Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

For a child on the state syllabus in Asansol, two official bodies set the work. WBBSE, the secondary board, is in charge until Class 10 and conducts the Madhyamik Pariksha that closes that stage. WBCHSE, the Higher Secondary Council, runs Classes 11 and 12 and now examines them in four semesters, two objective and two written. A tutor who knows both bodies' rules can plan a whole year around them instead of reacting to each test. This page draws only on what the board and the Council publish on their own websites, and it explains how home tuition in Asansol can follow those rules, from Kulti and Barakar in the west to Raniganj and Jamuria in the east. Always check the newest notice on the official site before you fix a plan.
WBBSE describes itself as dating from 1951. It works through four regional council offices, and its Burdwan office lists Paschim Burdwan among the districts it covers, which is the district Asansol sits in. WBCHSE was set up under a state Act of 1975, has its main office in Salt Lake with four regional offices, and recently marked fifty years. People tend to say "the West Bengal board" for both, but notices, syllabuses and routines are posted separately, so it helps to know which site to open.
| Classes | Body | How the year is tested |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | WBBSE | Formative assessment and three school summatives |
| 9 and 10 | WBBSE | Internal formative evaluation, three summatives, then Madhyamik after Class 10 |
| 11 | WBCHSE | Semester I (objective) and Semester II (written), both run by the school |
| 12 | WBCHSE | Semester III (objective) and Semester IV (written), run by the Council at centres |
Families on CBSE or CISCE can turn to the Asansol pages for CBSE tutors and for ICSE and ISC tutors.
The board's 2026 calendar sets a routine structure for every class. In Class 6, children study a first and a second language, mathematics from Ganit Prabha, and three "environment" subjects with their own books: Paribesh-o-Bigyan for science, Atit-o-Aitijya for history and Amader Prithibi for geography, along with health, physical education, art and work education. Classes 7 and 8 add a third language. Learning is checked through formative assessment during the year and summatives at set points.
These are the years to settle habits a Madhyamik student will need: arithmetic done neatly without a calculator, science answers written in full sentences in the medium of the school, and maps and diagrams labelled with care. A tutor at this stage should repair before racing ahead. Our maths and science pages for Asansol go into each subject.
The calendar's grid for Classes 9 and 10 has eight slots across 44 weekly periods: two languages; mathematics, using the Ganit Prakash books; four subjects that each carry "& Environment" in their names (Physical Science, Life Science, History and Geography); and one optional elective. Schools also hold an internal formative evaluation in these two classes, and the calendar's list of activities for Classes 9 and 10 includes mock tests.
On 13 July 2026 the board published the Madhyamik 2027 programme: eleven days in February 2027, from the 15th to the 25th, with a single paper on each exam day. Candidates get a quarter of an hour from 10:45 am just to read the question paper before writing begins, and the main papers close at 2:00 pm. The notification reserves the board's right to alter the timetable, so rely on the copy on its website.
| Date (2027) | Paper |
|---|---|
| 15 February | First language (twelve options, among them Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali, Santali and English) |
| 16 February | Second language (English for most candidates; Bengali or Nepali for those whose first language is English) |
| 18 and 19 February | History, then Geography |
| 22 February | Mathematics |
| 23 and 24 February | Physical Science, then Life Science |
| 25 February | Optional elective subjects |
Two lessons for a tutor follow. Maths, Physical Science and Life Science sit in the closing days, once the languages, History and Geography are over, which leaves little room to revise them mid-exam; that revision has to be complete by early February. And because Asansol families use Bengali, Hindi or English as the medium, the student should practise writing answers in the exam's language with the textbook's own terms, even if the tutor explains in another.
The Council's examination FAQ sets out the system. Class 11 holds Semesters I and II and Class 12 holds III and IV. The odd-numbered semesters are objective; the even-numbered ones are written in ordinary answer booklets. Class 11 papers are run inside the school, while the Class 12 papers are held by the Council at exam centres under its centre-venue system. The usual months are September for the objective papers and March for the written ones. For the 2027 examination, the Council's routine placed Semester III between 21 September and 7 October 2026, each paper lasting an hour and a half. For Semester I, schools supply the OMR sheet, which the Council advises but does not require.
| Subject | Topics and marks |
|---|---|
| Mathematics (40) | Relations, functions and inverse trigonometry 7; matrices and determinants 10; continuity, differentiability and applications of derivatives 15; probability 8 |
| Physics (35) | Electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effect of current and electromagnetic induction 8 each; electromagnetic waves 3 |
| Accountancy (40 of 80 theory) | Partnership firms 15; companies 10; analysis of financial statements 15 |
Whatever is not in the objective semester is examined in writing in March, so a tutor needs both skills in every subject: accurate, timed option work and complete written answers. Subject help is on our Asansol physics, chemistry, biology and English pages.
You will not find the words science, commerce or arts on the Council's subject page. Instead, alongside the language pair, each student picks three compulsory electives and may add a fourth, optional one, and every elective must come from the same set.
| Set | Core tuition subjects | A few alternatives listed |
|---|---|---|
| Set I, the science group | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Science | Statistics, Computer Science, Agriculture, Anthropology, Science of Well Being, Fisheries and Aquaculture |
| Set II, the commerce group | Accountancy, Costing and Taxation, Business Studies | Economics or Applied Artificial Intelligence; Mathematics or Business Mathematics and Basic Statistics |
| Set III, the humanities group | Political Science, History, Philosophy, Sociology | Journalism and Mass Communication, Human Development and Resource Management, Persian, Arabic |
Vocational subjects exist in some approved schools; choosing one rules out four electives (Economics, Music, Visual Arts and Physical Education). The language pair works one of two ways: English first with a second language such as Bengali, Hindi or Alternative English, or a first language such as Bengali, Hindi, Urdu or Santhali with English second. For the stream decision itself, read our board and stream guide.
The Council publishes a list of equivalent boards. It names CBSE and CISCE, and also the Jharkhand Academic Council, which matters on the western side of Asansol: Barakar sits on the river at the state border, and some families there have links on both sides. A student finishing Class 10 on any of these can enter Higher Secondary in Class 11.
Most of this can be fixed during the first term of Class 11 with a tutor who knows both sides. Our post on choosing between WBBSE, CBSE and ICSE was written for Kolkata but compares the boards in detail.
| Year | Where the tutor's effort goes | Sessions |
|---|---|---|
| Class 9 | Each Ganit Prakash chapter in turn; answers written in the medium of the exam; a push before every summative | Usually twice weekly |
| Class 10 | All chapters done before the December summative; full papers under time in the winter; revision lined up with the February order | Twice, rising to three in winter |
| Class 11 | September: speed and accuracy on options. March: written answers and a complete practical file | Per subject, once or twice |
| Class 12 | Semester III objective work, then the Semester IV written paper, practicals and any entrance test | More often near March |
WBJEE, the state engineering entrance, is conducted by its own board rather than the Council; read its website for the pattern, and our WBJEE tutors page for planning. National entrance help is on the Asansol JEE and NEET pages.
State-board tuition tends to run for a full school year or longer, several evenings a week, so the tutor's journey matters as much as the subject. From our Asansol zone guides:
Zone pages: Kulti, Neamatpur and Barakar, Burnpur and Rabindra Nagar and Raniganj and Jamuria. Every locality is on the Asansol home tutors page, and the Asansol home tuition guide covers the city zone by zone. Families elsewhere in the state can see Durgapur or the West Bengal board tutors in Kolkata page.
Madhyamik maths and Physical Science reward a tutor at the table, who sees each step and diagram as it is drawn. The objective semesters suit short online drills: twenty questions against a timer, marked the moment they are done. Many families settle on a home visit for long answers plus a weekly online slot for option practice, leaning on the online slot in holiday weeks. Read online tuition in Asansol and our comparison of home and online tutoring.
Each request brings two or three matched tutors, with fees visible before the demo. The demo itself costs nothing, and neither does a later switch. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how we check tutors). The demo class checklist lists more to look for.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Our pricing guide and the post on home tuition fees in Asansol explain what moves a quote.

The board's routine, notified on 13 July 2026, runs Madhyamik 2027 from 15 to 25 February 2027, one paper a day. Reading time is 10:45 to 11:00 am and most papers end at 2:00 pm. The board may change the schedule, so check wbbse.wb.gov.in before planning revision.
A WBBSE Class 9 or 10 student studies two languages, mathematics, four Environment subjects and an optional elective. The four are Physical Science, Life Science, History and Geography, and maths uses the Ganit Prakash books. The board's 2026 calendar spreads these over 44 periods a week, with an internal formative evaluation alongside.
Semesters I and III are multiple-choice, while Semesters II and IV are written papers, according to the Council's examination FAQ. Schools conduct the two Class 11 semesters and the Council conducts the Class 12 ones at centres. The objective papers normally fall in September and the written ones in March.
No, the Council allows no calculator in any semester examination, including Accountancy, other commerce papers and practicals. Students moving from boards that allow one should rebuild hand arithmetic early in Class 11. A tutor can add short, timed calculation drills to every commerce or science session.
A student needs 30 per cent in five subjects, the two languages and any three electives, with theory and project or practical passed separately. The five strongest results count. Semesters I and II must also be cleared before Semester III, and the course must be passed within seven years of registration.
Yes, the Council lists the Jharkhand Academic Council among its equivalent boards, so a student can enter Class 11 from it. Expect objective papers in Semester I and no calculator. Tell the tutor which languages your child studied before, because the language group often needs the most catching up.
No, the board's calendar repeats a 2018 Gazette rule that teachers in recognised schools must not take private tuition for personal gain. Your child's home tutor should therefore come from outside the school. That also keeps the tutor's feedback independent of the classroom.
Evenings and weekend mornings usually work, because the board's calendar runs the school day from 10:40 am to 4:30 pm, with a shorter Saturday. Pick two or three fixed evenings and keep them through the year, adding extra sessions before each summative in April, August and December.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
