Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

CBSE schools in Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar sit alongside State Board and ICSE schools, and some households have children on two different boards. That shapes what a CBSE tutor needs to know. Below you will find the CBSE route from the middle-school years to the Class 12 board, the ways a CBSE paper differs from the SSC and HSC papers that neighbours' children write, where a home tutor makes a real difference, and how to arrange lessons in six localities across the middle and north of the city.
Children across Vasai-Virar study under the Maharashtra State Board, CBSE and ICSE, in Marathi or English medium. We do not publish shares for each board because we have no reliable figures, but the practical point is simple: a tutor who visits your street may spend most of the week teaching SSC students. That is not a problem, provided the tutor knows how a CBSE paper is built.
| Point | CBSE | Maharashtra State Board |
|---|---|---|
| Textbooks | NCERT | The state's own books |
| Class 10 core subjects | Maths, science and social science as single subjects, each 80 + 20 | Mathematics (71), Science and Technology (72) and Social Sciences (73) on the SSC list |
| Languages | As the school offers them under CBSE's scheme | First, second and third languages on the SSC list, with composite pairs such as Marathi with Hindi |
| Practice material | CBSE's yearly sample question papers with their marking schemes (cbseacademic.nic.in) | The board's evaluation schemes and sample papers on mahahsscboard.in |
If your household has a CBSE child and a State Board child, say so in one request. Some tutors teach both well; ask each one how they keep the two plans apart. The Maharashtra Board tutors in Vasai-Virar page covers the SSC and HSC side.
| Class | Paper set by | Where students slip | What a tutor does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | The school | Fractions, ratio, reading a science passage closely | Fixes the basics and insists on written working |
| 9 | The school | Algebra and physics-style science arrive together | Chapter tests; advice on the optional Advanced paper |
| 10 | CBSE | Case-based items and answers that skip steps | Practice papers checked line by line against CBSE's marking scheme |
| 11 | The school | The jump in physics, chemistry and maths | Steady foundations before the board year |
| 12 | CBSE | Revising everything while entrance work runs | A single plan for board and entrance |
Class 10 needs 33% in each subject to pass. A Class 9 maths problem that looks sudden usually has roots in Class 6 or 7, so lessons for younger children should repair gaps first and race ahead later. For maths at this stage, our CBSE Class 10 maths preparation post and Class 10 science notes are good companions.
The 2026–27 secondary curriculum gives every Class 9 student one common paper in maths and one in science. Beside these sits an optional Advanced paper, carrying 25 marks, which a student may take in maths, in science, in both subjects or not at all. It is made entirely of higher-order questions on additional content. Its marks are kept out of the total, but the marksheet mentions a result of half marks or better. Meanwhile the old Basic versus Standard choice in maths is ending: Class 10 students of 2026–27 are the final batch to have it. Our advice is simple. Advanced suits a child who is already comfortable and curious in that subject; it is not a repair tool.
Class 10 itself now carries two board sittings. The first is compulsory. After passing it, a student may use the second sitting to improve up to three subjects from among science, maths, social science and languages. Prepare as though the first sitting is the only one; the second is insurance, not a plan.
| Subject (code) | Theory | Other marks |
|---|---|---|
| The sciences (physics 042, chemistry 043, biology 044) | 70 | 30 from practical work |
| Maths: either 041 or Applied Mathematics 241, never both | 80 | 20 assessed internally |
| Commerce (accountancy 055, business studies 054) and economics 030 | 80 | 20 internal or project |
A science student in Vasai-Virar aiming at JEE or NEET also has entrance work in the evenings, and practical files and board writing are the first things to slip. A tutor can keep both moving. See the JEE and NEET home tutor pages for Vasai-Virar, and for the senior sciences, our post on Class 12 physics.
About half of a CBSE secondary paper is built around competency questions: a short passage, a table or a real situation, and then questions that check whether the student can use the idea there. Children who know the formula perfectly still lose marks because they answer before reading the situation properly. A tutor can train a simple habit: underline what is given, circle what is asked, then write. It sounds small and it changes results across maths, science and social science.
This matters more for a child who reads English as a second or third language at home, which is common in a city where Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati are all spoken. Reading the question slowly, in English, is a skill worth practising on its own.
Homework from the tutor should be small and specific: five sums of one type, one diagram to redraw, one paragraph to rewrite in full sentences. A long list that never gets finished teaches a child that tuition work is optional. Once a month, ask the tutor for a one-page note of what is secure, what is shaky and what comes next, so the school's unit tests hold no surprises.
Families in Vasai-Virar do change boards, most often after Class 10, when a CBSE student joins a State Board junior college for Classes 11 and 12, or the other way round. The science and maths ideas carry over; what changes is the paper. The HSC science papers, according to the board's evaluation pattern, are written in four sections with a choice of questions in most of them, log tables are allowed and calculators are not. A CBSE student moving across should practise a few full HSC papers early and get used to the state textbook's wording.
A State Board student moving to CBSE meets NCERT books and competency questions, and usually needs a few weeks of close reading practice. In both directions, ask the junior college or school which steps the new board needs for admission, and ask the tutor to map the old syllabus against the new one in the first lesson, so gaps show up in June rather than at the first unit test.
| Locality | Practical note |
|---|---|
| Achole | Give Achole with Nalasopara East, the building and the wing; a map pin helps on the first visit |
| Samel Pada | Tutors living on the west side of Nalla Sopara station can often reach you; say whether school runs mornings or afternoons |
| Agashi | A tutor with a vehicle helps; mix home visits with online lessons for senior classes |
| Arnala | Coastal and spread out, so agree fixed days in advance and keep an online option |
| Phoolpada | Near Virar station on the east side; give both spellings, Phoolpada and Phulpada |
| Manvelpada | Name the lake or garden as a landmark, with the building and wing |
The zone pages for Nalasopara, Virar West and Virar East go further, and every locality is listed on our Vasai-Virar home tutors page.
Up to Class 10, most children do well with someone sitting beside them: they settle sooner, and the tutor sees every line of working as it is written. In Classes 11 and 12, online lessons widen the choice to subject specialists, which helps most where few CBSE tutors live nearby. A mix is common: maths at home, chemistry or a test review online. For the practical side of video lessons, read online tuition in Vasai-Virar.
If the match is wrong, we arrange another demo, and you can switch tutor later at no cost. See the demo class checklist for more.

Often yes, as long as the tutor knows how a CBSE paper is built and marked. The chapters overlap, but CBSE uses NCERT books and builds about half of each secondary paper around competency questions. In the demo, ask the tutor to mark one answer from a CBSE sample paper against the official scheme.
Take it only if your child already enjoys the subject and copes easily with the common paper. Under the 2026–27 curriculum the Advanced paper carries 25 marks of higher-order questions, sits outside the aggregate, and a score of 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. It is not a way to fix weak basics.
Every student sits the first Class 10 board examination, which is compulsory. A student who passes may take the second to improve marks in up to three of science, mathematics, social science and the languages. Plan for the first as the real exam and treat the second as a cushion.
Treat practical marks as real marks, because under the 2026–27 senior curriculum physics, chemistry and biology carry 70 theory and 30 practical. Mathematics 041 or Applied Mathematics 241, only one of the two, carries 80 theory and 20 internal marks. A tutor should keep practical files and written board answers moving alongside any entrance work.
The habit that helps is reading the whole situation before writing anything, because rushing is where marks go. These questions give a passage, a table or a real setting and ask the student to apply an idea there. A tutor can train a simple habit: underline what is given, circle what is asked, then write.
Plan a few full HSC practice papers in the first months, because the paper style changes more than the ideas. The board's HSC science papers have four sections with internal choice, and allow log tables but not calculators. Ask the tutor to map the CBSE syllabus against the state textbook in the first lesson.
For younger children, home visits usually work better, so look for a tutor with a vehicle and agree fixed days. For Classes 11 and 12, online lessons widen the choice to subject specialists. Many families mix the two, with maths at home and a test review online.
Look for small, steady signs rather than one big jump in marks. Homework from the tutor should be short and finished, written answers should show full steps, and school unit tests should bring fewer surprises. Ask the tutor for a one-page monthly note of what is secure and what still needs work.
