Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CBSE families in Asansol live beside a strong state system. Neighbours' children may be in Madhyamik or Higher Secondary classes, cousins may study under the Jharkhand board across the river at Barakar, and some students switch between these routes after Class 10. A CBSE tutor is worth paying for when the brief is clear: NCERT chapters genuinely understood, the competency questions CBSE now sets practised properly, and board answers written in full while entrance work or a change of school competes for attention. Read on for the CBSE route stage by stage, this session's changes to Classes 9 and 10, senior marking, the contrast with the West Bengal boards and the way tutors travel to six localities. The Class 10 maths notes are by Abhinandan Tiwary, who teaches maths to Class 10 CBSE and ICSE students; the science notes are by Aaditya Kashyap, a CBSE and ICSE science teacher.
Asansol students follow the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education up to Madhyamik, the Higher Secondary Council for Classes 11 and 12, CBSE, or CISCE's ICSE and ISC. We do not publish a share for each, because no reliable figures exist. For tuition, three differences matter more.
| Point | CBSE | WBBSE (Madhyamik) |
|---|---|---|
| Books | NCERT | The board's own, such as Ganit Prakash for maths |
| Science | One science subject | Physical Science and Environment, and Life Science and Environment, as separate subjects |
| School year | Set by the school within CBSE rules | A calendar year: books by January, three summatives normally in early April, August and December |
A tutor who teaches one route should show they know the other before taking on a student who has switched or is about to. Our West Bengal board tutors in Asansol page covers Madhyamik and Higher Secondary in detail.
| Class | Examined by | Where students stumble | What a tutor does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6–8 | Own school | Fractions, signed numbers, slow reading of science text | Mends the basics and insists on written steps |
| 9 | Own school | Algebra and science both get harder at once | Sets a short test each chapter; helps decide on Advanced |
| 10 | The board: 80, with 20 assessed in school | Case-based items; answers that stop halfway | Marks sample papers with the board's own scheme |
| 11 | Own school | Physics, chemistry and maths jump in difficulty | Secures the base the Class 12 paper stands on |
| 12 | The board, with practical or internal marks | Whole-syllabus revision beside entrance tests | Keeps one timetable for both |
Each Class 10 subject needs 33% to pass. When algebra "suddenly" goes wrong in Class 9, the cause usually lies in fractions or early equations from the middle-school years, so tuition at that age should mend first and rush later.
In Class 9, maths and science each have one shared 80-mark paper for everybody. Students can also choose an extra 25-mark Advanced paper in either subject, in both, or skip it; every question there is higher-order and goes beyond the main book. The Advanced score is not added to the aggregate, but the marksheet records it when it reaches half marks. The old Basic and Standard maths options are on their way out, with the 2026–27 Class 10 batch the final one to use them. Abhinandan's view for maths: Advanced suits a child who already likes the subject and is not a way to patch gaps.
Class 10 students now get two board sittings. Everyone must take the first. Those who pass may return for the second to raise their marks in as many as three of these: science, maths, social science, languages. Plan as if the first sitting were the only one; the second is insurance.
| Papers | Written exam | Other component |
|---|---|---|
| Physics 042, Chemistry 043, Biology 044 | 70 | 30 for practical work |
| Mathematics 041, or Applied Mathematics 241 in its place | 80 | 20 internal |
| Accountancy 055, Business Studies 054, Economics 030 | 80 | 20 internal |
The Class 12 board paper spans the full year, and the board has signalled more questions that apply ideas to real situations. Each year's pattern comes out with that year's sample paper, so a tutor still using an old one is a warning sign. In the board year, start with our posts on Class 12 physics strategies, organic and inorganic chemistry and Class 12 calculus and algebra.
Roughly half of every CBSE secondary paper is competency-based: a short case, a data table or an everyday situation, followed by questions that check whether an idea can be used. A student who knows the chapter can still drop marks, because the first step is reading, not recalling. Aaditya's routine for science is simple: in each session, take one passage, mark what is given, name the idea it points to, and only then begin the answer. In maths the same habit means turning the words into an equation before any arithmetic. The right practice material is the NCERT exemplar book and the board's sample papers; off-the-shelf worksheets seldom match the style. For students who also prepare for entrance tests, this careful reading pays off twice.
A switch can go either way in Asansol, and the first months decide how smooth it feels.
Whichever way your child moves, tell the tutor the board left, the board joined and the language papers now taken. The board and stream guide helps with the decision.
For Classes 9 and 10, a pair of mid-week sessions usually beats a single marathon on Sunday. Each visit should open with the errors from the most recent school test, traced back to the relevant NCERT paragraph. Next comes one fresh idea: book exercises first, then an exemplar or case-based item that uses it. The visit closes with a single answer written out completely and checked for working, units, labelled figures and neatness. A child who thinks in Bengali or Hindi can hear the explanation that way and still be asked to write in plain English, as the paper requires. Once a month, ask for a few lines listing the chapters done, the marks scored and the errors that repeat.
Zone pages for Burnpur and Rabindra Nagar, Kulti, Neamatpur and Barakar and Raniganj and Jamuria add timing tips, and the Asansol home tuition guide goes zone by zone.
Sitting together works better for young children, for anyone easily distracted by a screen, and wherever the written working is the point, as in algebra, physics numericals, balanced equations and ledger formats. A screen works for a quick doubt on a crowded weekday, for a senior subject whose ideal tutor lives on the other side of the corporation, and for homes at the edges, such as Dihika or the outer pockets of Jamuria. Often one tutor does both. See online tuition in Asansol and our home versus online comparison.
Our shortlist for you has two or three matched tutors. Fees are visible up front, the opening lesson is free, and a later change of tutor is free as well. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how we check tutors).

The biggest differences are the books and the way science is split. CBSE teaches from NCERT with one science subject, while the West Bengal board uses its own books, such as Ganit Prakash, and separates Physical Science and Life Science. Exam styles differ too, so a tutor should know which route your child follows.
Yes, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education lists CBSE among its equivalent boards, so the move is open. Expect objective Semester I and III papers and no calculator in any semester exam. A tutor should start timed option practice and mental arithmetic in the first weeks of Class 11.
Take the Advanced maths paper only if your child already enjoys maths and finds the main course comfortable. It is an optional 25-mark paper of higher-order questions, kept outside the aggregate, though a score of half marks or more is recorded on the marksheet. It is not a way to fix weak basics.
The second Class 10 sitting lets a student who passed the first improve marks in up to three subjects. The choices are science, maths, social science and the languages. The first sitting is compulsory, so plan for it as the real exam and treat the second as a back-up.
A tutor living in the same belt is the practical choice, so a Kulti or Barakar family should look first at tutors from Kulti or Neamatpur. Jamuria families should start the address with their pocket, such as Jamuria Hat, Nandi or Sripur. Online sessions can cover a senior subject when no nearby tutor is free.
A tutor should teach reading before solving, because about half of each secondary paper is competency-based. In each session, the student takes one case or data table, marks what is given and names the idea before writing. NCERT exemplar problems and the board's current sample papers are the right practice material.
Yes, a tutor can explain in Bengali or Hindi and still expect English answers, if you ask for it. The tutor explains in the language your child thinks in, then asks for the written answer in clear English, as the paper requires. Mention the preferred language when you book the demo.
