Where AI stops and people start
T Nagar's bazaar streets have crowded out many houses, but its residential pockets still hold older family houses alongside newer blocks of flats. Nungambakkam has apartments, builder-floor buildings and some independent houses on the streets behind its High Road offices and restaurants. In Kodambakkam, flats are steadily replacing older bungalows next to the film studios. West Mambalam packs independent houses, small apartment buildings and old temples into narrow streets, and Saidapet, on the Adyar River, ranges from older working-class streets to houses, flats and a few gated complexes.
This is suburban-train territory. The South Line stops at Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Mambalam and Saidapet, so a tutor from as far down the line as Tambaram can ride in, and West Mambalam connects to T Nagar through a subway beneath the railway. The Metro Blue Line adds Saidapet and Little Mount on the southern side, and Ashok Nagar and Vadapalani on the Green Line lie just west. Car parking is hard on the narrow streets, so tutors on two-wheelers, on foot from the station or by auto do better. Shopping weekends, festival seasons and the evening rush on the High Road slow every route, so mid-afternoon or late-evening lessons tend to hold.
For T Nagar, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, West Mambalam and Saidapet, NXTutors first looks for tutors who live in these streets, then tutors who already travel here, then others in Chennai, and online tutors at the end. Two or three reach you, matched to your child's class, board and subject, and every profile lists the tutor's own fee before you commit. The first lesson is a free demo, which is also a good time to agree how the tutor will come and where to park. If the tutor stops suiting your child later in the year, switching to another is free.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Mambalam and Saidapet, all on the South Line that opened in 1931. Mambalam is one of the city's busiest suburban stations and sits on T Nagar's western edge. Tutors coming by train usually finish with a short walk or auto, which avoids parking on the crowded bazaar streets.
Yes. Two Blue Line stops, Saidapet and Little Mount, cover its western and southern sides, and the suburban railway has a Saidapet station too. Tutors living near either line can arrive by train and take a brief auto ride, though Saidapet's few newer gated complexes will want the visitor registered.
Two or three. They are chosen for your child's class, board and subject and ordered by distance, starting with tutors who live nearby. Each profile shows the fee the tutor charges before you book, the first lesson is a free demo, and if you later want someone else, the change is free.
Yes. Studios and businesses share it with residential streets, and flats keep rising where bungalows once stood. It also had one of the city's earliest flyovers, built in 1967. At a house the tutor goes straight to the door; a block of flats will usually want the name given at the entrance first.
