Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

For a Class 11 or 12 student in Kalyan and Dombivli who is thinking about medicine, biology is two subjects in one. The board wants complete answers in sentences, with diagrams drawn and labelled. NEET and the PCB group of MHT-CET want quick, exact recall, and a careless guess can cost marks. Junior college and coaching move through the chapters fast, and the gap they leave is personal: nobody checks whether this student can reproduce that textbook line, or marks the long answer, or looks at the journal. A home tutor fills it. Share the board, the class, the entrance plan and your locality with NXTutors, and two or three biology tutors are suggested with their fees. Your opening class with the one you pick is a free demo.
Take the human heart. A board question might ask the student to describe the double circulation with a labelled diagram; the marks come from the correct sequence, the right terms and a neat figure. An entrance question on the same chapter might offer four statements about the heart and ask which one is wrong; the mark comes from remembering one textbook line exactly. Both rest on the same NCERT pages, but they train different muscles. A good tutor plans for both every week rather than letting one crowd out the other.
| Board or test | How biology is assessed | Skill it rewards |
|---|---|---|
| HSC Biology (subject 56), State Board | Theory and practical across Standards XI and XII, per the board's current scheme | Full written answers in the textbook's terms and a kept-up journal |
| CBSE Biology (044) | A 70-mark theory paper and a 30-mark practical, in Class 11 and again in Class 12 | Close NCERT reading, case questions and a complete record |
| ISC Biology (863) | Theory of 70 in Class 12; practical 15, project 10 and file 5 | Well-labelled drawings and exact terminology |
| NEET (UG), 2026 bulletin | Half the paper: 90 questions out of 180, botany and zoology together | Exact recall at speed; four marks for a right answer and one lost for a wrong one |
| MHT-CET, PCB group | Run by the State CET Cell; pattern on cetcell.mahacet.org | Speed on board-level chapters |
| IB Diploma; IGCSE (Cambridge 0610, Edexcel 4BI1) | SL or HL in the IB; a single biology course at IGCSE | Reading data, lab skills, and for IB students a self-designed investigation |
Up to Class 10, biology is part of science; see our science home tutor in Kalyan-Dombivli page for those years.
Biology is subject 56 on the Maharashtra State Board's HSC list, and most students take it at a junior college in the science stream, often with MHT-CET or NEET in view. The board publishes its schemes on mahahsscboard.in, and the tutor should teach from the prescribed textbook and this year's scheme, using the board's sample question papers. Three things are worth asking for. A tutor who knows both the HSC paper and the entrance tests can say which chapters serve both and where practice must be separate. A tutor who checks the journal each fortnight keeps practical work from piling up. And for a student who studied science in Marathi or semi-English up to Standard X, a tutor who can explain in Marathi but insists on English terms in writing makes the move into junior college much smoother. The Maharashtra Board home tutor in Kalyan-Dombivli page covers the other subjects.
Each year's CBSE theory paper is out of 70. For 2026-27 the weight of each unit, with a note on how to treat it, is:
| Unit (class) | Marks | Tutoring note |
|---|---|---|
| Genetics and Evolution (12) | 20 | Problems every week from the first lesson |
| Human Physiology (11) | 18 | Flow charts of each system, redrawn from memory |
| Reproduction (12) | 16 | Labelled sections of flower, ovule and gametes |
| Diversity of Living Organisms (11); Cell: Structure and Function (11) | 15 each | Classification tables and organelle sketches |
| Plant Physiology (11); Biology and Human Welfare (12); Biotechnology (12) | 12 each | Process steps in order, with the names spelt right |
| Structural Organisation in Plants and Animals (11); Ecology (12) | 10 each | Short definitions and one diagram per topic |
Genetics is the unit to practise with problems from its first week, since crosses and pedigrees are skills rather than facts to recall. Human Physiology and the Cell unit from Class 11 return in NEET and in Class 12 revision, so a short second pass over both before Class 12 begins repays the time.
The ISC theory paper carries 70 marks: Reproduction 16, Genetics and Evolution 15, Ecology 15, Biology and Human Welfare 14 and Biotechnology 10. The other 30 come from practical work (15), a project (10) and the practical file (5). ISC examiners reward detailed, well-labelled diagrams and exact terms, so a tutor should ask for a drawing in most long answers and correct spelling as carefully as content. Teachers with recent ISC experience can be harder to find nearby, and an online specialist often fills that gap.
In the 2026 NEET (UG) bulletin, biology supplied 90 of the 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions, shared between botany and zoology, with physics and chemistry at 45 apiece and 720 marks in total. Each correct answer added four marks and each wrong one took away a mark, so a blind guess is a risk. The pattern is confirmed by NTA every year, while the syllabus comes from the National Medical Commission; check neet.nta.nic.in for the latest. For a tutor this means reading NCERT closely, diagrams, tables and examples included, setting timed objective work on older chapters, and keeping a log of mistakes from every mock. See our NEET home tutor in Kalyan-Dombivli page and the NCERT-first NEET biology guide.
Many students who plan for NEET or MHT-CET already attend coaching, and the home tutor's job is to support that, not repeat it. Four visits across a fortnight can keep board and entrance work moving together:
Keep the home slots clear of the coaching timetable. We compare the choices in our article on NEET coaching and home tutors.
Families across Kalyan-Dombivli speak Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and other languages at home, and senior biology adds hundreds of new English terms. A student can understand a process perfectly and still lose marks writing it down. Four habits help: saying each new term aloud and placing it on a labelled sketch; learning common roots and endings so an unfamiliar word can be worked out; a glossary in the student's own words, tested once a week; and discussing ideas in the home language if that helps, while every written answer stays in the language of the exam.
The practical carries 30 marks in CBSE, and ISC splits its non-theory marks between practical work, a project and the practical file; State Board students keep a journal under the board's own scheme. Experiments happen in the college lab, but a tutor can check each entry for aim, diagram, observation and conclusion, run spotting drills from photographs, and practise the viva by asking the purpose of every step. Filling the record a little each month spares the student a stressful catch-up just before the practical exam.
Senior students are often home only in the evening, so a tutor from your own side of the railway line is the one most likely to keep the slot. These six localities are in Kalyan West, Kalyan East and the north; the Kalyan-Dombivli page lists every locality, Dombivli's included.
Gauripada has many junior-college students in newer apartment buildings, some preparing for NEET or MHT-CET; give the society, tower or wing, and say whether the gate needs an entry slip. In Adharwadi, beside Khadakpada and Manisha Nagar, share a map pin, the building or chawl name and a shop near the entrance.
Families in Kolsewadi usually say Kalyan East before the colony, and a tutor who lives east of the tracks is easier to keep. In Katemanivali, towards the Vitthalwadi end, agree a regular slot and a backup if parents work changing shifts.
The Kalyan West and Titwala and Ambivli zone pages and the Kalyan-Dombivli home tuition guide add local detail. Senior biology also works well online, with diagrams drawn on a tablet or held to the camera; see our online tutors for Kalyan-Dombivli page.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees. When comparing, ask whether each tutor has taught HSC, CBSE or ISC biology recently, how they would balance board writing with NEET or MHT-CET practice, and whether a session can move online in test weeks. You see each fee before the demo; the Kalyan-Dombivli home tuition fees guide lists more questions.
Tell us the class and board, whether NEET or MHT-CET is planned, the chapters that worry you, the college and coaching days, the language your child is at ease in, your locality and your free times. We send two or three biology tutors with their fees, and you choose one for a free demo. Should that tutor not suit, another from the list gives a demo, and a later change is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Physics and chemistry are on our physics and chemistry pages for Kalyan-Dombivli; IGCSE and IB biology get fuller treatment on the national biology home tutor page, and families can compare biology tutors in Mumbai or the Pune page.

Send the class, the board and any entrance plan such as NEET or MHT-CET, plus the chapters that worry you. Add the college and coaching days, your child's preferred language, your locality and your free times. NXTutors replies with two or three biology tutors and their fees, the first class is a free demo, and changing tutor later costs nothing.
Yes, one tutor can prepare a student for both, because the board paper and NEET rest on the same NCERT chapters. The difference is the writing: board answers need full sentences and labelled diagrams, while NEET needs speed and exact recall. A good tutor plans some board writing and some timed objective practice every week.
Genetics and Evolution should come first, since it carries the most marks in CBSE Class 12 biology for 2026-27, 20 of the 70. Reproduction follows with 16, Biology and Human Welfare and Biotechnology carry 12 each, and Ecology 10. Genetics needs weekly problem practice from the start, because crosses and pedigrees are skills rather than facts.
ISC Class 12 biology has a 70-mark theory paper and 30 marks from practical work, a project and the practical file. Theory covers Reproduction 16, Genetics and Evolution 15, Ecology 15, Biology and Human Welfare 14 and Biotechnology 10, while practical work carries 15, the project 10 and the file 5. Examiners reward detailed diagrams and exact terms.
An HSC biology student needs a tutor who teaches from the prescribed textbook and current scheme, checks the journal regularly and links board chapters to MHT-CET or NEET. Biology is subject 56 on the State Board HSC list, and its scheme is published on mahahsscboard.in. Students moving from Marathi-medium science benefit from patient help with English terms.
Biology made up 90 of the 180 NEET (UG) questions in 2026, split between botany and zoology. A right answer earned four marks and a wrong one lost a mark, so careless guessing costs. Students should read NCERT closely, including diagrams and tables, practise timed objective sets on older chapters and keep an error log after every mock paper.
A tutor can help by having each new term said aloud, placed on a labelled sketch and added to a personal glossary quizzed weekly. Families here speak many home languages, and a student may understand a process yet lose marks writing it. Ideas can be discussed in the home language, but written answers should stay in the exam's language.
Yes, a tutor can check each record or journal entry for aim, diagram, observation and conclusion, even though experiments happen in the college lab. Spotting drills from photographs of slides and specimens, and viva practice on the purpose of each step, also suit home lessons. A record kept up each month avoids a rush before the practical exam.
A Gauripada family should give the society name, the tower or wing, and whether visitors need an entry slip at the gate. Many students in Gauripada are in junior college with full weeks of lectures and practicals, some preparing for NEET or MHT-CET, so weekend mornings often suit them. A map pin to the right gate helps too.
