Science home tutor in Vasai-Virar, Classes 6 to 10: understanding first, then answers written the way the examiner marks them

In Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar alike, school science changes character somewhere around Class 8. The friendly chapters about plants and magnets give way to equations, circuit symbols and long biological terms, and a child who coped easily can suddenly feel lost. What decides the next two years is less the syllabus than the habits: reading a question properly, drawing neatly, and using the textbook's words. A home tutor builds those habits one evening at a time. Give NXTutors your child's class, board, school medium and neighbourhood, and we put two or three science tutors in front of you with their fees listed; the first class with your choice is a free demo.

How is Class 10 science examined on the boards found in Vasai-Virar?

Aaditya Kashyap is the author of the CBSE and ICSE parts of this page; the State Board details come from the board's own scheme. Vasai-Virar is in Palghar district, which the board counts in its Mumbai division. Each board rewards a slightly different skill, so the tutor should know from the first lesson which one your child faces.

Class 10 science on the State Board, CBSE and ICSE, and the skill each paper rewards most
BoardPaperSkill it rewards
Maharashtra State Board (SSC)Science and Technology, code 72: two activity-sheet papers of 40 each, with 20 internal marksWorking out what a figure, table or short situation is showing
CBSEA single 80-mark board paper; 20 assessed by the schoolNCERT-accurate answers whose length matches the marks
ICSE (CISCE)Separate papers in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each with internal workExact definitions and numericals laid out step by step

Below Class 11, one tutor for all three sciences usually serves a child better than three specialists, because a single person notices when a "physics problem" is really an arithmetic problem. Our national science home tutor page explains how matching works.

What is an SSC activity sheet, and how do you practise for one?

Under the Maharashtra State Board, Science and Technology for Standards IX and X is examined in two papers of 40 marks, both answered as activity sheets. Instead of asking a child to reproduce a paragraph, an activity usually sets up a small situation, a picture or an observation and asks what follows from it. Children who have only memorised answers find this hard; children who have been asked "what does this show?" every week find it natural. A tutor can build that in four ways:

  • Mark the question before answering it. The child underlines what the activity gives and circles what it asks, every single time.
  • Use the book's words on paper. Explanations can happen in any language, but the written answer uses the board textbook's terms.
  • Give both papers equal weeks. Each 40 is separate, so neither half of the syllabus can wait for revision season.
  • Read the journal, never write it. The 20 internal marks come from experiments, the journal and projects done at school; a tutor can ask why each experiment works while the work stays the child's.

Practice should come from the board's textbooks and the sample question papers available after a student logs in on mahahsscboard.in; check the current scheme there before you plan. Other subjects are covered on the Maharashtra Board tutors in Vasai-Virar page.

Where are the marks in CBSE Class 10 science?

CBSE sets 80 marks on the board paper, and the school awards 20 more in four parts of 5. For 2026-27 the unit weights are uneven: Chemical Substances, Nature and Behaviour carries 25, World of Living also 25, Effects of Current 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5. Chemistry and biology therefore hold half the paper between them, and balanced equations and labelled diagrams deserve a slot every week. CBSE also describes the paper by skill, with 50% for remembering and understanding, 30% for applying, and 20% for analysing and evaluating. That final fifth is where pure memorisers fall behind. The CBSE Class 10 science notes work through each chapter, and the Class 10 science tutor page plans the board year.

How should each type of CBSE science question be practised?

The 2026-27 CBSE Class 10 science sample paper: 39 questions by mark value, with a way to practise each
QuestionsMarks eachHow to practise
20, multiple-choice and assertion–reason1Ten a day from the NCERT chapter, with the reason for each choice spoken aloud
62Exactly two points, and then stop
73Three distinct points, or a labelled sketch plus two
3, case- or source-based4The passage or data read twice before any part is answered
35Diagram or equation first, numbered points after

Three topics stay out of the 2026-27 board paper and are left to the school: how species evolve, how the periodic table came to be arranged, and electromagnetic induction with the motor and generator. They return in Class 11, so they still need teaching, only not board revision time. The curriculum also lists 14 experiments that feed board questions, which makes a well-kept practical file a revision tool. An optional second sitting lets a student try to improve up to three subjects; its dates come from cbse.gov.in, and our board-year planner maps the months.

Why shouldn't a CBSE Class 9 child study from an older sibling's notes?

For 2026-27, CBSE Class 9 science follows Exploration, the newer NCERT book. Exam marks stay at 80 with 20 internal, but the units have moved: matter now carries 27, the living world 25, motion, force, work and sound 23, and Earth as a system 5. Notes from the earlier book follow a different order, so the tutor should teach from the current text. The Class 9 science tutor page covers this year in more depth.

What should an ICSE science family ask for?

ICSE students write physics, chemistry and biology as three separate CISCE papers, with internal marks attached to each. The council sets the syllabus while each school chooses its books, so tuition should follow the school's textbooks and the specimen papers on cisce.org. Examiners look for definitions word for word and numericals worked in full with units. Tutors with recent ICSE experience are fewer in Vasai-Virar than State Board tutors, so write ICSE in your first message and stay open to one online lesson a week.

What should science tuition do in Classes 6, 7 and 8?

These are the cheap years for good habits, and the expensive years to skip them. Classes 6 to 8 are also when maths turns to algebra and science splits into separate topics, so weak arithmetic quietly becomes weak science. Ask the tutor to concentrate on four things:

  1. A one-line summary after each activity. What happened, and why, in a sentence the child says aloud.
  2. Units on every numerical answer. From the very first sum in Class 6.
  3. Small pencil diagrams. Straight label lines and correct spellings, not large decorated drawings.
  4. One "why" question a week. About something the child noticed at home, on the road or in the kitchen.

Science tutors for families in Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar: what should you settle first?

Science lessons for younger children usually fall in the early evening, after school and a meal, so a fixed weekly time and directions a stranger can follow make all the difference. Six neighbourhoods from Vasai and Naigaon are below; Nalasopara and both sides of Virar are covered on our Vasai-Virar page, which lists every locality.

How should a tutor handle science terms and diagrams when home and school languages differ?

Across Vasai-Virar, Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati are all spoken at home, while schools teach in Marathi or English medium. A child can grasp an idea perfectly in one language and still stumble over the term the paper expects in another. Let the tutor explain in whatever language works, then require the textbook's term in writing. By Class 10, these skills should be automatic:

  • Light rays drawn with arrowheads, and virtual rays dotted.
  • Circuits drawn with standard symbols, the ammeter in series and the voltmeter across the part it measures.
  • Body systems such as the heart or the digestive tract drawn simply, every label spelt right.
  • Chemical equations balanced each time, with state symbols where the question asks for them.
  • Genetics problems set out as parents, gametes and offspring, with the ratio last.

The free demo is a good test of this. Ask for a lesson on the current school chapter and see whether the tutor fixes a missing arrow or label without being prompted. Our demo class checklist suggests more signs. If it is not the right fit, the next tutor on the shortlist gives a demo, and changing later is free.

How much does a science home tutor in Vasai-Virar cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fees. For a younger child, ask how many weeks before school exams the tutor keeps for revision, and whether an online lesson could replace a visit in a busy week. Each fee is shown on the shortlist before the demo, and the Vasai-Virar home tuition fees guide has further questions.

How do you start with a science tutor through NXTutors?

Send us the class and board, the branch of science that worries your child, the languages of home and school, your neighbourhood with East or West and a landmark, and the times your child is free. We suggest two or three science tutors with their fees, and the one you pick gives a free demo. If no suitable tutor can reach you at that time, a fully or partly online plan is the alternative; see online tutors for Vasai-Virar. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). Students moving into Class 11 can use the Vasai-Virar pages for physics, chemistry and biology. Nearby, see science tutors in Mumbai and the Mumbai page.

Science Home Tutor in Vasai-Virar: common questions

What does a science home tutor for Classes 6 to 10 cost in Vasai-Virar?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Science tutors in Vasai-Virar set their own fees, shown on the shortlist before the demo. For a younger child, ask how many weeks the tutor keeps for revision before school exams and whether one lesson could be online in a busy week.

How does NXTutors match a science tutor for a child in Vasai, Nalasopara or Virar?

Tell NXTutors the class, board, school medium, the branch of science that worries your child, your neighbourhood and free times. We send two or three matched science tutors with their fees. The first class with your choice is a free demo, and changing tutor later costs nothing.

What is an SSC science activity sheet, and how should a Vasai-Virar child practise for it?

An SSC activity sheet gives a situation, figure or observation and asks what it shows, rather than asking for a memorised paragraph. Science and Technology has two such papers of 40 marks. A child should underline what the activity gives, circle what it asks, and answer in the textbook terms.

Where do the 20 internal SSC science marks come from for a Vasai-Virar student?

The 20 internal SSC science marks come from experiments, the journal and projects done at school. A home tutor in Vasai-Virar can read each journal entry and ask why an experiment works, but the journal and the project must stay the child's own work from start to finish.

Which CBSE Class 10 science units should a Vasai-Virar student revise most?

Chemical Substances and World of Living deserve the most revision, at 25 marks each of the 80. Effects of Current carries 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5. So balanced equations and labelled diagrams need attention every week, and the 20% analysis share rewards understanding over rote answers.

Which CBSE Class 10 science topics are left to school assessment in 2026-27?

Three topics are kept off the 2026-27 board paper and left to school assessment. They are how species evolve, how the periodic table came to be arranged, and electromagnetic induction with the motor and generator. They return in Class 11, so a tutor should still teach them, only without board revision time.

Can a CBSE Class 9 student in Vasai-Virar use an older sibling's science notes?

An older sibling's notes are a poor guide, because CBSE Class 9 now follows the newer NCERT book, Exploration. The 80 plus 20 split stays, but units moved: matter 27, the living world 25, motion, force, work and sound 23, and Earth as a system 5. Teach from the current text.

How is ICSE science examined for a child in Vasai-Virar?

ICSE science is examined as three separate CISCE papers, physics, chemistry and biology, each with internal marks. Schools choose their own books, so tuition should follow those textbooks and the specimen papers on cisce.org. ICSE tutors are fewer in Vasai-Virar than State Board tutors, so mention ICSE early.

What should Papdy, Gokhivare or Juchandra parents arrange before science lessons begin?

Parents should share both spellings and a landmark, then fix a regular slot. In Papdy, add Papdi and Papdy Road. In Gokhivare, add Gokhiware and the lake, and ask for a short written check of earlier topics. In Juchandra, agree two set weekdays, with a weekend class for a missed one.

How should a science tutor handle a Vasai-Virar child who speaks Hindi or Gujarati at home?

A good science tutor explains in whichever language your child understands, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati or English, and then insists on the textbook term in writing. Ray arrows, circuit symbols, labelled body systems and balanced equations should all be drilled until they are automatic by Class 10.
