HSC after Class 10, and how tutors reach six localities in Dombivli.
Many tutors in the city teach mostly SSC and HSC students, and the habits that suit those papers do not always suit the council's. An ICSE examiner expects every step in a maths answer, exact terms in science and a properly built paragraph in history. A tutor who has marked council papers recently will spot a missing step or a loose definition at once. So the first question to any tutor is simple: which council classes have you taught recently, and at what level? Our authors for this page are Abhinandan Tiwary (Class 10 maths, CBSE and ICSE), Aaditya Kashyap (CBSE and ICSE science) and Ajay Vatsyayan (ISC maths, with IB and IGCSE).
| Group | What it contains | Exam : internal |
|---|---|---|
| Group I, compulsory | English, a second language, and History, Civics & Geography | 80 : 20 |
| Group II, two or three chosen | Usually Mathematics and Science, with economics, commercial studies, environmental science and languages also offered | 80 : 20 |
| Group III, one chosen | An applied subject such as Computer Applications, Art or Physical Education | 50 : 50 |
In Group III, half the marks come from work done through the year. That half is the easiest to secure and the easiest to waste.
ICSE Mathematics has a single 80-mark written paper. The other 20 marks come from at least two assignments, assessed by the school's teacher and an external examiner. The syllabus mixes commercial topics such as banking and shares with algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics, and examiners award marks for method. A right answer with skipped steps loses marks.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology each have their own 80-mark paper, plus 20 marks of practical work in school, so strength in one cannot cover weakness in another. Decide early whether one tutor will take all three or whether the weakest science goes to a specialist. The Kalyan-Dombivli physics, chemistry and biology pages go into each subject.
Homes across Kalyan-Dombivli speak Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and more. An ICSE child from such a home may understand photosynthesis or the causes of a war perfectly, then lose marks because the written answer is vague or out of order. English is effectively examined in every paper.
| Habit | How the tutor builds it |
|---|---|
| Exact subject terms | A glossary per subject, tested in short oral checks |
| Reading the instruction word | Explain, state, describe and give reasons practised as different tasks |
| Ordered answers | One full answer per session, marked once for content and once for expression |
| Thinking in one language, writing in another | Let the child say it in their own words first, then write it in English |
For English as a subject, see our English home tutor in Kalyan-Dombivli page.
Class 9 chapters return in the Class 10 papers, so revision has to run through both years. Ask the tutor for a rotation in which one session every few weeks goes back to an older chapter in each subject. Start timed writing in Class 9, since speed in long answers improves slowly. Keep a dated list of projects, practicals and maths assignments on the fridge or in the study corner and check it at the start of every month. Most sessions should mix three things: marking what your child has written since the last visit, teaching one new idea, and a single timed answer at the end.
| Stage | What is at stake | Where the tutor puts the effort |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 6 to 8 | School tests, and the habits that later papers depend on | Complete sentences, every maths step on paper, correct science words from the start |
| Class 9 | The first year of the two-year ICSE course | Diagrams practised weekly and older chapters revisited on a rotation |
| Class 10 | Council papers plus internal and Group III marks | Timed specimen papers, marked strictly, and a dated list of internal work |
| Class 11 | Electives fixed and promotion rules in force | The right combination, and an early start on the harder ISC chapters |
| Class 12 | ISC papers with practicals and projects | Depth in every elective and no missed submission |
A family that joins a tutor in Class 10 can still do well, but the first month should go on finding which of the Class 9 chapters never settled. Ask the tutor to set a short written test on them in the first week, then plan the term from what it shows rather than from the school's chapter list alone.
| Area | Rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Subjects | English plus three to five electives, six subjects at most | Choose electives with entrance exams and college plans in mind |
| Changes | Subjects are locked after a cut-off in the year of Class 11 registration, and nothing can be taken in Class 12 that was not studied in Class 11 | Settle the combination in the first weeks |
| Promotion | 35% in four subjects including English, and 75% attendance | Give the shakiest elective attention from term one |
| Practicals | Compulsory where a subject has them; Physics and Engineering Science cannot be taken together | Keep practical files up to date |
| Certificate | Grades 1 to 9; a pass needs four subjects including English, plus SUPW and Community Service | Finish the non-exam requirements well before the final term |
ISC Mathematics pairs an 80-mark theory paper with a 20-mark project in both years. See the ISC maths tutor page and our ICSE and ISC maths guide. Students aiming at engineering or medicine should map ISC chapters against NCERT early; our JEE and NEET pages for the city explain why.
Some ICSE students in Kalyan-Dombivli stay with the council for ISC. Others take an HSC seat in junior college, where every student also takes English (01) and two compulsory subjects, Health & Physical Education (30) and Environment Education & Water Security (31), with textbooks that follow a different order. A few move to CBSE and its NCERT books. Staying keeps a familiar writing style; moving brings a new pattern of questions. Whichever you choose, plan a short bridging stretch with the tutor before the new year begins, rather than finding the gaps in the first unit test. | Locality | Worth knowing | Send in advance |
|---|---|---|
| Vishnu Nagar | Central Dombivli West; board changes in the middle years are common | The board your child is leaving and the one they are joining |
| Kopar | Western side towards Reti Bunder; many senior students also attend a batch | The batch timetable and test dates |
| Gopal Nagar | Young families; strong English habits are easiest to set in Classes 1 to 5 | Colony, building and a shop or playground nearby |
| Ram Nagar | The busy centre of Dombivli East; evenings are crowded | A clear description of the entrance and a map pin |
| Sonarpada | Near the industrial area; many students here choose commerce after Class 10 | Whether you are on the Sagaon side or nearer the industrial area |
| Nandivli | Many home languages; ask for a tutor who can explain in yours | Building, lane and the road you enter from |
The Dombivli West, Dombivli East and Sagaon and Sonarpada zone pages say more, and the Kalyan-Dombivli home tuition guide covers Kalyan as well as Dombivli.
A tutor in the room is usually worth it for maths and for children in the junior classes. One science, an ISC elective or regular English writing practice can go to an online specialist, which helps when the nearest tutor with recent council experience lives across the railway line or in another town. A photo of a written answer, shared on the call, can be marked as closely as a notebook. Our online tuition in Kalyan-Dombivli page explains the set-up.

Council papers reward complete method, exact terms and well-built English answers in every subject. Many tutors in the city teach mainly SSC and HSC students, whose papers expect a different style. A tutor who has taught ICSE or ISC classes recently will mark the way the council marks and spot missing steps quickly.
ICSE Mathematics has one written paper of 80 marks and 20 internal marks. The internal marks come from at least two assignments, assessed by the school's teacher and an external examiner. Examiners give marks for method, so a correct answer with missing steps can still lose marks. A tutor should insist on full working.
Yes, ICSE Physics, Chemistry and Biology are three separate papers of 80 marks each, with 20 more marks from practical work in school. Strength in one science cannot make up for a weak paper in another. Families should decide early whether one tutor teaches all three or a specialist takes the weakest.
Group III is the one applied subject a student picks, such as Computer Applications, Art or Physical Education. It is marked half on the exam and half on internal work done through the year. Those internal marks are the easiest to secure and the easiest to lose, so keep a dated list of tasks.
An ISC student takes English plus three to five electives, with six subjects as the maximum. Subjects cannot be changed after a set date in the Class 11 registration year, and a Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11. Promotion needs 35% in four subjects including English and 75% attendance.
The student meets new subject codes, a different textbook order and the HSC's style of question. Every HSC student also takes English and two compulsory subjects, Health and Physical Education and Environment Education and Water Security. A short bridging plan with a tutor before junior college starts saves a difficult first term.
An ICSE child can let the explanation come in their home language first and then write it in English. Homes across Kalyan-Dombivli speak many languages, and children often understand more than their written answers show. A tutor should mark each answer once for content and once for expression, and keep a subject glossary.
Online lessons often work well for an ISC elective or for English writing practice. They help when the nearest tutor with recent council experience lives across the railway line or in another town. Maths and younger children usually do better with a tutor at home, so many families combine both formats.
