Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A maths lesson in Asansol can mean very different things from one house to the next. One child is working through the state board's Class 9 book for Madhyamik, an older cousin is preparing multiple-choice semester tests for the Higher Secondary Council, and a neighbour in a CBSE or ICSE school is choosing between two levels of the Class 10 paper. Share the class, the board, the medium and your neighbourhood with NXTutors, and a shortlist of two or three maths tutors who fit all four comes back to you. Each tutor's fee is on that shortlist, and your opening lesson is a free demo.
Two named authors stand behind the exam notes here. Ajay Vatsyayan wrote the ISC, IB and IGCSE maths parts, and Abhinandan Tiwary wrote the Class 10 sections for CBSE and ICSE. The West Bengal material comes from the board's and the Council's own published files. Pick out the line that describes your child; its right-hand cell is a sensible thing to ask in your first call with a tutor.
| Course | Body | Assessment | Worth asking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Madhyamik maths (Classes 9 and 10) | WBBSE, the state's secondary board | School summative tests through the year, then the Madhyamik Pariksha | Do you teach from the board's own maths book, and in my child's medium? |
| Higher Secondary maths (Classes 11 and 12) | WBCHSE, the state's higher secondary council | Each class: 40 objective marks in one semester, 40 written in the next | How will you prepare for one-mark objective questions without a calculator? |
| CBSE Class 10, Standard or Basic | CBSE | Board paper of 80; school-based 20 | On what evidence would you pick the level for my child? |
| CBSE Class 12 | CBSE | 38 compulsory questions for 80, and 20 internal | In which month do you start calculus? |
| ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) | CISCE | 80 for the written paper; 20 for assignments or projects | Are your notes for the current exam year? |
| IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE | IB; Cambridge | IB papers with an exploration; IGCSE entered at Core or Extended | When did you last teach this course or tier? |
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education lists Mathematics among the core subjects of Classes 9 and 10, taught from the board's own textbook, Ganit Prakash. Its yearly academic calendar fixes three summative evaluations, usually held early in April, early in August and early in December, with Internal Formative Evaluation running alongside in both classes. For a tutor, that calendar is the natural spine of the year:
Children in Asansol study in Bengali, Hindi or English medium; answers should use the terms of the child's own textbook, whatever language a tutor explains in. The Madhyamik routine and scheme are published by the board; take them from wbbse.wb.gov.in rather than from a guidebook. Our West Bengal board tutors in Asansol page covers the other Madhyamik and Higher Secondary subjects.
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education now runs Classes 11 and 12 in four semesters. Semesters I and II, in Class 11, are conducted by the school; Semesters III and IV, in Class 12, are conducted by the Council at exam centres. The Council's own answers to parents say Semesters I and III are normally held in September and II and IV in March, and that every Semester I and III paper is multiple choice. Maths is worth 80 theory marks in Class 11 and again in Class 12: half come from objective questions, half from short and descriptive answers. Calculators are barred from every semester examination.
| Topic group | Marks | What the tutor should drill |
|---|---|---|
| Calculus: continuity, differentiability and applications of derivatives | 15 | Derivative rules done quickly and accurately in the head, plus maxima, minima and rate questions |
| Algebra: matrices and determinants | 10 | Products, inverses and determinant properties, checked by a quick second method |
| Probability | 8 | Conditional probability and Bayes-type questions set out on rough paper before choosing an option |
| Relations and functions; inverse trigonometric functions | 7 | Domain and range, and the principal value of each inverse function |
Objective papers punish guessing from the shape of the options, so a tutor should time sets of one-mark questions and ask the student to justify each choice aloud. Semester IV turns back to written answers, covering vectors, 3D geometry, integration with its uses, differential equations and linear programming, so full working returns to the centre after the winter. The Council also expects a pass in two languages and three electives, with theory and project or practical passed separately, so a maths student should not let the project slide. Check every schedule on wbchse.wb.gov.in.
Under the 2026-27 scheme, fourteen NCERT chapters in seven units share the 80 board marks. Algebra, which takes in polynomials, linear equation pairs, quadratics and arithmetic progressions, is the biggest block at 20. Geometry follows at 15, then trigonometry (heights and distances included) at 12, statistics with probability at 11, mensuration at 10, and real numbers and coordinate geometry at 6 apiece.
The paper runs in five lettered sections: A, twenty one-mark items (eighteen multiple-choice, two assertion–reason); B, five questions of two marks; C, six of three; D, four of five; E, three case studies of four. No calculator may be used, and π means 22/7 unless a question states another value. Both levels cover the same chapters, but Basic leans far more on recall: about three-quarters of its marks test remembering and understanding, compared with just over half in Standard. That is why a student who might choose maths in Class 11 is better off on Standard. CBSE now also runs an optional second Class 10 sitting where a student can try to raise up to three subject scores; follow cbse.gov.in for when it happens. For more, see the Class 10 maths preparation guide, the board-year planner and our Class 10 maths tutor page.
Some senior students in Asansol already attend a coaching class and want a home tutor only for the gaps. Then the tutor should not repeat the lecture; three narrower jobs help more:
If JEE Main is also on the plan: in 2026, Paper 1 had 25 maths questions, of which 20 offered options and 5 asked for a numerical value; a right answer added four marks and a wrong one took away one. NTA can change this, so read the current bulletin at jeemain.nta.nic.in. WBJEE has its own conducting board, so take its details from that board's site. Few local tutors teach these courses, so name the course in your first message; an online specialist plus a local tutor who marks practice is a workable fallback.
These central, eastern and northern neighbourhoods sit close together, so a tutor from the next lane is often the steadiest choice. Compare tutors by locality on our Asansol page.
| Neighbourhood | Where it sits | Describe the address with | Agree in advance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Court More | A central crossroads, Ward 52, with Hill View, Kumarpur and Shristinagar close by | The road you live on and the corner nearest to you | An early-morning or weekend slot if the after-school hour is already taken |
| Kanyapur | The northern side of the centre, Ward 20, beside the Kalyanpur Housing Estate wards | Whether you are nearer the Court More end or the Kalyanpur end | A back-up slot for weeks when senior practicals move the timetable |
| Ushagram | A large eastern neighbourhood over Wards 38 to 40, along the Grand Trunk Road | The block or inner road first, then the nearest GT Road crossing | Revision rounds before each Higher Secondary semester |
| Murgasol | Between the centre and the east, close to GT Road, next to Ushagram and Hutton Road | The lane you turn into from GT Road, and the floor if you live in a flat | Which chapters the tutor covers, if a coaching class already takes the rest |
| Railpar | A wide northern area over Wards 26 to 31, with a borough office named after it | The ward number and the para or lane name, as well as the house number | A short daily practice set for the days between lessons |
| Dhadka | Ward 13 in the north, with South Dhadka as its neighbour | Whether you are in Dhadka proper or South Dhadka | One online evening a week if both parents work late |
Local notes continue on the zone pages for Court More and central Asansol, Ushagram and GT Road East and Railpar, Dhadka and Kalla, while our Asansol home tuition guide moves through the whole city zone by zone.
Ask for the chapter the class is doing this week, keep the latest corrected test ready, and watch four things:
Not convinced? Another tutor from the shortlist gives a demo, and a later change is free. Our checklist for the demo class has more.
Home tuition in Asansol helps most when a wrong step needs catching the moment it is written: younger children, geometry constructions, and students writing in Bengali or Hindi whose terms need checking on paper. Lessons on a screen suit a specialist in another part of the city or state, an ISC or IB course with few local teachers, or a day when school overruns; one home visit plus one online session a week is one option. Read home tutor or online tutor and our online tutors for Asansol page.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The rate is each tutor's own decision. While comparing the shortlist, find out which classes and boards each person has been teaching this year, how often they think your child should meet them, and whether a screen session could replace a visit when exams are close. All fees are shown before the demo, and the Asansol home tuition fees guide has more to ask.
A good request covers five things: the class; the exact course with its medium (Madhyamik, Higher Secondary and its semester, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB, IGCSE); the neighbourhood and a landmark; the free days and hours around school; and a budget. Two or three maths tutors come back with their fees, and the one you choose gives a free demo. When nobody suitable can reach your lane at that time, we propose an online or mixed plan. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Our office is in Sector 66, Gurugram, and online lessons run all over India. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Asansol maths tutors set their own fees. Ask which board and class each has taught this year and how many sessions a week they advise.
Send the class, the course with its medium, your neighbourhood with a landmark, the free hours around school and a rough budget. We reply with two or three maths tutors who fit, each fee shown before you meet. The first class is a free demo, and if the fit is wrong, switching tutor later is free.
Calculus carries the largest share of the 40-mark Semester III maths paper, with 15 marks for continuity, differentiability and applications of derivatives. Matrices and determinants bring 10, probability 8, and relations, functions and inverse trigonometric functions 7. Every question is multiple choice at one mark, so timed practice without a calculator matters.
No calculator is allowed in any semester examination under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, according to the Council's own answers to common questions. That covers the objective Semesters I and III and the written Semesters II and IV, so an Asansol student should practise quick arithmetic and estimation by hand from Class 11.
A tutor should plan Madhyamik maths around the three summative evaluations the state board sets each year, usually early in April, August and December. Finish each set of chapters a little ahead, use the last fortnight for mixed practice, then turn every mark lost on the marked script into short exercises for the next few weeks.
Choose Standard if your child might take maths in Class 11, because Basic leans far more on recall. About three-quarters of Basic marks test remembering and understanding, against just over half in Standard. Both cover the same chapters for 80 board marks, so the choice is about depth, and a tutor should judge it from recent tests.
A home tutor adds most by working on what a coaching class has no time for. That means re-solving skipped or copied sheet problems slowly, keeping written board answers complete, and sorting every lost test mark into a concept gap, a slip or a misread question. The next week's plan then comes from that list, not from repeating the lecture.
For the 2027 and 2028 ISC exams, CISCE sets one 80-mark maths paper and removes the old Section B or C choice. Vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability are therefore compulsory for every student. Calculus is worth 35 of the 80 marks, and project work adds 20, so families in Asansol should plan for both.
Give the detail locals use, because the area name alone is rarely enough. At Court More, name your road and the nearest corner. In Railpar, which spans several wards, add the ward number and para name. In Dhadka, say whether you are in Dhadka proper or South Dhadka, then give the lane and house number.
Lessons at home suit children who need each wrong step caught as it is written, such as younger pupils, geometry work and students writing in Bengali or Hindi. Online suits a specialist living elsewhere, an ISC or IB course with few local teachers, or a late school day. Many families combine one home visit with one online session weekly.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
