Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Walk down any lane in Vasai, Nalasopara or Virar and you will hear Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati, often in the same building. Many children here speak one language with their grandparents, study in another at school and meet English as the language of exams. Some are in Marathi-medium schools, others in English medium, and some are moving from one to the other. The English paper, on any board, wants the same things: clear sentences, correct grammar, the right format for a letter or report, and answers on literature that say something. Tell NXTutors your child's board, the part of English that worries you and the languages spoken at home. A shortlist of two or three English tutors follows, each fee listed, and the opening lesson is a free demo.
Most requests we see fit one of three patterns, and each points to a different sort of teacher. Name the pattern in your message and the shortlist will reflect it.
| The need | What parents notice | The tutor to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Board marks | Lessons are understood in class, yet written answers, grammar items and literature questions keep losing marks | Someone who has taught that board's paper recently and corrects written work in detail |
| New to English medium | Textbooks in English after years of Marathi-medium schooling, and homework that takes twice as long | A patient teacher who can switch into Marathi, Hindi or Gujarati whenever an English explanation is not getting through |
| Confidence in speaking | Writing is fine, but the student goes quiet in an interview, a presentation or a class discussion | A tutor who keeps the student talking for most of the hour |
English is examined in both State Board certificates. At HSC level the board's subject list shows English, code 01, among the languages, and a separate optional subject, English Literature, code 22, for students who choose it; check which one your child is taking before a tutor plans anything. Vasai-Virar falls under the board's Mumbai division, and the board recognises schools in both Marathi and English medium, so a Standard IX student in one school may hear English all day while a classmate across the road hears it in a single period.
The board's English marks are not reproduced here; read the evaluation scheme in force, and the sample papers, on mahahsscboard.in. Across both mediums, three routines pay. Comprehension: underline the sentence in the passage that proves each answer. Writing tasks: learn each format once, then write a new piece in it every week. Poems and prose: list three points in the margin, then turn them into the answer. Other subjects are on the Maharashtra Board tutors in Vasai-Virar page.
Two NCERT readers are set for Class 10: First Flight and Footprints Without Feet. In 2026-27 the written paper carries 80 marks; the remaining 20 are internal, and listening and speaking account for 5 of those.
| Block | Marks | Contents | Routine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Literature | 40 | Both readers | Plan in the margin, write within the word count, rewrite after correction |
| Reading | 20 | One discursive passage; one case-based factual passage that includes a chart or data | A timed passage, with the proving sentence underlined for every answer |
| Writing | 10 | Formal letter, 5; analytical paragraph from a chart, graph or map, 5 | Alternate weeks for the letter and the paragraph |
| Grammar | 10 | Syllabus items | A list of the student's own repeated errors, revisited each week |
Because literature is half of the written paper, a regular corrected literature answer tends to move the total more than another grammar worksheet.
A new medium makes two things strange at once, the language and the subject. The first weeks feel slow, and that is normal. A sensible tutor plans the shift in stages:
Tell the tutor which language your child is most comfortable in; it helps them spot home-language sentence patterns creeping into written English.
At this age the aims are confidence and enjoyment as much as accuracy. A child who reads a word by guessing from its first letter, skips whole lines or hides from books needs gentle, regular practice rather than long lessons. Good primary sessions mix letter sounds and blends, a picture book read together, and a chance for the child to retell the story. A short spell of reading with a parent on the days between lessons makes a large difference. Ask the tutor to show you a sample of written work every couple of weeks so handwriting progress is visible.
CBSE English Core in Class 11 splits its marks into reading 26, grammar with creative writing 23 and literature 31, using Hornbill and Snapshots; Flamingo and Vistas follow in Class 12. ISC English requires a 400 to 450 word composition on one of six topics, plus directed writing and a proposal, while literature is a separate examination. For IGCSE, confirm with the school whether the entry is a first-language or second-language syllabus. IB Language A is built around unseen analysis, a comparative essay and an individual oral. HSC students follow the board's own scheme. Specialists for ISC, IGCSE and IB English are thin on the ground locally, so online lessons are common; each course is covered on the national English home tutor page.
Regular weekly slots are easiest to hold with a tutor who lives on your side of the railway line. These six neighbourhoods come from Vasai and Naigaon; Nalasopara, Virar and every other locality have tutors listed on our Vasai-Virar page.
Primary children in Papdy most often need reading, handwriting and vocabulary; if your child is moving from a Marathi-medium school, say so, and ask the tutor in the demo to listen to a short read-aloud first. In Manickpur, siblings are often on different boards, so name each child's board in the same request.
In Waliv, a child may speak Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati at home and study in English; a tutor who explains in the home language first and then shows the written English often helps a child speak up sooner. In Vasant Nagari, where both parents may return late, one English lesson online and another subject at home can save the family an evening.
For a Class 10 student in Naigaon East, ask how often the tutor will set a timed paper and keep a record of marks. Chulne has fewer tutors living close by, so a weekend morning or an online session for English, with the notebook within camera view, keeps lessons regular.
The Vasai West and Vasai East zone pages, and the Vasai-Virar home tuition guide, add local detail.
English moves to a screen more easily than most subjects, roughly from Class 3 upwards, as long as the tutor gets photos of the child's written work ahead of each lesson. A screen is also the simplest way to reach an ISC, IGCSE or IB specialist. In-person lessons remain the better choice for beginning readers, for a child in the first term after a change of medium, and for conversation practice. See online tutors for Vasai-Virar for how online lessons work. During the free demo, look for a tutor who:
Unsure after the demo? Ask us, and the next tutor on your shortlist gives one; a later change of tutor is also free.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor decides their own fee. Before choosing, find out which board the tutor has prepared students for lately, whether they will mark a piece of writing sent midweek, and how often they would want to see your child. Fees appear on the shortlist ahead of any demo; the Vasai-Virar home tuition fees guide offers further questions.
Your message should say the class and board, what you most want to improve, which languages are used at home and at school, your neighbourhood with East or West and a landmark, and the days that suit. We send two or three English tutors and their fees, and you choose one for a free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Other Vasai-Virar subjects include maths and science; nearby, see English tutors in Mumbai and the Mumbai page. English teachers living in Vasai-Virar will find families looking for tutors on Vasai-Virar tuition jobs.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. English tutors in Vasai-Virar set their own fees, which appear on the shortlist before any demo. Ask which board the tutor taught recently and whether they will mark writing sent between lessons.
Send NXTutors the class, board, the part of English to fix, the languages used at home and school, your neighbourhood and free days. We send two or three matched English tutors with fees, and you choose one for a free demo. Changing tutor later is free.
Most HSC students take English, which the State Board lists as code 01 among the languages. English Literature is a separate optional subject, code 22, for students who choose it. Check which one your child has before a tutor plans, and read the current scheme on mahahsscboard.in.
Literature carries 40 of the 80 written marks in 2026-27, reading 20, writing 10 and grammar 10. Writing means a formal letter and an analytical paragraph, 5 marks each. The school adds 20 internal marks, including 5 for listening and speaking, and the readers are First Flight and Footprints Without Feet.
A tutor eases the move by starting in two languages and ending in one. New words go into a notebook with meanings in Marathi, Hindi or Gujarati, the child reads a short passage aloud each lesson, and sentence openings are practised until automatic. More of each lesson then stays in English.
English tuition for a Class 2 child should be short, regular and enjoyable. Letter sounds and blends, a picture book read together and the story retold in the child's own words work well. A little reading with a parent between lessons helps, and the tutor should show written work every couple of weeks.
ISC English asks for a composition of 400 to 450 words from six topics, directed writing and a proposal, with literature examined separately. CBSE English Core in Class 11 gives reading 26, grammar and creative writing 23 and literature 31, using Hornbill and Snapshots, then Flamingo and Vistas in Class 12.
Parents should tell the tutor the child's stage, home language and main goal. In Papdy, mention a move from Marathi medium and ask for a short read-aloud in the demo. In Waliv, say which home language your child uses. In Naigaon East, ask how often timed papers will be set.
Online English tuition suits most children from about Class 3, as long as the tutor sees photos of written work before each lesson. It also reaches ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists who are few locally. Beginning readers, children new to English medium and speaking practice still gain more at home.
In a free English demo, watch whether the tutor asks for a marked school answer first and lets your child do most of the talking and writing. More English should enter the lesson as it goes on, and homework should come with a clear promise that it will be checked.
