Perungudi's streets behind the office buildings hold apartments and houses for working families. Thoraipakkam, on the edge of the marsh, is mainly flats in multi-storey buildings and gated communities. Sholinganallur, annexed into the Chennai Corporation in 2011, mixes large gated communities, budget flats and a housing-board township near the IT parks. Navalur, further south, is two- and three-bedroom apartments, villa communities and plots, and Kelambakkam, still a village panchayat that the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has identified as a growth node, has plotted layouts, apartments and villas, many inside gated campuses. Neelankarai, on the ECR parallel to Thoraipakkam, is bungalows, villas, row houses and independent houses near the beach.

Apart from the MRTS stop at Perungudi, opened with the Velachery extension on 19 November 2007, the corridor relies on its roads. The Purple Line is under construction along the OMR with stations including Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur, Semmancheri, Navallur and Siruseri, and the Red Line is being built to meet it at Sholinganallur. Until they open, most tutors come by two-wheeler, bus or cab from a nearby locality.

The Pallavaram–Thoraipakkam Radial Road brings some tutors across from the GST Road side. Neelankarai is reached along the ECR from Thiruvanmiyur, Palavakkam or Injambakkam, or across from Thoraipakkam on the OMR.

The zone research singles out IB, IGCSE and advanced senior subjects as areas where online tutors are often the practical answer for families here. Chennai requests also cover the Tamil Nadu State Board's SSLC and +2, CBSE, and ICSE and ISC. Two or three are sent. Online-only tutors elsewhere in India can teach students here too, so an online offer widens your reach even if you never visit the corridor. Families can also keep one tutor at home and another online for different subjects.

Gated communities often want a resident to approve each visitor, and some ask for ID on the first visit. Being added once as a regular guest in the society app saves time at every lesson. Ask for the community name, the gate to use and the block and flat number before the demo. In Neelankarai, most homes are bungalows, villas and independent houses, so you come to the door and parking is rarely a problem.

It also helps to be specific about the distance you will travel. A tutor living in Thoraipakkam may reach Perungudi and Sholinganallur easily but find Kelambakkam a long ride at the end of a working day, while one based in Navalur may cover Kelambakkam and Sholinganallur comfortably. List only the localities you can reach on a weekday evening, and serve the rest online.

OMR traffic peaks when offices open and close, and the Sholinganallur junction is heavy at those hours. Lessons after the evening peak or at weekends are steadier. The ECR is calmer on weekdays than at weekends, when beach traffic slows it. On the busiest evenings, an online session for doubts can keep a student's week on track without a trip down the corridor.

Weekend home visits are common on this corridor for exactly that reason. A pattern some families use is a weekend session at home for new chapters and written work, with a shorter online class midweek for doubts, which spares both tutor and student the evening OMR traffic.
