Home tuition jobs in Perambur, Kolathur and North Chennai

Royapuram railway station opened in June 1856 as the first railway terminus in South India, and it still has the oldest surviving station buildings of Indian Railways. That history matters to a tutor today because north Chennai has more rail for its size than almost any other part of the city, which makes it workable without a car even though its lanes are narrow and parking is tight.

The zone is dense, old and closely tied to the railway. Perambur, where the Madras Railway set up its workshops in 1856 and whose station is the second oldest in the city, has a busy market, older independent houses and newer apartment buildings. Villivakkam is packed with houses and apartment buildings on both sides of the tracks, joined by a road subway. Kolathur, a long-established housing colony famous for its ornamental fish trade, is independent houses and low- to mid-rise flats around busy local markets. Royapuram, beside the sea and its fishing harbour, runs from old family houses in narrow lanes to newer flats, and Tondiarpet mixes trading houses and small factories with older homes and apartment buildings.

Getting to Perambur, Kolathur & North Chennai

Perambur has three suburban stations on the line towards Avadi and Arakkonam, and Villivakkam is on the same line. Royapuram still has suburban trains. Tondiarpet has both a suburban station on the Gummidipoondi line and a Blue Line metro stop, opened on 14 February 2021 with the extension from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar, which also added Sir Theagaraya College station; Washermanpet itself opened on 10 February 2019.

Kolathur relies on Villivakkam station and buses for now. Red Line stations at Kolathur Junction, Srinivasa Nagar and Villivakkam are under construction in Chennai Metro Phase II. The northern arm of the Inner Ring Road runs from Padi Junction towards Manali, meeting NH 5 at Madhavaram Junction.

What families in Perambur, Kolathur & North Chennai ask for

Chennai requests cover the Tamil Nadu State Board's SSLC and Higher Secondary (+2) examinations, CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and IB or IGCSE. The state board holds practical examinations in February, before the theory papers, and its sample question papers set out each pattern, so a tutor who knows them can show a family exactly how they prepare. The zone research does not rank boards by locality; describe your own classes and boards precisely.

Tutors for Perambur, Villivakkam, Kolathur, Royapuram and Tondiarpet are listed nearest first: those who live in north Chennai, then those who already travel here, then the rest of the city, then online tutors. Two or three reach the family. A tutor living on the Arakkonam line, the Gummidipoondi line or the Blue Line can add the localities near those stations as travel areas.

Within the zone, the three rail routes give a tutor real choice. One living near Perambur can cover Villivakkam and Kolathur with a train and an auto; one near Washermanpet can reach Tondiarpet and Royapuram on the Blue Line or the suburban trains. Matching your travel areas to the stations you actually use keeps weekday lessons reliable and shows families a realistic picture.

Society entry and visitor norms

Many streets here look alike to a newcomer, so ask for the door number with a landmark. Older family houses are doorstep visits; newer buildings take your name at the gate. Parking is tight near the markets in Perambur and Royapuram and in Kolathur's market streets, which is another reason to come by train, metro or auto and walk the last part.

Timings that work in Perambur, Kolathur & North Chennai

Market roads in Perambur and Royapuram are crowded in the evening, so a slightly earlier slot usually works. Red Hills Road is busiest at office hours, and evening lessons in Kolathur do better with a slightly later start. Tondiarpet's commercial roads are busiest during the working day, so evening or weekend lessons are usually smoother there. Arriving a little before the evening crowd helps a tutor keep time across the zone.

Joining, leads and pay

Joining is free

Applying, onboarding, building your profile, the ID check and receiving matched requests on the Free plan cost nothing. The Free plan gives you 160 lead credits every month.

Paid plans are optional

How leads and credits work

A family request that fits your subjects, classes, board, areas and hours reaches your dashboard. Credit packs are there if you need more.

How you get paid

You set your own fee. When a family pays for classes through NXTutors, you receive 50% of the fee for home tuition in the first month and the full fee after that, and 70% of the fee for online tuition every month. Payments are held for 7 days, then paid out weekly. How you get paid.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Questions from tutors

Can I teach in north Chennai without a vehicle?

Yes. Suburban trains serve Perambur, Villivakkam, Royapuram and Tondiarpet, and the Blue Line reaches Washermanpet and Tondiarpet. An auto or a short walk finishes most trips.

Is there a metro near Kolathur?

Not yet. Red Line stations at Kolathur Junction and Villivakkam are under construction. For now, come by bus or by suburban train to Villivakkam and take an auto.

What address details should I ask for?

The door number with a landmark. Many streets look alike, and newer buildings will also want your name at the gate.

Who sets the fee for lessons here?

You do. Families see it on your profile before the free demo, and joining is free. The section below explains how leads, credits and payment work.

How do I reach Tondiarpet?

By Blue Line to Tondiarpet station or by suburban train on the Gummidipoondi line. Evening or weekend lessons avoid the busiest commercial hours.

Should I offer online lessons for north Chennai families?

It widens your options. Online tutors are listed after local and travelling ones, which helps families who cannot find a nearby specialist. If you live in north Chennai, online lessons also let you keep teaching on market-crowded evenings when the trip across the lanes would be slow.
