JEE and NEET tutor jobs in Chennai

For a Chennai student, the distance to JEE or NEET depends on the board. A CBSE student already learns from NCERT; an ISC student has wide overlap but different sequencing; a State Board student has different textbooks, a chapter order that differs from the NTA list and school questions that reward complete written answers. Entrance tutors here are hired to close exactly that gap, one subject at a time.

Who asks for jee and neet tutors in Chennai

JEE Main Paper 1 in 2026, as NTA held it, was a three-hour computer-based test with 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical-value questions in each of maths, physics and chemistry, 100 marks per subject, four marks for a correct response and one taken away for an incorrect one. Two sessions were held, and ties were broken on maths first. JEE Advanced, the IITs' own exam for those who qualify, has two compulsory papers. NEET (UG) 2026 was a three-hour pen-and-paper exam of 180 compulsory questions, 45 physics, 45 chemistry and 90 biology, for 720 marks, with booklets offered in English, Hindi bilingual or English with one of several regional languages.

The NTA syllabus lists 14 maths units and 20 each in physics and chemistry, close to NCERT; the NMC's NEET syllabus has ten biology units drawn from the Class 11 and 12 NCERT books. For State Board students, a tutor writes a chapter map against the NTA units, adds reading where the state book is lighter and builds objective practice into every week, without letting it crowd out the board's own written pattern. For CBSE students, the work is speed and multi-concept problems layered on NCERT. For ISC students, JEE practice should be paced to the school's term.

Most families already use coaching, so requests usually name one subject and ask for doubt clearing, mock review and board protection. NEET biology is often taught as short recall sessions; physics as longer home sessions on a free afternoon.

Where in Chennai the work is

Velachery, Guindy and Tambaram has three rail systems: the Blue Line at Guindy and Alandur, the MRTS through Velachery to St Thomas Mount and suburban trains to Chromepet and Tambaram. A tutor living near any of them can reach entrance students across the south without a car, though Kathipara and GST Road are heavy at office hours. In T Nagar, Nungambakkam and Kodambakkam, a train to Mambalam or Kodambakkam is usually more punctual than driving into the market streets.

Some areas depend on the road. Medavakkam and Pallikaranai have no station, west of Vadapalani there is no working metro, and along the OMR only Perungudi has a station while the Purple Line is still being built. Students there often take doubt sessions online after coaching and a home session at the weekend. Online-only tutors elsewhere in India can also teach OMR students, so a clear online offer matters.

Fix your slot after the coaching timetable is known and keep it on a fixed weekday. For NEET biology, short online sessions two or three evenings a week avoid traffic entirely.

What families in Chennai expect

  • Name your subject and exams: JEE Main, JEE Advanced or NEET, plus the boards you know.
  • For State Board students, write a chapter map against the NTA units and fill the gaps.
  • Know the marking: four for correct, one deducted for wrong, in both JEE Main and NEET.
  • Review every mock by cause: concept, calculation, time or careless error.
  • Keep the board pattern secure; entrance practice must not replace it.
  • Fit around coaching with a fixed slot and an online fallback.
  • Read the current bulletin on the NTA sites before each year.

How to get picked

Write your profile around the board-to-entrance gap: "NEET biology for State Board students, NCERT mapping and recall" or "JEE physics, CBSE and ISC, mock review". Add your line or station and the hours you keep free after coaching. Families here notice when a tutor understands their child's starting point.

In the demo, set a short timed set, perhaps ten questions in about twelve minutes, then review the slowest answers as well as the wrong ones. For a State Board student, show one NCERT line or example missing from the state book. Leave a written month plan. Leads, credits and how you get paid are explained below.

Board calendars shape the entrance year too. On the State Board, practicals come in February and theory papers from early March into April, so a Chennai entrance tutor usually eases mock frequency in those weeks and steps it up again afterwards. CBSE schools follow their own session from April. A tutor who shows the parent a year plan built around both the board timetable and the NTA bulletin, rather than a generic schedule, is easier to choose.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

Pro, Premium and Featured are optional platform subscriptions: more visibility, AI tools and more lead credits. They are never a fee to apply for a tuition. See tutor plans.

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Opening the family's contact details uses lead credits, and the credit price is shown on the request before you open it. At most 5 tutors can open one request, and a request stays open for 7 days. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

Can State Board students in Chennai prepare for JEE?

Yes. A tutor maps state chapters against the NTA units, adds reading where the state book is lighter and builds objective practice each week, while keeping the board's written pattern secure.

What does NEET look like?

In the 2026 bulletin, a three-hour pen-and-paper exam of 180 compulsory questions, 90 of them biology, for 720 marks, with one mark deducted per wrong answer. Confirm each year on neet.nta.nic.in.

Do Chennai families hire a JEE tutor alongside coaching?

Usually yes, for one subject: doubt clearing, mock review and board protection rather than a second full course.

Which areas suit an entrance tutor without a car?

Those on suburban, MRTS or metro lines, such as Velachery, Guindy, Tambaram, T Nagar, Anna Nagar and Vadapalani. The OMR and Porur depend mostly on roads.

Can I teach NEET biology fully online?

Many families like that: short recall sessions with no travel. Some add a weekend home visit for diagrams and mock review.

Do ISC students in Chennai take JEE or NEET?

Some do. They have wide overlap with NCERT but different books and order, so fix NCERT reading slots from Class 11 and pace practice to the school's term.
