Agra Home Tuition Guide: North, West, Central, South and East Agra
Agra spreads out on both banks of the Yamuna. The older city and its markets sit on the west bank, with Kamla Nagar and the colonies around Dayal Bagh to the north, Sikandra, Avas Vikas Colony and Bodla to the west, the Cantt side and Sadar Bazaar to the south-west, and Tajganj and Fatehabad Road to the south-east. Across the river lie Trans Yamuna Colony, Kalindi Vihar and Rambagh. Below, zone by zone: the homes, the way in and the timing that tends to work in each locality.
How do tutors get around Agra?
Most home tutors in Agra ride their own two-wheeler, and autos, cabs and city buses cover the rest. Railway stations make handy reference points: Agra Cantt near Sadar Bazaar, Raja ki Mandi near the north and centre, Agra City on Ghatia Road near Belanganj, and Agra Fort at Rakabganj. The first section of the Agra Metro's Yellow Line opened on 6 March 2024 and runs from Mankameshwar, which connects with Agra Fort station, to Taj East Gate, with Taj Mahal and Fatehabad Road among its stations.
| Zone | Links that matter | Homes you will find | First-visit habit |
|---|---|---|---|
| North Agra (Kamla Nagar and Dayal Bagh) | Dayal Bagh Road, the 100 Feet Road, Balkeshwar Road, Raja ki Mandi station | Houses, flats and plots in blocks and colonies | Block letter or colony name plus a market landmark |
| West Agra (Sikandra and Bodla) | The Mathura road, Karkunj Road, Bodla Road, the Agra to Bharatpur road | Independent houses, plotted colonies, some apartments | Sector number in Avas Vikas Colony; a map pin in newer pockets |
| Central Agra and Cantt | The highway at Khandari Crossing, Gwalior Road, Agra Cantt and Raja ki Mandi stations | Apartments, older homes, flats above market streets | Flat and block number; the tutor's name for the guard |
| South Agra (Tajganj and Fatehabad Road) | Fatehabad Road, Taj Road, Shamshabad Road, the Yellow Line | Old houses, villas, plotted layouts and apartment buildings | A shop or crossing rather than a house number in older lanes |
| Trans-Yamuna (East Agra) | The bridge roads, the 100 Feet and 80 Feet Roads, two national highways | Houses and flats, many with two bedrooms | A park or shop as landmark; a slot away from bridge traffic |
North Agra (Kamla Nagar and Dayal Bagh)
Established colonies with busy markets, ringed by newer colonies often called New Agra.
- Kamla Nagar: a large residential and commercial colony divided into Blocks A to F. Give the block, and the building and floor for flats. Market streets fill up in the evening, so an early slot works well.
- Dayal Bagh: houses set in an open, green layout on the northern edge, surrounded by colonies such as Tagore Nagar, Sarla Bagh and Kabir Nagar. Raja ki Mandi is the nearest railway station. Tutors usually come straight to the door.
- Balkeshwar Colony: a residential pocket next to Kamla Nagar along Balkeshwar Road, with lanes such as Sitaram Colony and Balkeshwar Kunj. House numbers can be hard to follow in the inner lanes, so share the market or nearest crossing.
West Agra (Sikandra and Bodla)
Planned sectors and plotted colonies along the Mathura road.
- Sikandra: the north-western suburb on the Mathura road, with a large tomb as its main landmark. Autos and buses along the main road are the usual way in. For apartment buildings, share the tower and floor. Fix a time early, as the highway is busiest in the evening.
- Avas Vikas Colony: a planned colony in numbered sectors, including Sectors 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 12, between Sikandra and Bodla. Always give the sector number with the house number.
- Shastripuram: plotted colonies of independent houses and villas near Paschim Puri and Sikandra, with some pockets still being built on. Send a map pin for the first visit.
- Bodla: mostly independent houses, part of the wider Lohamandi area and beside Sectors 5 and 6 of Avas Vikas Colony. Share the lane name and a nearby shop, and fix the class away from the evening rush at Bodla crossing.
- Lohamandi: an established area mixing market streets with residential lanes, close to Raja ki Mandi station. In narrow lanes, a tutor on a two-wheeler is the practical choice, and a shop or crossing makes the clearest landmark.
Central Agra and Cantt
The busy middle of the city and the Cantonment side, reachable from almost any direction.
- Civil Lines: a central neighbourhood next to the city's main business district, with mainly ready apartments. Raja ki Mandi and Agra City stations are close. Share the block and flat number and check whether the guard needs the tutor's name.
- Khandari: a lively area around Khandari Crossing on the highway, next to Azad Nagar, with apartments alongside houses and shops. Tell the guard when a tutor is expected, and avoid the evening rush at the crossing.
- Sadar Bazaar: the main market of the Cantonment side, close to Agra Cantt station. The market is busiest in the evening, so a tutor should arrive before or after the crowd. Homes inside cantonment areas may have entry checks, so share the tutor's name in advance.
- Shahganj: a residential area near Avadhpuri Colony and Albatiya, with two-bedroom apartments and houses in the lanes. Give the building name and floor for flats.
South Agra (Tajganj and Fatehabad Road)
The old quarter near the Taj Mahal and the long Fatehabad Road stretch beyond it, the side of the city served by the Yellow Line.
- Tajganj: old houses alongside newer apartment buildings and villas. Taj Mahal and Fatehabad Road metro stations serve this side. Lanes are narrow, so a two-wheeler suits, and roads near the monument carry visitor traffic through the day, so pick a time when it eases.
- Fatehabad Road: a long road with residential colonies, plotted layouts and apartment buildings behind its businesses. A tutor coming from the Agra Fort side can take the Yellow Line and an auto for the last leg. Apartment gates usually ask for visitor details.
- Rajpur Chungi: a mixed area near Sainik Nagar and Vibhav Nagar on Shamshabad Road, with houses, plotted layouts and newer apartments. Parking near the market is tight, so ask the tutor to come before or after the evening rush.
Trans-Yamuna (East Agra)
The colonies on the east bank of the river, reached from the city side by the bridge roads.
- Trans Yamuna Colony: houses and flats, most often with two bedrooms, near Nunihai, Naraich and Rambagh. Agree a time that avoids office-hour traffic on the bridges.
- Kalindi Vihar: a residential colony of ready two-bedroom homes with parks and tree-lined streets, linked by the 100 Feet Road, 80 Feet Road and Kalindi Vihar Road. Share the block, house number and a park or shop.
- Rambagh: houses, flats and small markets on the east bank, named after the old riverside garden that remains its main landmark. Give a crossing or shop as a landmark for houses, and the building and floor for flats.
Home or online: how to decide in Agra
A regular home tutor suits a family most when they live on the same side of the river and can keep one fixed weekly slot. When the specialist your child needs lives across the Yamuna, an online class removes the crossing; many families pair the two. Frequently asked questions
Which boards can NXTutors match tutors for in Agra?
NXTutors matches tutors in Agra for UP Board (UPMSP), CBSE and ICSE/ISC, and for families who want IB or IGCSE help. Matches are at home where tutors live nearby and online across India. Give the board and class in your request, and for UP Board ask whether the tutor teaches in Hindi or English.
Can a tutor from Kamla Nagar teach my child in Trans Yamuna Colony?
Yes, a tutor from Kamla Nagar can often teach in Trans Yamuna Colony, since tutors regularly cross the Yamuna from Kamla Nagar or the city centre. The bridge roads are slowest at office hours, so agree a fixed slot outside them. If no nearby tutor fits, an online tutor for the specialist subject saves the crossing on busy weekdays.
Does Agra's Yellow Line help tutors reach Tajganj and Fatehabad Road?
Yes, the Agra Metro Yellow Line helps tutors reach Tajganj and Fatehabad Road, with Taj Mahal and Fatehabad Road stations on its first section. Open since 6 March 2024, that section runs from Mankameshwar, next to Agra Fort station, to Taj East Gate. A tutor can ride it and take an auto for the last leg to your home.
What should we share before a tutor's first visit in Agra?
Before a tutor's first visit in Agra, share the block or sector number, the building and floor for a flat, and a landmark such as a market, crossing or park. In Avas Vikas Colony give the sector; in older lanes of Tajganj or Lohamandi give a shop. Tell your building's guard, or cantonment entry staff, the tutor's name.
How many tutors will NXTutors suggest in Agra?
NXTutors suggests two or three matched tutors for each Agra request, starting with those nearest your home and widening to your zone, the rest of Agra and online tutors. You see each tutor's fee before booking, the first class with each is a free demo, and you can switch tutor later at no cost if the fit changes.
Should we choose a home or an online tutor in Agra?
A home tutor in Agra works well when the family and the tutor live on the same side of the Yamuna and can keep one fixed weekly slot. When the specialist your child needs lives across the river, an online class removes the crossing. Many families pair the two: a nearby home tutor for regular subjects and an online specialist.
