Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Guntur the state syllabus and CBSE are the systems most families know, so a child on the CISCE route, in an ICSE school or arriving from one in another city, can find that the nearest tutors mostly teach other papers. That is not a reason to settle. ICSE and ISC ask for things the state and CBSE papers do not: three separate science papers, compulsory internal work in most subjects, literature answers that have to argue, and an elective system in Classes 11 and 12 with fixed deadlines. This page explains those rules in plain terms, compares them with the Andhra Pradesh SSC papers, sets out the decision at the end of Class 10, and lists what to ask a tutor before the first regular class.
| Group | Examples | Paper / school split |
|---|---|---|
| I: everyone takes all of it | English; one second language; History and Civics, with Geography | 80 / 20 |
| II: pick two or three | Maths and Science are the usual pair; Economics, Commercial Studies, Environmental Science and modern foreign or classical languages are among the others | 80 / 20 |
| III: pick one | An applied subject, for example Computer Applications, Art, Physical Education, Robotics and AI, or the Economic or Commercial Applications papers | 50 / 50 |
The Group III split matters more than families expect. With half the marks earned during the year, a project finished in a hurry in February costs real marks. A tutor can plan the work, set deadlines and review drafts, but the writing has to be your child's own; ask how the tutor draws that line.
Maths at ICSE is a single paper: three hours, 80 marks. Twenty more marks come from assignments, two at minimum, done during the year; the subject teacher marks each one and an external examiner marks it again. Topics run from commercial maths, including banking and shares, to statistics, trigonometry, geometry and algebra. A bare answer earns little, because examiners look for the method written out.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate papers of two hours and 80 marks each, and each adds 20 marks for practical work assessed in school. Three sittings mean three separate results; strength in one cannot cover a weakness in another. After each examination season CISCE publishes an Analysis of Pupil Performance for each subject, which lists the errors examiners met again and again. Read together with the specimen paper, it tells a tutor exactly which slips deserve drilling.
| Point | ICSE | AP SSC |
|---|---|---|
| Science | Physics, chemistry and biology, three 80-mark papers | Physical Science and Biological Science, two 50-mark papers of two hours |
| Maths | An 80-mark, three-hour paper; internal work adds 20 | One paper of 33 questions for 100 marks; 3 hours 15 minutes; choice only in the last section |
| English | Compulsory in Group I, 80 + 20 | 100 marks: reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, creative expression |
| Marks from the school | 20 in Groups I and II; half in Group III | The model papers cover only the written paper; check any school component with the school |
A tutor whose recent students mostly sat SSC must change gear: three science sittings instead of two, and school-assessed marks in almost every subject. So ask plainly which ICSE papers the tutor has coached students through, and how recently.
The common ICSE problem is coverage, not difficulty. A chapter finished in July is hazy by January unless it returns on a timetable. Three passes through the year work for most students:
Set texts in English and the second language go round the same cycle. Your child should read every text itself, not a summary, and practise timed answers on theme and character. Our ICSE and ISC maths guide uses a different city as its setting, but the topic plan is the same.
In both ISC years, Mathematics means a three-hour theory paper for 80 marks and a project for 20. Our ISC maths tutor page has the detail. Among the authors of this page, Ajay Vatsyayan is the one who teaches ISC maths, along with IB and IGCSE.
English stays compulsory from ICSE through ISC, and it is where capable students often drop marks without noticing. Two habits cause most of the loss: retelling the plot when the question asks for a judgement, and starting a composition without a plan. A sound weekly rhythm is a literature answer written against the clock, plus a composition, both judged against what the specimen paper demands, with the tutor's comments collected in one notebook so repeated mistakes are obvious. When the second language drags the total down, choose someone who prepares students for that language's ICSE paper rather than a general speaking coach. See our English home tutors in Guntur page.
At the end of Class 10 a Guntur ICSE student has three routes, and each changes what the tutor must do.
Whatever the route, read the eligibility rules for JEE or NEET on nta.ac.in, and for AP EAPCET on the state's CETs portal, before deciding. Our board and stream guide helps frame the choice.
| Classes | Common risk | Tutor's response |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | Written English and the second language slip behind | Weekly writing, corrected line by line; quick arithmetic kept up |
| 9 | Group II and III subjects chosen without thought | Discuss choices early; begin the three-pass habit |
| 10 | Early chapters fade; Group III work left late | Three passes; a monthly look at project progress |
| 11 (ISC) | The 15 September deadline; the jump in maths and physics | Specialists from the first week of term |
| 12 (ISC) | Board and entrance work fighting for the same weeks | One plan, with practicals and projects done early |
Because the right ICSE specialist may live in another zone, clear directions matter. A few notes from our locality pages:
The zone pages for Brindavan Gardens and Pattabhipuram and Kothapet and Old Guntur give more detail, and the Guntur home tutors page lists every locality.
In Classes 9 and 10, if a capable ICSE teacher lives near enough, home lessons in maths, physics, chemistry and biology pay off: a diagram or a long answer is simpler to fix with both people at one table. When the right specialist is in another part of the city, or in another city altogether, as can happen with an ISC elective, online lessons are the practical answer. Many families settle on a weekly pattern of a home lesson plus an online one. See online tutors for Guntur, and the Guntur maths, physics, chemistry and biology pages.
Our demo class checklist has more, and the ICSE board guide, written for another city, covers the regulations in more depth.

Yes, a Guntur family can find an ICSE tutor, though the right specialist may live in another zone or teach online from another city. Ask directly which ICSE papers the tutor has prepared students for. A weekly mix of one home lesson and one online lesson often works well.
ICSE has three separate science papers, physics, chemistry and biology, each of 80 marks with 20 practical marks from school. The Andhra Pradesh SSC sets two 50-mark papers, Physical Science and Biological Science. A Guntur student moving between them needs a tutor who plans for the different number of sittings.
The ICSE Group III subject needs early attention because half its marks, 50 out of 100, are earned through school work during the year. A Guntur student who leaves the project to February loses marks that cannot be recovered in the paper. The tutor can plan deadlines and review drafts, but the work must be the student's own.
ISC subject choices are locked after 15 September of the Class 11 registration year, and a Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11. A Guntur family should settle electives in the first weeks of term, keeping any JEE or NEET plan and the weekly workload in view.
A Guntur ISC student needs 35% in four subjects, English among them, and 75% attendance to move from Class 11 to Class 12. Practical examinations are compulsory where a subject has them. Class 11 is therefore not a gap year before the board, and steady tutoring from the start helps.
A Guntur ICSE student can continue to ISC, move to Intermediate under the Andhra Pradesh board, or switch to CBSE, and each suits different plans. Intermediate second-year sciences are 85-mark papers with a single 100-mark maths paper from IPE 2027. Read entrance eligibility rules on official sites before deciding.
An ICSE student in Guntur should revise in three passes: chapters as school teaches them, everything again before the winter break, then timed specimen papers. The Analysis of Pupil Performance from CISCE shows where candidates commonly lose marks, so the tutor can target those errors.
For Gujjanagundla, name Palakaluru Road and the Gujjanagundla bus stop, which tutors from other zones recognise. For Syamala Nagar, give both spellings, Syamala and Shyamala Nagar, and say whether to look for a gate or a building entrance. A pin location helps in both Guntur localities.
