Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

An ICSE family in Nanded is studying under a council whose papers look quite different from the SSC papers many local tutors know. Answers are longer, English carries weight in every subject, and science is three separate papers rather than one. Finding a tutor who has taught that style recently matters more than finding the nearest one. This guide covers the CISCE rules a tutor should know, a sensible way to revise a wide syllabus, the ISC choices in Classes 11 and 12, the decision after Class 10, and how tutors reach homes north and south of the river.
The State Board runs the SSC and HSC across Maharashtra, with Nanded under its Latur division, and many local tutors teach mainly those papers. ICSE and ISC students sit papers set by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, which reward full written explanation and exact use of terms. A tutor strong in SSC maths may still be unused to ICSE's commercial arithmetic or to marking a long biology answer the council's way.
So ask early, and ask plainly: which ICSE or ISC classes have you taught in the last two years, and which council documents do you work from? The answer you want mentions the specimen papers and the council's Analysis of Pupil Performance, which explains where candidates lost marks. If the right tutor does not live near you, an online specialist for one subject is often a better choice than a nearby tutor who knows only the State Board.
| Group | Subjects | Written : internal |
|---|---|---|
| Group I (no choice) | English; one further language; the combined History, Civics & Geography paper | 80 : 20 |
| Group II (the student picks two or three) | Mathematics and Science for most students, with Economics, Commercial Studies, Environmental Science and other languages also on the list | 80 : 20 |
| Group III (the student picks one) | A practical or applied course, for example Computer Applications, Art or Physical Education, among others | 50 : 50 |
Half of the Group III marks come from internal work spread across the year. A student who lets that work pile up until the last term throws away marks that steady effort would have secured. A good tutor asks to see the project list in the first month.
Mathematics is one written paper of 80 marks. The other 20 come from two or more assignments, which the school's teacher and an external examiner both assess. Topics range widely: commercial arithmetic such as banking and shares sits beside algebra, trigonometry, geometry and statistics. Examiners want working at every stage; a correct answer with missing steps does not earn full marks.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology are examined separately, 80 marks each in writing, with 20 more from practical work in school. A good mark in chemistry does not rescue a weak biology paper. Settle at the start whether a single tutor will teach all three sciences, or whether the weakest one goes to a specialist, perhaps online. Our physics, chemistry and biology pages for Nanded go subject by subject.
Because every ICSE answer is written in English and many are long, the language is examined indirectly in history, biology and even mathematics word problems. In Nanded, where many homes speak Marathi, Urdu or Hindi, a child can understand a concept fully and still lose marks on how it is expressed. Three habits help. Keep a subject glossary with exact terms. Write one full answer in each session and have it marked for both content and clarity. Read the question aloud before answering, so instruction words such as "explain", "state" and "give reasons" are not mixed up. The English home tutor in Nanded page covers English as a subject.
Chapters from Class 9 come back in the Class 10 papers, so revision cannot wait for the final term. Ask the tutor to keep a rotation: every few weeks, one session returns to an older chapter in each subject, so nothing goes cold. Timed writing should start in Class 9, because speed in long answers grows slowly. A dated list of projects and assignments, checked at the start of each month, keeps the internal marks safe. A typical session then has three parts: the student's own attempts marked line by line, one new topic taught, and one complete answer written against the clock.
| Rule | What the regulations say | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Load | English is compulsory; electives number three to five, and the total cannot pass six | Pick electives with the entrance plan in mind |
| Changing subjects | Not allowed after a set date in the Class 11 registration year; a Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11 | Decide in the first weeks, not after the first test |
| Moving to Class 12 | 35% needed in four subjects, English among them, and 75% attendance | Watch the weakest elective from term one |
| Practical work | Compulsory in every subject that has it; Engineering Science and Physics are not allowed together | Keep practical files current all year |
| Passing | Grades 1 to 9; four subjects including English, plus SUPW and Community Service | Do not leave the non-exam requirements to the end |
In ISC Mathematics, both years combine a theory paper worth 80 with a project worth 20. Read the ISC maths tutor page and the guide to ICSE and ISC maths. An ISC student preparing for entrance exams should also read JEE home tutor in Nanded or NEET home tutor in Nanded, since ISC and NCERT chapter orders differ and need mapping in the first weeks of Class 11.
| Stage | What counts | Tutor's focus |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 6 to 8 | School tests only | Full sentences in English, all maths steps on paper, exact science words |
| Class 9 | The first half of the two-year ICSE course | A revision rotation from the first term, and weekly diagram practice |
| Class 10 | Council papers and internal marks | Specimen papers under time, marked against the council's analysis |
| Class 11 | Electives fixed; promotion rules apply | Careful subject choice and an early start on the harder ISC chapters |
| Class 12 | ISC papers with practical and project work | Depth in each elective and no missed deadline |
Some Nanded ICSE students continue to ISC; others join junior college for the HSC, and a few move to CBSE. Each route has a cost. Staying with ISC keeps the writing style the student knows. Moving to the HSC brings new subject codes, two compulsory subjects for every student, codes 30 and 31, and textbooks in a different order. Moving to CBSE means NCERT books and case-based questions. Whatever the choice, plan a short bridging term with the tutor before the new year starts, rather than discovering the gaps in the first unit test. Our Maharashtra Board home tutor in Nanded and CBSE home tutor in Nanded pages describe the other two routes.
| Locality | What to know | What to send |
|---|---|---|
| Waghala | In New Nanded, south of the Godavari; ask whether the tutor knows the council's specimen papers | Colony, building and flat, and whether the tutor must cross the river |
| Vishnupuri | On the Nanded to Latur highway; some families here are new to the city and changing boards | Old syllabus and new school's board, plus a map pin |
| Ashtvinayak Nagar | A newer colony in the north with fewer tutors inside it; a home and online mix works | Both spellings and the building name |
| Kautha | Children often get home late by school bus, so set a later start | Old Kautha or Navin Kautha, and the building |
| Dhanegaon | New colonies on the southern side, hard to find on phone maps | Colony, house number, landmark and pin |
| Pawdewadi | North-western edge; fewer tutors nearby, so fix days that suit both sides | Pawdewadi and Pawadewadi, with the colony |
The New Nanded and Waghala and Taroda and North-West Nanded zone pages say more, and the Nanded home tuition guide covers the whole city.
For younger ICSE children and for maths, a tutor at home is usually worth the travel. For one science, an ISC elective or English writing practice, an online specialist can be the stronger option, especially when the nearest ICSE-experienced tutor lives on the other side of the river. Long answers can be photographed and marked on screen. See online tuition in Nanded for the practical set-up.

A tutor who teaches mainly State Board papers may not know how the council marks ICSE answers. Ask which ICSE or ISC classes the tutor taught recently and whether they use the specimen papers and the council's Analysis of Pupil Performance. If the right tutor lives far away, an online specialist can fill the gap.
Half of the Group III subject is internal work, since it is marked 50 written and 50 internal. Groups I and II are marked 80 written and 20 internal. A Nanded tutor should ask for the project list in the first month, because internal work left to the last term loses easy marks.
One tutor can sometimes teach all three, but check that before you decide. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate 80-mark papers, each with 20 practical marks, and strength in one does not help the other two. In Nanded, a family may use one home tutor for two sciences and an online specialist for the weakest one.
A child writes better ICSE answers by keeping a subject glossary and writing one full answer every session for marking. The tutor should mark content and English separately, and teach the difference between instruction words such as explain, state and give reasons. Reading each question aloud first prevents many careless errors.
ISC subject choices become fixed after a date set in the regulations during the Class 11 registration year. After that, subjects cannot be changed, and a Class 12 subject must have been studied in Class 11. A Nanded family should settle electives in the first weeks with the entrance plan in mind.
A Nanded ISC student needs 35% in four subjects, including English, and 75% attendance to be promoted to Class 12. Practical work is compulsory in every subject that has it. A tutor should watch the weakest elective from the first term rather than wait for the annual exam.
It depends on the student, but each move needs a bridging plan. Staying with ISC keeps a familiar writing style; the HSC brings new subject codes and two compulsory subjects, 30 and 31; CBSE brings NCERT and case-based questions. Plan a short bridging term with the tutor before the new year starts.
Check whether the tutor has taught ICSE or ISC recently and uses the council's specimen papers and analysis. Hand over one long answer your child wrote and see whether content and English are marked separately. For maths, every step should be required, and the tutor should ask about projects without prompting.
