Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A Chennai student aiming at medicine usually knows the school biology book well. The surprise comes in the first serious mock, when questions lift a single line, a table footnote or a figure label from the NCERT text, and the student's own book phrased it differently or left it out. Physics brings the opposite surprise: the concepts are familiar but the clock runs out. A home tutor earns their fee by fixing whichever of these is costing the most marks, and in Chennai, by being someone who can get to your door on the suburban train, the MRTS or the metro. For the exam itself and the NCERT-first method, read our national NEET home tutor guide; this page is about doing it in Chennai.
NEET (UG) 2026, as the NTA's bulletin described it, was a three-hour pen-and-paper exam in a single afternoon shift with 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions: 45 in physics, 45 in chemistry and 90 in biology. The total was 720; a right answer added four, a wrong one subtracted one and a blank scored nothing. Booklets were offered in English, in Hindi as a bilingual version, or in English with one of several regional languages; check the current list. The National Medical Commission sets the syllabus. Always confirm the year's details on neet.nta.nic.in.
Chennai students reach NEET from the Tamil Nadu State Board's higher secondary course, from CBSE or from ISC. The NMC syllabus is organised in ten biology units, five drawn from the Class 11 NCERT book and five from Class 12, and the questions follow NCERT's wording closely.
Every system has to include Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English in the qualifying exam, as the 2026 bulletin set out. For school-side help, our Chennai biology, physics and chemistry home tutor pages cover the board years.
| Subject | Session type | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Biology | Online, 30 to 45 minutes, two or three times a week | Recall checks are short and frequent; travel would cost more time than the session |
| Physics | Home, 75 to 90 minutes, once or twice a week | The tutor needs to watch how a numerical is started and where it goes wrong |
| Chemistry | Mixed | Physical numericals at home; inorganic and organic recall online |
| Mock analysis | Weekend, either | Needs time, not travel |
The guides to NCERT-first NEET biology and high-yield NEET physics explain what each kind of session should cover; the NEET physics tutor page goes further on physics.
Since the physics tutor is the one who travels, the useful question is which line brings them to you. Chennai's suburban trains, the MRTS and the Blue and Green metro lines between them reach most of the city; the OMR, Porur and Medavakkam wait for lines still being built.
| Zone | Route | Note for families |
|---|---|---|
| Velachery, Guindy and Tambaram (e.g. Tambaram) | GST Road suburban trains, the MRTS and the Blue Line | Kathipara and GST Road are the slow points; pick a slot either side of the peak |
| T Nagar, Nungambakkam and Kodambakkam (e.g. West Mambalam) | South Line stations; Blue Line on the southern side | Parking is hard; a tutor walking from Mambalam station keeps time |
| Mogappair, Ambattur and Avadi (e.g. Ambattur) | Arakkonam-line trains to Ambattur and Avadi | Mogappair is off the railway; ask how the tutor will come |
| Anna Nagar, Kilpauk and Aminjikarai (e.g. Purasawalkam) | Green Line, or Chennai Central for suburban riders | Market streets are tight; book before the early-evening rush |
| Vadapalani, KK Nagar and Porur (e.g. Valasaravakkam) | Green Line to Vadapalani, then bus or auto up Arcot Road | Beyond Vadapalani, a tutor living along Arcot Road is steadier |
| Perambur, Kolathur and North Chennai (e.g. Tondiarpet) | Suburban trains and the Blue Line's northern stops | Arrive ahead of the market-road crowd |
| Adyar, Besant Nagar and Mylapore | MRTS down the east side | On temple festival days, move that session online |
| OMR and ECR | By road, apart from Perungudi's MRTS stop | Weekend home physics plus online biology suits most families |
The Chennai home tuition page lists every area in each zone.
Take an illustrative Class 12 State Board student in Tambaram with coaching on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, sound in biology from the school book but dropping marks on NCERT-specific lines, and slow in physics.
The physics tutor travels once, at an hour when trains are easy; everything frequent is online. A student in Anna Nagar on the Green Line might take two shorter home sessions instead, since more tutors can reach the avenue grid quickly.
| Year | What the tutor protects | Sessions a week (typical) |
|---|---|---|
| Class 11 | The five Class 11 biology units, read in NCERT from the start; mechanics; mole concept | 2 to 3 |
| Class 12 | Class 11 revision on a monthly cycle; physics speed; board-style answers before the board exams | 3 to 5 |
| Repeat year | The subject that lost most marks last year, diagnosed from the mocks; daytime home sessions | 3 to 6 |
For a repeat year, the 2026 bulletin set a minimum age of 17 and no upper limit; check the current eligibility section before deciding. The NEET chemistry tutor page and our list of important NEET chemistry chapters help when chemistry is the gap.
The 2026 paper was sat on paper in the afternoon, so home mocks should be too: two to five o'clock, printed paper, separate answer sheet, no breaks. Score plus four and minus one, and track wrong answers, blanks and minutes per subject. When the same subject keeps leaking marks through wrong answers, the tutor sets a firm rule for when to leave a question; when blanks pile up, it is content or speed. The numbers decide what next month's sessions are for.
Most Chennai NEET students attend coaching, and for good reason: it supplies a chapter calendar, a test series and a sense of where a student stands against others. A tutor alongside coaching should not repeat the lecture. The hours belong to three things coaching cannot do one-to-one: checking NCERT recall line by line, clearing the physics questions the student could not finish, and going through each mock answer by answer.
Preparing without coaching is possible, but the family then has to supply what coaching would: a written chapter plan from the NMC syllabus, agreed with the tutors at the start; a separate series of full paper mocks; and a fixed weekly routine that does not bend around school events. It suits students who are strongly self-driven or whose school timetable clashes with batch hours. Our comparison of NEET coaching and a home tutor sets out both routes; it was written for Gurugram, but the reasoning holds here, including the point that travel time is a real cost in a city of long commutes.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which is shown before the demo. Because biology checks run well online, a mixed plan tends to cost less in a month than all-home visits. See home tuition fees in Chennai and the pricing guide.

Usually not on its own. NEET questions follow the NCERT text closely, including single lines, table notes and figure labels. A State Board student should read each NCERT chapter beside the school chapter, with a tutor listing what differs and testing recall from that list each week. Board details come from official notices.
Yes, usually by suburban train. Tambaram sits at the end of the GST Road line and Ambattur on the line towards Avadi and Arakkonam, so a tutor living along either line can come by train and walk or take an auto. Choose a slot either side of the evening peak.
Physics, in most cases, because the tutor needs to watch how the student starts a numerical. Biology recall checks are short and frequent, so they work well online. Chemistry splits: physical chemistry numericals at the table, inorganic and organic recall online. Mock reviews can go either way at the weekend.
The corridor still relies on roads, apart from Perungudi's MRTS stop, and office traffic peaks when offices open and close. Most families there take one home physics session at the weekend and keep biology checks and doubt sessions online. Add the tutor as a regular guest in the society app first.
Yes, if the family supplies what coaching would: a written chapter plan from the NMC syllabus, a series of full paper mocks and a fixed weekly routine. Subject tutors handle teaching, NCERT recall checks and mock review. It suits self-driven students; without the routine, preparation tends to slip behind the calendar.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with NEET toward the upper end. Every tutor sets their own fee, shown before the demo. Because biology checks run well online, a mixed home and online plan usually costs less in a month than all-home visits.
