CBSE home tutors in Guntur: NCERT taught thoroughly, with an eye on the state papers next door

Most Guntur families follow one of two systems: the Andhra Pradesh state syllabus, with SSC at Class 10 and the two Intermediate years after it, or CBSE from Class 1 to Class 12. Tutors move between the two, and so do students, which is where trouble starts. A CBSE paper rewards different habits from an SSC or Intermediate paper, and a tutor who has spent years on one should not assume the other works the same way. Below you will find the 2026-27 rules stage by stage, a side-by-side look at the state papers, a plan for a change of board, a way to keep written answers in shape once entrance work starts, and the questions worth putting to a tutor before you agree to regular classes.

Class 10 and Class 12 shapes, CBSE 2026-27 and the current Andhra Pradesh model papers
PaperCBSEAndhra Pradesh boards
Class 10 maths80 in the board paper, 20 internalSSC: one 100-mark paper, 3 hours 15 minutes including 15 to read, 33 questions
Class 10 scienceOne paper, 80 + 20SSC: Physical Science and Biological Science, two separate 50-mark papers
Class 10 EnglishA board paper plus internal marks, as the 2026-27 curriculum sets themSSC: 100 marks across reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, and creative expression
Question styleRoughly half the marks in a secondary paper test competencySSC blueprints set targets for awareness, for sensitivity and for creativity
Class 12 sciences70 theory + 30 practicalSecond-year Intermediate: 85-mark theory papers
Class 12 mathsMathematics or Applied Mathematics, 80 + 20One 100-mark second-year paper from IPE 2027

The difference that catches families out is the internal share. In CBSE, 20 marks in most Class 10 subjects and 30 in senior sciences are earned through the year, so work handed in during October counts. A tutor used to state-board papers, where the model papers show only the written examination, should be able to tell you how the CBSE internal marks are earned in your child's subject. For the state side, see our AP Board tutors in Guntur page.

Classes 6 to 8: reading, arithmetic and neat working

In the middle-school years, maths and science are the usual reasons Guntur parents start looking for a tutor. The aim at this stage is not speed or entrance foundation work. It is quick, accurate arithmetic; the first algebra done with every step written; and reading a science paragraph closely enough to answer a question in a full sentence. Short sessions two or three times a week work better than one long one. If two children in the house need help, one tutor can often take back-to-back sessions; give both classes and boards in the request.

Class 9: the common paper, and the Advanced choice

From 2026-27, maths and science in Class 9 each have one paper that all students share. In addition, a child may opt into an Advanced paper in maths, in science, in both, or skip it. An Advanced paper is short, one hour for 25 marks, and every question is higher-order, set on content beyond the shared course. Those marks never enter the aggregate, though a score of 50% or more is recorded on the marksheet.

The Advanced option is a sensible stretch for a child who already finds the common paper comfortable, and a distraction for one who does not. Ask the tutor to secure the common paper first and recommend Advanced only on evidence from school tests. The split between Basic and Standard maths is ending; the batch in Class 10 during 2026-27 is the last to sit it.

Class 10: two board examinations and the internal 20

CBSE's notification of February 2026 gives Class 10 two board sittings. Everyone writes the first. Those who pass it may return for the second and try to raise their marks in as many as three of these: science, maths, social science and the languages. Treat the first sitting as the one that counts and the second as insurance. Major subjects split 80 marks for the board paper and 20 for school assessment, and roughly half of each paper is built around cases, data, sources and everyday situations. The third language is compulsory in Classes 9 and 10, marked inside the school with no board paper.

For subject plans, our Class 10 maths preparation and Class 10 science notes guides help, and so does our page on the Class 10 maths tutor.

How the senior-secondary marks divide

  • The three sciences. Physics (code 042), Chemistry (043) and Biology (044) each give the written paper 70 and practical work 30. Thirty marks is too large a share to leave to the final weeks; the practical file and viva need steady attention.
  • Maths. Choose either Mathematics (code 041) or Applied Mathematics (241); the two cannot be combined. Each splits 80 written and 20 internal.
  • Commerce. Accountancy (code 055), Economics (030) and Business Studies (054) also split 80 written and 20 internal.

CBSE publishes a fresh sample paper each year, and that paper shows the design the board examination will follow; ask to see the tutor working from this year's copy. For the board year itself, read our notes on Class 12 physics, on organic and inorganic chemistry and on calculus and algebra, plus the Class 12 maths tutor page.

When a Guntur student changes board

Families on the Palakaluru Road side of the city, and elsewhere, move between the state syllabus and CBSE more often than they expect. A change can come at any stage, though the start of Class 11 is the natural break, and each direction has its own gap.

The usual gaps when a student changes board
MoveWhat is new for the studentWhat the tutor does first
State syllabus to CBSE, middle schoolNCERT chapter order and competency questionsMap the old textbook against the new one, chapter by chapter
SSC to CBSE Class 11Practical marks, internal work, one science paper per subjectStart the practical file habit in the first month
CBSE Class 10 to Intermediate85-mark science papers with eight-mark answers; one 100-mark second-year maths paperWork from the Intermediate board's current model papers
Telugu-version study to English-medium CBSETechnical terms in a new languageA two-column glossary for the first term

Bring the old and new textbooks to the first few sessions so the tutor can see exactly what was covered and in what order. If the decision is still open, read our board and stream guide before you commit.

Keeping board answers alive once entrance work starts

Senior CBSE students in Guntur who want engineering or medicine usually prepare for the NTA's JEE or NEET, and some also look at AP EAPCET, the Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test on the state's portal, cets.apsche.ap.gov.in. Because the national tests lean on NCERT, the content largely overlaps with the board course. Writing is where the gap opens: after months of objective practice, a student can lose the habit of a complete board answer with steps, units and diagrams. Keep one written answer in every week's plan and turn fully to sample papers before the board. See JEE and NEET home tutors in Guntur.

How CBSE tutors reach six Guntur localities

What to send a CBSE tutor before the demo
LocalityUseful detail
Vidya NagarBuilding name, block and flat number; tell the watchman a tutor is expected
Navabharath NagarBoth spellings, Navabharath and Navbharat, and the nearest colony such as SVN Colony
Syamala NagarWhether the tutor should look for a gate or a building entrance
AT AgraharamThe nearer of NGO Colony and APHB Colony as a reference
SangadiguntaEtukuru Road as the main road, and which side of Kothapet you are on
Old GunturA pin location and a shop or junction, since house numbers can be hard to spot

Other parts of the city have their own zone pages, among them Brodipet and Arundelpet and Lakshmipuram and Koritepadu; the Guntur home tutors page lists every locality.

A monthly check any parent can do

A parent can judge progress without knowing the syllabus. Pick one evening a month and turn the pages of the tuition notebook. Each session should have a date and some work under it. Each week should include a question built on a case or a table of data. Answers should show their working, not just a final figure. From Class 9 onwards, also find out how far the internal or practical tasks have got. Finally, ask your child to name the chapter that feels shakiest. If the answer is the same two months running and the tutor has no plan for it, tell us and we will suggest another match.

Home or online for CBSE in Guntur?

Younger children, and Class 9 and 10 students in maths and science, gain most from a tutor sitting beside them, because their errors hide inside written steps. Senior students often do well on a mixed week: physics and maths in person, while chemistry recall, a sample-paper review or a quick doubt at night happens on screen. If the right specialist for a senior subject lives across the city, go online; see online tutors for Guntur. Subject by subject, our Guntur maths, science, physics, chemistry, biology and English pages take each subject further.

What to ask a CBSE tutor in the demo class

  1. Recently, which CBSE classes and subjects have you taught, and have you prepared students for the state papers too?
  2. What share of this year's sample paper is competency-focused, and how will you practise it?
  3. How will you support the internal or practical work without doing it for my child?
  4. For Class 9: would you advise an Advanced paper for my child, and on what evidence?
  5. If my child is changing board, which chapters will you check first?

Our demo class checklist has more, and the CBSE board guide, written for another city, goes into the curriculum in detail.

CBSE Home Tutor in Guntur (Classes 6–12): common questions

What do CBSE home tutors in Guntur charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each CBSE tutor in Guntur sets their own fee, and it is shown before the demo so you can compare.

How do I find a CBSE home tutor in Guntur through NXTutors?

Send the class, subjects, your Guntur locality with a landmark and the free hours, and we reply with two or three matched CBSE tutors. Every fee is visible before the first class, which is a free demo. If the match stops working later, switching tutor is free.

How is a CBSE Class 10 science paper different from the AP SSC science papers?

CBSE sets one Class 10 science paper of 80 marks with 20 internal, while the Andhra Pradesh SSC splits science into Physical Science and Biological Science, two separate 50-mark papers. A Guntur tutor who teaches both should plan the internal marks for CBSE and two separate sittings for SSC.

Should a Guntur Class 9 student take the CBSE Advanced paper in maths or science?

A Guntur Class 9 student should take the Advanced paper only if the common paper already feels comfortable. Each Advanced paper is one hour for 25 marks, entirely higher-order, and stays out of the aggregate, though 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. Let school test results guide the choice.

What happens if a Guntur student misses marks in the first CBSE Class 10 board exam?

A Guntur student who passes the first CBSE Class 10 board examination may sit the second to improve up to three subjects from science, maths, social science and the languages. The first sitting is compulsory for everyone, so plan for it as the main examination and treat the second as insurance.

How are marks split in CBSE Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology?

CBSE Class 12 physics, chemistry and biology each give 70 marks to the written paper and 30 to practical work under the 2026-27 curriculum. For a Guntur student, thirty practical marks are too many to leave to the last weeks, so the file and viva preparation should run all year.

What should a Guntur family do when a child moves from the state syllabus to CBSE?

When a Guntur child moves from the state syllabus to CBSE, bring the old and new textbooks to the first sessions so the tutor can map the chapters. Start competency-style questions and, from Class 11, the practical file habit early. A two-column glossary helps a child coming from Telugu-version study.

Can CBSE Class 12 tuition in Guntur cover JEE or NEET as well?

Yes, CBSE Class 12 tuition in Guntur can cover JEE or NEET, because the national tests lean on the NCERT content the board uses. The risk is losing the habit of full written answers after months of objective practice. Keep one written board answer in every week and switch to sample papers before the board.

Which details help a CBSE tutor find a home in Vidya Nagar or Sangadigunta?

For Vidya Nagar, where much of the housing is in apartment buildings, send the building name, block and flat number and tell the watchman. For Sangadigunta, name Etukuru Road and the side of Kothapet you live on. A pin location helps in both Guntur localities.

Is online CBSE tuition suitable for a Guntur student in Class 11 or 12?

Online CBSE tuition suits many Guntur students in Class 11 and 12, especially for chemistry recall, sample-paper reviews and late doubts. Physics and maths usually go better with home sessions. If the right senior-subject specialist lives across the city or elsewhere, a mixed week of home and online classes works well.
