Home Tuition in Mumbai's Western Suburbs: Bandra to Dahisar
The western suburbs run north from the Mithi River to Dahisar in a long band between the sea and the national park, with the Western line down the middle and the Western Express Highway alongside. Most families live in cooperative society buildings or newer towers with a watchman or gate desk, and most tutors arrive by suburban train or metro and finish with an auto or a short walk. Metro Lines 1, 2A and 7 now cross or follow the band, widening the pool of tutors who can reach you.
This guide covers five zones from south to north: Bandra, Khar and Santacruz; Vile Parle and Juhu; Andheri and Jogeshwari; Goregaon and Malad; and Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar. For each locality it notes the tutor's station, the gate routine and the easiest class times.
Which lines serve each zone?
| Zone | Suburban stations | Metro |
|---|---|---|
| Bandra, Khar and Santacruz | Bandra, Khar Road, Santacruz (Western and Harbour) | Line 3: Bandra Colony, Bandra Kurla Complex, Santacruz |
| Vile Parle and Juhu | Vile Parle (Western and Harbour) | Line 1 and Line 2A at D N Nagar, for the Juhu side |
| Andheri and Jogeshwari | Andheri, Jogeshwari (Western and Harbour) | Line 1, Line 2A, Line 7, Line 3 at Marol Naka, MIDC and SEEPZ |
| Goregaon and Malad | Ram Mandir, Goregaon (Western and Harbour), Malad (Western) | Line 2A on Link Road, Line 7 on the highway |
| Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar | Kandivali, Borivali, Dahisar (Western) | Line 2A, Line 7, Line 9 from Dahisar East |
Bandra, Khar and Santacruz
The railway splits Bandra into West and East, and Bandra station, a Grade-I heritage structure, serves the Western and Harbour lines. Khar grew after Khar Road station opened on 1 July 1924. The underground Line 3 opened from Aarey JVLR to Bandra Kurla Complex on 5 October 2024, with stations at Santacruz, Bandra Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex.
- Bandra West: village enclaves such as Ranwar, low-rise cooperative buildings and newer towers. In the enclaves the tutor walks to the door; taller buildings log visitors. Hill Road and Linking Road fill with shoppers in the evening, so start a little earlier.
- Bandra East: Kherwadi, the Government Colony and Kalanagar beside the business district. Office traffic peaks at the start and end of the working day, so late-afternoon and weekend slots are easier.
- Khar: Khar Danda keeps its village character, while Khar West has numbered roads of apartment buildings. Khar Road station is the meeting point; parking is limited, so tutors often come by train.
- Santacruz West and Santacruz East: older low-rise societies being rebuilt as towers in the west; Kalina, Vakola and Prabhat Colony in the east, where the Line 3 station sits on the highway at Vakola. Register the tutor at newer towers, and time evening classes after the rush on Linking Road and the highway.
Vile Parle and Juhu
Vile Parle station, opened in 1906, serves the Western and Harbour lines. Juhu has no station of its own, so tutors come by train to Santacruz, Vile Parle or Andheri, or by metro to D N Nagar, where Line 2A meets Line 1.
- Vile Parle West: apartment buildings and cooperative societies, part of the JVPD Scheme, and a reputation as an education centre, so board-subject tutors live nearby. The road by the station gets crowded around college hours.
- Vile Parle East: older societies and mid-rise buildings between the railway and the highway. Most lanes are walkable from the station; parking inside is tight, so train and auto is simpler.
- Juhu: apartment buildings and standalone homes between the beach and the highway. Standalone homes mean doorstep entry. Roads towards the beach fill on weekend evenings, so weekday or morning classes are easier.
Andheri and Jogeshwari
Line 1 opened on 8 June 2014 between Versova and Ghatkopar, and nine of its twelve stations are in Andheri. Andheri station is the busiest on the Western Railway network and connects to Line 1 by skywalk. Line 2A reached Andheri West on 19 January 2023, and Line 6 from Lokhandwala towards Vikhroli is under construction.
- Andheri West: Four Bungalows and D N Nagar, with towers and older low-rise buildings. Tutors often arrive by metro and walk or take an auto; parking is tight.
- Versova: Seven Bungalows and Yari Road by the sea. Versova station is Line 1's western end; Yari Road lies further north, so check the last leg when booking.
- Lokhandwala: residential towers around a busy market. Use D N Nagar on Line 1 or Andheri West and Lower Oshiwara on Line 2A; register the tutor as a regular visitor, and allow extra time for a late class.
- Andheri East: J B Nagar, Chakala, Marol and Sahar, with Line 1 along the Andheri-Kurla Road and Line 3 at Marol Naka, MIDC and SEEPZ. Plan around office traffic at the start and end of the working day.
- Jogeshwari West: Oshiwara and Behram Baug, with Line 2A stations at Oshiwara and Lower Oshiwara. Older buildings have a watchman; newer towers on Link Road register visitors.
- Jogeshwari East: older colonies and new towers along the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road, with Line 7 stations at Jogeshwari (East) and Mogra. The link road is heavy at peak hours, so choose off-peak or online slots.
Goregaon and Malad
The Harbour line reached Goregaon on 29 March 2018, and Ram Mandir station opened on 22 December 2016. Line 2A's second phase, opened on 19 January 2023, added stations including Malad West, Lower Malad, Bangur Nagar and Goregaon West along Link Road, while Line 7 serves Kurar and Dindoshi in Malad East.
- Goregaon West: Motilal Nagar, Jawahar Nagar and Unnat Nagar, with older blocks being redeveloped and towers towards Link Road. Many societies ask visitors to sign in.
- Bangur Nagar: a planned area developed in the mid-1970s, with more than twenty cooperative societies and its own Line 2A station. Street parking is limited.
- Goregaon East: apartment complexes and gated societies towards Aarey and Film City, with Line 7 at Aarey and Goregaon East. Register the tutor at the gate or on the visitor app.
- Malad West: Orlem, Sunder Nagar and the Marve Road side, from older buildings near the station to towers on Link Road. Start evening sessions a little after the rush, or move online on heavy days.
- Malad East: Kurar Village, Dindoshi and Appa Pada. Inner lanes are narrow, so give clear directions for the first visit.
Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar
Borivali station is the busiest on the Western suburban line and a terminus for slow, semi-fast and fast trains. Line 2A's first phase opened on 2 April 2022 along New Link Road, the Charkop depot serves Lines 2A and 7, and Line 9 from Dahisar East to Kashigaon was inaugurated on 7 April 2026.
- Kandivali West: societies from older blocks to Link Road towers, with Kandivli West and Dahanukarwadi stations on Line 2A. Link Road is busy at school closing time, so start a little after it.
- Charkop: numbered housing-board sectors with row houses and small society buildings. Share the sector, plot number and a landmark; row houses mean doorstep entry.
- Mahavir Nagar: high-rise towers and established societies near Kandivli West station. Add the tutor to the visitor list before the first session.
- Kandivali East and Thakur Village: gated societies east of the highway, with Line 7 at Poisar and Akurli. Expect gate and sometimes lobby checks; visitor parking is limited.
- Borivali West: IC Colony, Vazira, Eksar and Shimpoli, with Line 2A at Eksar, Borivali West, Shimpoli and Mandapeshwar. A slot just after the evening peak keeps time.
- Borivali East: towers and large complexes up to the national park, with Line 7 at Rashtriya Udyan, Devipada and Magathane. Large complexes use visitor apps.
- Dahisar West and Dahisar East: older mid-rise societies in the west, with Kandarpada on Line 2A; newer complexes in the east around the Dahisar East interchange of Lines 2A, 7 and 9. Send the tutor's details to the gate in advance.
When is a weekday class easiest to keep?
- Just after school, before office traffic builds on Link Road, the highway and the station roads.
- After the evening rush, if the tutor comes by metro to a stop close to your home.
- Weekend mornings in Juhu, Bandra and Lokhandwala, where evenings bring shoppers and visitors.

Frequently asked questions
How do tutors reach Juhu without a railway station?
Most come by suburban train to Santacruz, Vile Parle or Andheri and take an auto for the last stretch, or ride the metro to D N Nagar or Andheri West. Standalone homes mean the tutor comes straight to the door, while apartment buildings ask for the tutor's name at the gate.
Which metro lines help tutors in Andheri?
Line 1 runs from Versova through Andheri to Ghatkopar, Line 2A runs north from Andheri West to Dahisar, Line 7 runs along the highway from Gundavali, and Line 3 serves Marol Naka, MIDC and SEEPZ. Line 6 from Lokhandwala towards Vikhroli is still under construction.
Is Borivali easy for home tutors to reach?
Yes. Borivali station is the busiest on the Western suburban line and a terminus for many slow and fast trains, and Line 2A serves the west side while Line 7 serves the east. A tutor can usually walk or take a short auto from the station or metro.
Do gated townships in Kandivali East need tutor registration?
Usually, yes. In Thakur Village and other large townships the tutor is checked at the main gate and sometimes again at the lobby. Send the tutor's name and flat number to security before the free demo class, so later weekly visits start without a wait.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which you see before the free demo.
