UP Board tutors in Agra: get Class 9 and Class 11 right, and the board years follow

Talk about the UP Board usually centres on two moments: the High School exam at the end of Class 10 and the Intermediate exam at the end of Class 12. Yet the board's own documents put a lot of weight on the year before each one. Class 9 opens the High School course with new units and a project share of the marks, and Class 11 does the same for Intermediate, with papers far more demanding than anything in Class 10. Those are the years when a tutor changes the outcome most, and they are the focus of this page. We also explain which board office serves Agra, how to read the board's Hindi documents, how tutors reach your locality, and what to test in the free demo. Every board detail here comes from upmsp.edu.in, read for the 2026-27 session; check it again for your child's year.

The board in brief

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, which everyone calls the UP Board or UPMSP, dates from 1921, when an act of the United Provinces Legislative Council set it up at Prayagraj; its first examination followed in 1923. Its headquarters is still in Prayagraj. It conducts two public examinations: High School at Class 10 and Intermediate at Class 12. Over the decades it opened regional offices to share the work, at Meerut in 1973, Varanasi in 1978, Bareilly in 1981 and Prayagraj in 1987, and its website also lists one at Gorakhpur.

The board registers students well before they sit an exam. Its website carries advance registration for Classes 9 and 11 and exam registration for Classes 10 and 12, separately for school students and private candidates. Our UP Board page for Lucknow walks through those registration rules in detail, and the Noida page covers the High School maths and science papers; here we look at the foundation years.

Which board office serves an Agra student?

The board's contact page places Agra district under its Regional Office at Meerut, along with Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Mathura, Aligarh, Hathras, Kasganj and the other districts listed there. That office handles questions about examinations and results, duplicate certificates and mark sheets, migration, verification and scrutiny, for records from 1984 onwards. The same page lists a District Inspector of Schools for Agra and a Joint Director of Education based in Agra, with their contact numbers.

Why should a parent care? Because day-to-day questions about registration details, subjects or a missing document go first to the school, and only some issues travel further. Knowing that results, mark sheets and scrutiny sit with the Meerut office, not with any local tutor or agent, protects you from anyone who claims they can "fix" a result. A tutor's job is teaching; paperwork belongs with the school and the board's own offices. The board also posts notices on improvement and compartment applications on its home page; read the current one there rather than relying on hearsay.

Class 9: where High School is really decided

The 2026-27 Class 9 syllabus files show two things straight away. Both maths and science carry a 70-mark written paper, and the remaining 30 marks come from work done at school: project work in maths, and practical and project work in science. So nearly a third of each subject is earned through the year, not on one morning.

UP Board Class 9 maths and science, 2026-27
SubjectUnits (marks where the syllabus gives them)Where a tutor helps
Maths (928)Number systems, algebra, coordinate geometry, geometry, mensuration, statistics; 70 written + 30 projectAlgebra and geometry proofs are where marks drain; a weekly written set keeps them steady
Science (931)Matter: nature and behaviour 20; organisation in the living world 20; motion, force and work 25; food production 5; plus 30 practical and projectMotion, force and work carries the most marks and needs worked numericals every week

A Class 9 tutor should do three things. First, find and fix the gaps from earlier classes, because Class 9 algebra and the physics of motion expose them at once. Second, keep the project and practical work moving, supervising and checking it, never writing it for the student. Third, start the habit of full written answers now, with units and labelled diagrams, so Class 10 begins with practice rather than repair. The Class 9 subject list on the board's site also includes Hindi and Elementary Hindi, English, social science, agriculture and computer; our maths, science and English pages for Agra cover the main ones.

Class 11: the chemistry paper as an example of the jump

Class 11 is where many students who coasted through High School first struggle. The board's 2026-27 chemistry syllabus shows why: nine dense units, and a paper designed to test every level from quick recall to long working.

How the 70 marks of the Class 11 chemistry paper are laid out (2026-27 syllabus)
QuestionPartsMarks
1Six multiple-choice parts of one mark6
2 and 3Four parts of two marks in each8 + 8
4Four parts of three marks12
5Four parts of four marks16
6 and 7Two parts of five marks in each10 + 10

The paper runs for three hours, a separate practical exam carries the other 30 marks, and the syllabus asks for at least 8 marks of numerical questions. The units, with their marks, are: some basic concepts of chemistry 7, structure of the atom 8, classification of elements and periodicity 7, chemical bonding and molecular structure 7, thermodynamics 6, equilibrium 8, redox reactions 7, basic principles and techniques of organic chemistry 10, and hydrocarbons 10. Organic chemistry alone accounts for 20 of the 70.

For a tutor, the lesson is balance. Mole-concept and equilibrium numericals need regular written practice, because those 8 numerical marks are the easiest to lose through careless arithmetic. Organic chemistry needs a reaction notebook built from the first week, not crammed in spring. And the long five-mark parts reward a student who can write a structured answer with equations, which is a habit to train early. The chemistry tutors in Agra page covers the subject across boards.

Class 11 biology: five units, a third of the marks in the lab

The 2026-27 biology syllabus sets one 100-mark subject: a 70-mark written paper and 30 marks of practical work. The written marks fall across five units: diversity in the living world 14, structural organisation in plants and animals 12, cell structure and function 14, plant physiology 14, and human physiology 16. The structural organisation unit includes the frog's digestive, circulatory, respiratory, nervous and reproductive systems, which rewards students who can draw and label from memory.

A biology tutor for a UP Board Class 11 student should keep a diagram book, test terms in both Hindi and English, and leave time before the practical exam for the practical record. Students preparing for medical entrance alongside the board will find a fuller plan on our NEET home tutors in Agra page, and engineering aspirants on JEE home tutors in Agra. Reading the board's documents in Hindi

The syllabus files we read on upmsp.edu.in are published in Hindi, and their subject names, unit titles and instructions use Hindi technical terms. That matters in two ways. A student in an English-medium UP Board class needs to recognise those terms, because notices and syllabus documents use them. And a Hindi-medium student who later meets English-language entrance material needs the English terms too. A good tutor builds a two-column vocabulary list, Hindi and English, chapter by chapter, from Class 9 onwards.

When you ask for a tutor, give us the class, the medium your child writes answers in, and for Class 11 or 12 the Intermediate group (science, commerce, arts or agriculture, the four groups the board's career guidance covers). A tutor can explain in whatever language your child follows most easily, but written practice should match the language of the answer book.

The board's free material, and how a tutor should use it

Student resources on upmsp.edu.in and their use in tuition
ResourceWhat it isHow the tutor uses it
SyllabusSubject files with units and marksThe checklist for the year; every unit ticked off in writing
Monthly syllabusThe board's month-by-month teaching calendarLessons kept in step with school, so tuition is not months ahead or behind
Model papersThe board's own sample papersTimed practice in the last term, marked strictly
Question bankQuestions by subjectShort weekly sets on finished chapters
Formative assessment and booksGuidance on school-level assessment; textbook accessProject and practical work kept on track; the right textbook used

All of this is on the board's site at no cost. Ask any tutor which of these documents they used last term; a vague answer suggests they are teaching from an old guidebook.

A tutor's year with a UP Board student

  1. First month: a diagnostic on the previous class, the board's syllabus printed and annotated, a project and practical list with dates.
  2. Through the year: lessons in step with the monthly syllabus, a short written test every week or two, and one long answer marked each session.
  3. Mid-year: a cumulative test across all finished units, so early chapters do not fade.
  4. Last term: model papers under full timing, then a review sorting each lost mark into "did not know", "misread" or "ran out of time".

In Classes 10 and 12 the same plan applies, with more model papers and the board's registration and admit-card steps handled by the school. For a family choosing between boards for a younger child, our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Agra describe those routes, and the guide to choosing a board and stream lists the questions to ask.

How UP Board tutors reach six Agra localities

Six Agra localities: getting the tutor to the door
LocalityZoneWhat to share or plan
ShahganjCentral Agra and CanttBuilding name and floor for apartments; houses in the lanes get a doorstep visit
KhandariCentral Agra and CanttTell the guard to expect the tutor; avoid Khandari Crossing in the late afternoon
TajganjSouth AgraA shop or crossing as the landmark in the older lanes; the Taj Mahal metro station is close
Rajpur ChungiSouth AgraBlock and flat number in apartments; a slot clear of the Shamshabad Road peak
Trans Yamuna ColonyTrans-YamunaA time that misses the bridge rush; online for a specialist on the other bank
RambaghTrans-YamunaA landmark such as the crossing or a nearby shop; avoid office hours

North and West Agra have their own zone pages too: North Agra (Kamla Nagar and Dayal Bagh) and West Agra (Sikandra and Bodla). Every locality is on the Agra home tutors page, and the Agra home tuition guide covers travel and timing. Where no suitable tutor lives close, one home visit plus one online class a week is a steady plan; see online tutors for Agra.

Five questions for a UP Board tutor at the demo

  1. "Which class, group and medium have you taught on this board?" Hindi-medium Class 11 chemistry and English-medium Class 9 maths are different jobs.
  2. "Show me this year's syllabus for my child's subject." A tutor who has opened the current file finds it in seconds.
  3. "How will you handle the project and practical marks?" Listen for supervision and checking, never doing the work.
  4. "What will you do in the first month?" A diagnostic and a written plan beat "we'll start from chapter one".
  5. "Which route do you take to us?" A realistic answer predicts whether classes stay regular through winter.

UP Board Home Tutor in Agra (High School & Intermediate): common questions

How do I find a UP Board home tutor in Agra?

Tell us the class, the medium your child writes answers in, the Intermediate group if relevant, whether they are a school or private candidate, and your locality with a landmark. We send two or three matched tutors with fees shown before you book, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.

Which UP Board office handles Agra?

The board's contact page places Agra district under its Regional Office at Meerut, which deals with examinations, results, duplicate certificates and mark sheets, migration, verification and scrutiny. The head office is in Prayagraj. The same page lists a District Inspector of Schools for Agra. Everyday registration questions go to your school first.

How are UP Board Class 9 maths and science marked?

Under the 2026-27 syllabus files, each has a 70-mark written paper. The other 30 marks come from project work in maths, and from practical and project work done at school in science. In science, the motion, force and work unit carries 25 of the 70 written marks, the largest single share.

Why is Class 11 on the UP Board harder than Class 10?

The content and paper both step up. The 2026-27 Class 11 chemistry syllabus, for example, has nine units for a three-hour 70-mark paper, with parts from one mark to five marks and at least 8 marks of numericals. A tutor in Class 11 prevents a backlog that is hard to clear in Class 12.

What is in the UP Board Class 11 biology syllabus?

For 2026-27, a 70-mark written paper and 30 practical marks. The written marks cover diversity in the living world, structural organisation in plants and animals including the frog's organ systems, cell structure and function, plant physiology, and human physiology, which carries the most marks at 16.

Does the UP Board publish free study material?

Yes. Its website has the syllabus, a monthly syllabus, model papers, a question bank, formative assessment guidance and books, plus career guidance for the science, commerce, arts and agriculture groups. A good tutor works from these current files rather than an old guidebook, and keeps lessons in step with the monthly syllabus.

Should a UP Board tutor in Agra teach in Hindi or English?

In the medium your child writes the paper in. The syllabus files on the board's site are in Hindi, so English-medium students should still know the Hindi terms, and Hindi-medium students aiming at entrance exams need the English ones. A tutor can explain in either language, but written practice should match the answer book.

How much does a UP Board home tutor cost in Agra?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo.
