What home tuition costs in Agra

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Maths home tutor in Agra: the board decides the method, the colony decides the timetable

In one Agra lane, a Class 10 child may be writing the UP Board High School paper in Hindi while the child next door prepares for a CBSE Standard paper in English. Both are "maths", yet the marks are won differently. The city adds a second filter: a tutor who lives in Kamla Nagar can reach Balkeshwar easily after school, but a family in Sikandra or Avas Vikas Colony is usually better served by someone from the west side. Tell NXTutors the board, the class, the medium and your colony, and we send two or three maths tutors who fit. Every fee is on the shortlist before you meet anyone, and the first class is a free demo.

Whose maths paper is your child preparing for?

Ajay Vatsyayan writes the IB, IGCSE and ISC maths guidance on this page, and Abhinandan Tiwary writes the parts on Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths. Both start from the same question, because the examining body fixes the book, the layout of the answer and the kind of practice that pays.

UP Board High School maths: where do the 70 marks sit?

The Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh (UPMSP, usually called the UP Board) conducts the High School examination at the end of Class 10. Its 2026-27 maths syllabus gives 70 marks to the written paper and 30 to assessment inside the school, which includes project work. A student needs 23 in the paper and 10 in the internal part, 33 in all, to pass. The written marks are spread over seven units:

UP Board High School maths 2026-27: unit marks in the written paper and the habit a tutor should build for each
UnitMarksHabit to build
Algebra18Write the equation from the words before touching any numbers
Trigonometry12Draw the triangle first; heights and distances use only 30°, 45° and 60°, with no more than two right triangles
Geometry10A reason beside every statement in a proof
Mensuration10Units carried on every line, especially for combined solids
Statistics and probability10A neat frequency table before any mean or median
Number systems5Short questions answered fully, not rushed
Coordinate geometry5Formula written out, then substitution

The board's model paper shows the shape on the day: three hours plus a reading period at the start, a Section A of twenty one-mark multiple-choice questions marked on an OMR sheet, and a Section B worth 50 marks in five questions, each telling the student how many parts to attempt. The OMR sheet allows no cutting, eraser or whitener, so a tutor should run timed blocks on OMR-style sheets and teach the student to settle each answer in rough work first.

The board also publishes a monthly syllabus, which is a ready pacing guide for a tutor who wants to stay level with the school, and its site links to the NCERT textbooks. For 2026-27 the board has told schools to teach only books it has authorised, so practice should come from those, not from a guide printed for another board. Our UP Board tutors in Agra page covers the other subjects.

What changes in UP Board Intermediate maths?

In Classes 11 and 12 the UP Board sets maths as a single 100-mark paper, with no internal marks beside it. That makes the year-end paper everything, and the weights show where the weeks should go:

  • Class 11: algebra 35, sets and functions 28, coordinate geometry 15, statistics and probability 12, calculus 10. Functions and algebra carry well over half the paper and set up everything in Class 12.
  • Class 12: calculus 44, vectors and three-dimensional geometry 18, algebra 15, relations and functions 10, probability 8, linear programming 5. Calculus alone is close to half the marks.

The Class 12 model paper has nine compulsory questions, each stating how many of its parts to answer, with part marks rising from one-mark multiple-choice items to eight-mark questions. Long questions reward complete working, so a tutor should set at least one long question a week to be written out in full and marked against the model paper's layout.

For Agra district, the board's Meerut regional office handles result, mark-sheet and scrutiny queries, according to the contact page on upmsp.edu.in. Take dates and any change to the scheme from that site, not from a tutor's memory of last year.

Hindi or English: should the tutor match the medium?

Yes. The UP Board model papers for maths are set in Hindi, and many Agra students learn and answer in Hindi, others in English, and a fair number switch between the two at Class 9 or Class 11. Terms such as samantar shreni and arithmetic progression name the same idea, but a student who has learnt one and is taught in the other spends half the lesson translating. In your request, tell us the language of the answer sheet, not just the language spoken at home.

A student moving from a Hindi-medium UP Board school into an English-medium CBSE or ISC Class 11 needs a short bridge: a two-column list of terms, word problems read aloud in English and restated in the student's own words, and written solutions in English from the first week, even while the explanation is in Hindi.

CBSE maths in Class 10 and Class 12: what matters most?

The CBSE Class 10 paper for 2026-27 keeps last session's design: 80 board marks across seven units, led by algebra at 20 and geometry at 15, then trigonometry 12, statistics and probability 11, mensuration 10, and real numbers and coordinate geometry at 6 each. Sections A to E move from twenty one-mark items, mostly multiple-choice with two assertion–reason questions, through two-, three- and five-mark answers to three four-mark case studies. Calculators are not allowed, and π is 22/7 unless the question says otherwise.

The choice of level comes early. Standard and Basic cover the same chapters, but around three-quarters of Basic marks test remembering and understanding, against about 54% in Standard. If maths in Class 11 is possible, take Standard. From 2026, Class 10 students also have an optional second exam to improve up to three subjects, maths included; the 2027 dates are not yet out, so watch cbse.gov.in. The Class 10 maths preparation guide takes the chapters in order and the Class 10 maths tutor page shows how we match for that year.

In Class 12, CBSE asks 38 compulsory questions for 80 marks, with 35 of them on calculus. A student also aiming at JEE Main meets a different scoring rule: the 2026 Paper 1 had 25 maths questions among 75, twenty multiple-choice and five numerical, each worth +4 when right and −1 when wrong. Confirm the next pattern on jeemain.nta.nic.in. A good week gives one session to entrance problems and one to a board answer written out in full. The Class 12 calculus and algebra guide and the JEE maths topic-wise guide go further, and our JEE home tutors in Agra page explains entrance matching.

ICSE, ISC, IB and IGCSE maths in Agra

ICSE Class 10
A single 80-mark written paper and 20 marks of internal assessment. The ICSE Class 10 maths guide explains how working is judged.
ISC Class 12
For the 2027 and 2028 exams CISCE sets one 80-mark paper of seven units with no choice between Sections B and C, so vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability are compulsory. Calculus carries 35 marks, and two projects add 20, each marked for format, content, findings and viva. See the ICSE and ISC maths guide.
IB Diploma
Analysis and Approaches leans on algebra, functions, calculus and proof and includes a paper without a calculator; Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling and statistics with a graphic display calculator throughout. SL has 150 teaching hours and HL 240, and the exploration is 20% of the grade at both levels. Read the IB maths AA or AI guide.
Cambridge IGCSE
Core caps the grade at C; Extended runs from A* to G. Agree the tier with the school before entries close.

Tutors for these courses are fewer than for the UP Board or CBSE, so name the course in your first message. When nobody suitable can travel to you, an online specialist is the usual answer.

Six colonies on the north and west side: what to arrange before the first class

Most Agra tutors travel by two-wheeler, auto or car. The open section of the Agra Metro Yellow Line runs between Mankameshwar and Taj East Gate, on the south side, so for the colonies below the road is what counts. Compare tutors by locality on our Agra page.

North Agra

Kamla Nagar is a large colony divided into Blocks A to F, with sections such as Tejnagar, Natrajpuram and Karmyogi Enclave, and its own busy markets. Give the block along with the house or flat number, and choose an early slot, because the market streets fill in the evening. Dayal Bagh, on the northern edge, is mostly houses on open, planted streets, ringed by the New Agra colonies such as Tagore Nagar and Saraswati Puram along the 100 Feet Road. A tutor usually comes straight to the door and parks a two-wheeler without trouble.

West Agra

Sikandra sits on the Mathura road; houses with a gate are common, while apartment buildings need the tower and floor shared in advance, and the highway is busiest in the evening. Avas Vikas Colony is laid out in numbered sectors, so the sector number matters as much as the house number. Lohamandi mixes market streets with residential lanes; a tutor on a two-wheeler and a shop or crossing as a landmark make the first visit simple.

Central Agra

Civil Lines, beside the Sanjay Place business district, is mostly apartments and is easy to reach from almost any side of the city. Ask whether the guard needs the tutor's name, and fix an early-evening time, because office and market traffic around the business district builds in the late afternoon.

What does a sensible maths week look like?

Two sessions a week are a common starting point from Class 8; a Class 12 student with a JEE target may want three. Whatever the number, each week should hold the same four pieces:

Four pieces of a maths week, and how they differ for UP Board and CBSE students
PieceUP Board studentCBSE student
Catch up with schoolFollow the board's monthly syllabusFollow the school's term plan
Fix last week's errorsRedo the questions marked wrong, in the medium of the paperRedo them, then one similar question
Short timed blockOMR-style one-mark questionsSection A one-mark and assertion–reason items
One long answerA Section B or eight-mark question in fullA five-mark or case-study answer in full

Homework should be short enough to finish and checked at the start of the next session. For Classes 5 to 7, swap board questions for tables, fractions and word problems.

How can you tell, at the free demo, whether the tutor fits?

  1. A diagnosis first. The tutor asks your child to attempt something before explaining it.
  2. The right book. The lesson uses the textbook and papers of your child's board, not a generic guide.
  3. The right language. Explanation in the language your child follows, with answers written in the language of the exam.
  4. A plan you can see. By the end, you know what the next few sessions cover and what homework is set.

If the match is wrong, tell us and the next tutor on your shortlist takes a demo; changing tutor later is free too. Our demo class checklist for parents adds more questions to ask, and the home tutor or online tutor article helps if travel is the sticking point.

What does a maths home tutor in Agra charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees. The board and class, the tutor's experience with that paper, the journey to your colony at your hour and the number of sessions a week all move the figure, and you see each fee before choosing whom to meet. The Agra home tuition fees article explains what to ask.

What should your request include?

Send the class, the board (UP Board, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE), the medium of the answer sheet, your colony with a nearby market or crossing, the days and hours that work, and a budget. We reply with two or three matched maths tutors and their fees, and you choose one for a free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check. If no suitable tutor can reach your part of Agra at that hour, we suggest an online or mixed plan. NXTutors works from Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India; the national maths home tutor page shows how matching works elsewhere, and the Agra home tuition guide walks through every part of the city.

Maths teachers who live in Agra and want students close to home can see open requests on the Agra tuition jobs page.

Maths Home Tutor in Agra: common questions

How much does a maths home tutor in Agra cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor fixes their own rate, and every fee on your shortlist is visible before the demo.

How is UP Board High School maths marked?

The 2026-27 syllabus gives 70 marks to the written paper and 30 to school assessment with project work; a pass needs 23 and 10. Algebra carries 18 written marks, trigonometry 12, and geometry, mensuration and statistics 10 each. The paper opens with twenty one-mark questions answered on an OMR sheet.

Why does calculus matter so much in UP Board Class 12 maths?

Because it carries 44 of the 100 marks in the Intermediate paper, with vectors and three-dimensional geometry next at 18. There are no internal marks, so the written paper decides the result. A tutor should set one full-length calculus answer every week and check each step against the model paper.

Can the tutor teach maths in Hindi?

Yes, if you ask. The UP Board model papers for maths are set in Hindi, and many Agra students answer in Hindi while others write in English. Tell us the language of the answer sheet, and we look for a tutor who explains and marks in that language, using the same terms as the textbook.

Standard or Basic maths in CBSE Class 10?

Choose Standard if maths in Class 11 is at all likely. Both levels examine the same chapters for 80 board marks, but about three-quarters of Basic marks test recall and understanding, against roughly 54% in Standard. Schools fix the choice at registration, so ask for the deadline early in Class 10.

Do you have maths tutors for ISC, IB or IGCSE students in Agra?

We look for them on every request, though they are fewer than UP Board and CBSE tutors. Mention the course and exam year in your first message. If nobody suitable can travel to your colony, we suggest an online specialist, sometimes alongside a local tutor who checks written practice.

Can a tutor reach a home in Avas Vikas Colony or Sikandra?

Usually, yes. Avas Vikas Colony is laid out in numbered sectors, so share the sector as well as the house number. In Sikandra, give the tower and floor for apartment buildings. The Mathura road is busiest in the evening, so a slot fixed at the demo keeps classes regular.

Is a home maths tutor useful alongside JEE coaching?

Often, if the tutor does a different job from the batch. Coaching moves quickly through new chapters; a home tutor can clear the unsolved problems from the coaching sheet and keep the Class 12 board paper on track, whether that is the 100-mark UP Board paper or the CBSE paper with 35 calculus marks.
